This was an interesting story that I wanted to like far more than I did. There were some interesting plot points and detours in Wash's story but overall it was an eh ready for me. The language is amazing and beautiful. It made up for the meandering tendency of the story and kept me engaged far longer than the actual story did. #lmpbc @Schlinkles @bookandcat

Schlinkles @TsundokuAleax I completely agree with all of that! 2w
TsundokuAleax @bookandcat @Schlinkles sorry this one took me so long. The adjustment to the next job was much more difficult than I anticipated. On the plus side, I do think I am finding my rhythm with life and should be doing better from here on out 2w

We just closed the Young Acting Company's production of this show. It was an original edit done by our director and it was amazing. These kids were able to do Shakespeare better than some adults I have seen. I am so proud of them all for the work they did to get here. Also, we actually had the little ones on stage as goats. I never want to see this done without that again. It was brilliant and one of my favorite scenes.

This was a fun quick read that helped fill in some of what happened in A Princess in Theory. It was great to get the two time frames of the romance filled in. It is done in such a way that you don't really find out what exactly happened the first time till near the end. Also happy that this was my first f/f romance. #romantsy

Poston does an amazing job of world building and bringing the reader along for the ride. I fell in love with the space babies and surprised at how much more attached to the boys I was. Since the chapters are told from each of their perspectives, you get a good look into their full interior lives. Di is absolutely precious and goes on the most amazing journey over the course of the book. Robb and Jax are just as precious. #lmpbc

A coworker told me that I would love this show and boy was he right. It had me from the first moments as it embraced the music and culture of Emilio and Gloria full force. It was amazing to hear and see what I grew up with on stage. I know those people and the moments shown on stage. I have lived them many times over the years. Representation matters and this show embraces that in a way that brought tears to my eyes. (Cont in comment)

TsundokuAleax And that couch! It is such a little thing but an important visual. The way the show weaves and transforms the music from Gloria's song catalog is amazing. I am so glad I was able to see it before the tour closes. 2mo

This was a suggestion that I threw into my library digital holds and promptly forgot because I was so far down the list. The book is about a hockey town and its dream team as they go into the end of an amazing season. This place felt like the natural conclusion of what made me uncomfortable with the sports focus of the region where I grew up. The town is a dying one and it holds onto its love of a sport like a religion. (Cont in comments)

TsundokuAleax And worshiped it is, to the point of zealotry. Such worship makes people do strange things to maintain the sanctity of the sport. Midway through the book is an event that defines everyone. How it is handled is so different that the topic normally is and I kinda love this choice. To show the far reaching damage and how people handle it, for better or worse. To see who falls and who becomes the best and most unexpected version of themselves. (Cont) 3mo
TsundokuAleax I surprised by which characters I was rooting for by the end. This book is beautifully and hauntingly written book that I will never read again. 3mo

I am a sucker for P&P and any retellings based on it. This one takes place in a minority neighborhood in Brooklyn. Zuri is a Haitian-Dominican girl from the hood with a big family. When Darius and his bougie family move in across the street, everything starts to change. Zuri is so judgemental but I get why and where this defense comes from. To see them dance around each other and how their relationship stutters was beautiful. (Cont in comments)

TsundokuAleax Zuri has walls and trust issues with outsiders. Darius is such a perfect version of Darcy with how much of himself he hides from the world. Everytime he lets Zuri see him, he throws up another front.
3mo
TsundokuAleax It was wonderful to see so much of the Brooklyn I grew up in in this book. I also love how much this book referenced the culture of these neighborhoods and the people who live there. The inclusion of Santeria was a special one to see since it is not talked about often. 3mo

Man, this was good pay off. Seeing what happens after they ride off into the sunset and how maybe it was not all it was cracked up to be. Galen and Meg are trying to manage their new duties as Concorts while Theo is trying to rebuild what was damaged while he was gone. There is palace intrigue and Meg is in the crosshairs. Seeing how they manage and deal with the fallout was great. It was even better to see how they build to a real HEA.

After how things ended in the novella, you knew things were not over. Roberts builds a good suspense while also building the relationship between these characters. Galen and Theo are portrayed so well as two people who know each others inside and out. Having Meg in the mix as the wild card was fun. Seeing all of them manage the situation and build their relationship was fascinating.

Since for some reason only the second book in this series is in here. This novella starts the whole story and boy does it go off with a bang. The story is told from all three characters pov. This is the second book in the series, which should definitely be read in order even though they are separate characters. Buck is such a fascinating person whom you were introduced to in the last book. The story is told completely from his point of view. It was a first for me to have a m/f romance told completely from the male's pov but it worked perfectly. (Cont in comments)

TsundokuAleax He is such a sweetheart who just keeps ending up in bad situations despite his best efforts. Seeing him earnestly try so hard and yet be constantly set back was heartfelt and kinda sad to watch. Seeing the big lug go through such a great journey was hilarious as Hunting always does and also touching. 3mo

I'm also horrible and need to finish the TJR book that was @schkinkles pick (it is so so good but I haven't had much time in the past month or so to sit with a pen and read it as most of my reading has been on the go, plus I had 20-30 library books that were due back eek). This was a fascinating read with a wonderful inversion. In this alternate world, magic exists but is largely the domain of women with a few men with some talent for it. Weekes is trying to go to school to practice this form of science and eventually go into the military for it as well. Seeing a man deal with the microaggressions and hardships that women still have to deal with in male dominated fields, was fascinating.

Circe was a surprise for me. It was a read recommended by a friend and I am so glad that I read it. Circe is the daughter of a nymph and Titan. She never quite fits in in the halls of the gods but she does not fit in with the humans she finds so fascinating. Circe eventually finds her gift of magic but the consequences of its use earn her harsh punishment. (Continued in comments)

TsundokuAleax Seeing how her story touches so many others of Greek mythology was a nice game of name checking. It was also beautiful to see all these characters humanized so thoroughly. Circe's story is one of endurance. It is her gift and curse. The end of the story is one that many will not like but I found fitting and so beautiful. 4mo

Lucas and Molly sure did bring a lot of their own baggage to the table in this one. Molly is trying to break out of the box that her brother and boss have put her in. Lucas is going a bit stir crazy and is blackmailed into Molly's backup. These two have so much chemistry. Molly deals with the chronicness of an old injury. Seeing it so honestly and accurately described was amazing. Molly will always hold a special place for me for that reason.

Man, I understand this on such a deeply personal level. It can be hard to have lingering pain from an injury. To have an invisible condition that doctors do not really recognize and can be hard to explain. You have good days and then the not so good ones. You get really good at hiding it. Then there is also explaining it to new people when it flares up.

Symposium | By Plato

I have not been as active here in recent months due to a three month run of working on shows. It kept me busy but also meant I was not able to scroll through here as much as I love to. Hopefully I can balance things a bit better in the coming year, and not keep myself so busy. Also, a friend asked me to be in the adaptation of this as Diotima. It is gonna be a lot but I am excited to dig into this script.

PippoRanito Diotima is awesome for her role in holding back the plague in Athens! Good luck in your role! 😁 I hope you and your group will be successful! 5mo
TsundokuAleax @PippoRanito oh, can you give me more info on this? My director had trouble finding any other reference to her in ancient texts. Also, I am loving her part in the script. It is gonna be a bear to memorialize though. 5mo
PippoRanito In the symposium, Socrates says that he learned what "love" is from Diotima. And that Diotima, in urging the citizens of Athens to do some sacrifices, delayed the onset of the plague. ? Let me quote the full passage. 5mo
PippoRanito "And now I shall let you alone, and proceed with the discourse upon Love which I heard one day from a Mantinean woman named Diotima: in this subject she was skilled, and in many others too; for once, by bidding the Athenians offer sacrifices ten years before the plague, she procured them so much delay in the advent of the sickness. Well, I also had my lesson from her in love-matters. . ." 5mo
TsundokuAleax Ah, okay. I forgot that part. I read through the script and have been focusing on my lines since. I thought maybe there was another reference to her outside this. Thank you for reminding me. 5mo
