Stephen King is a masterful storyteller. Here he tells the story of an institute that kidnaps and exploits children for their particular unique abilities. I thought it was terrific and utterly absorbing.

3.5 ⭐

King was one of the authors who really got me into reading when I was young. Probably too young for his books! As an adult, I haven't much his newer books. This was a #newyearwhodis recommendation from @TheLibrarian and I'm definitely glad I read it. Some parts were a little slow and the writing was often verbose, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I know a few were a little put off when I tied Mystery, Thriller, and Horror all to one category, but to many they are interchangeable.

To certain Authors like Stephen, he can put it all in one book, like his current best seller and #LitsyAwards #Winner

TrishB They are definitely not the same, but glad King won. 4w
LibrarianRyan @TrishB No they are not, but they do frequently cross over. 4w

Thank you for the letters @Crazeedi and @LapReader! The stamps on both are wonderful. I see new skill coming about how to remove stamps (so I can put them in my reading journal. Please disregard any dog hair that may accompany your return letters 🐶

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ❤️❤️❤️ 4w
Crazeedi What a great idea! I should have started a journal listing the notes and cards I've received since litsylove started! Dang! The stamps would be perfect. I think I've read you can steam them off with an iron maybe, somehow? Good luck! 4w
jb72 @Crazeedi Maybe you can start one now? I think the old (lick) stamps you could use steam. The new ones are self adhesive so it says to remove with warm water by soaking. 4w

Crazeedi @jb72 oh yes you are absolutely correct, I wasn't thinking, duh, I'm old!! Lol I think I'm going to start a journal and list cards, maybe find something besides plastic shoe boxes that my letters are in right now! Organized by who sent and when would be helpful to remember what we've talked about too. Let me know how you do! 4w
jb72 @Crazeedi I was thinking of taking a nice shoe box and covering it with pretty paper where I can save all my cards. This way throughout the year I can read them for some positive energy. Plus any beautiful artwork can later be used in my journal. 4w

Holy cow, that was good. I only wish I would have read it when it first came out so I could have added my vote in the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards. Stephen King now and forever knows how to weave an amazing story, and this will go down as a favorite.

Reading means a lot to me. It involves entertainment and learning. I read a lot of nonfiction, but I also feel fiction teaches us a lot as well. I‘ve always had a love of books, but it was in my late teens I started to read more voraciously.
Unfortunately I went for a period of time with little to no reading in my 20s. By mid 30s I was back to buying and reading books.
Reading is adventurous and fun and informative.

ljuliel Thanks for answering. It‘s interesting that some of you stepped back from reading for a period of time , but you all came back. 😊 1mo
jb72 @ljuliel At that time in my life I didn‘t have many books to read and little access to a library. I was disappointed, but not much I could do. I did get my hands on the Shannara Trilogy which I loved. 1mo
ljuliel I hope you‘re in a place now where lots of books are accessible to you. 😊📖📖📖 1mo

This is turning out to be a fantastic #bookhaul weekend! Got my very own brand new copy of The Institute at Lark & Owl Booksellers (Georgetown, TX) this afternoon with part of a gift certificate that I received for Christmas. I have been curious about this one since its release last fall and am so excited I will finally get to read it!

Soubhiville That‘s a cute little bookstore isn‘t it? I went in Dec. 1mo
alysonwrites @Soubhiville Yes, it‘s so gorgeous and charming! This is my second visit—first time my BFF and I went was last April for Independent Bookstore Day, and we got to meet and talk with some of the women co-owners, which was cool. I am planning to use the rest of my gift certificate to order some books for our theme reads. 😊 1mo

This one was really good hard to put down. The story was suspenseful and even though it‘s obviously fiction, I feel like this type of thing could totally happen. Kids kidnapped and victims of unauthorized experiments. I did a large portion on audio and Santino Fontana was awesome.

I love King as an author and this book did not disappoint! It was gripping from the start where you read about a man who starts a life in a very small town. It then parallels to the lives of the children who reside in “The Institute.” Of course, very well written and captivating. I finished it in five days which is very fast for me, especially for a mighty Stephen King novel!

I thought I might drop in #TheMistersReviews” every once in awhile. He‘s become interested in books in the past couple of years , preferred platform being audio, as he has a long drive to work each day .
He also is a huge Stephen King fan, which is very surprising. If you knew him, you‘d know why.
He very much enjoyed the above book , plus the narrator. Two Thumbs Up.
I quizzed him on percentage of DNF books he has : 1% . 😮

Stay tuned ...

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis‘s parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there‘s no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents—telekinesis and telepathy.

The novel opened with Tim Jamieson, an ex-police officer whose life was about to change when he decided to give up his flight seat to a federal officer. Instead of New York, he ended up in DuPray as a night-knocker. We then meet Luke & his other friends at the Institute where they were abused & tortured for reasons only known to the staff.

Dark, disturbing & thought-provoking!👍🏼My first King! Full review on https://bit.ly/2DD5qLs

The genius of horror is back and as strong as ever! While this book was more disturbing than scary, I enjoyed the usual King markers such as the well developed characters and the occasional veiled reference to his other stories. I enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend it.
