This book was a little disturbing with all the man eating giants and even the bfg was rather creepy. It's main redeeming factor was the the man doing the audio sounded a bit like Hagrid when he did the bfg's voice.

This is a cute and whimsical story, well-suited for imaginative middle graders. I love Roald Dahl's creative wording in the BFG's speech. It adds both a layer of complexity and a layer of entertainment to the tale. It was an enjoyable and quick read.

The BFG is a fantasy novel that has been one of my favorite books since my childhood. In this novel written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake, an orphan named Sophie meets a Big Friendly Giant (BFG) and learns all about the life of giants And their crazy vocabulary. This book won Germany‘s only state-funded literacy award, the “Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis”.
#UCFLAE3414F19

Mwinship This book would be great for LC using The BFG educator‘s guide: roalddahl.com/docs/BFG_EducatorsGuide_1478879891.pdf
It aligns with ESOL strategy 10 about doing Think-Pair-Share in LC and UDL guideline 3.2 about establishing the relationships between characters in the novel during LC.

Book #79: The BFG is a children's book about a little girl who discovers a Big Friendly Giant (AKA the BFG). Along with the BFG, there are other giants who are not so friendly, well, because they eat people. The plot of the story is that the little girl convinces the BFG to take the bad giants down. I found this to be a rather gruesome story for a child...

Sophie was ‘abducted‘ by a friendly giant called The BFG and taken to the land of giants where there‘re other bloodthirsty giants who hunt and eat #human beans (beings). Sophie and the BFG formed a close friendship and embarked on a mission to stop the giants from eating people. A great story that touches on loneliness and relationship. Book and movie are good.

Okay guys, we‘ve got two days left of week one for #MayMadness. What‘s left to read in your #BookToMovie stack?

I still have these 22 books (although that while middle section would be rereads), and 3 audiobooks left. I‘m sure I can finish off the audiobooks while I‘m cleaning, bullet joirnalling etc, but I‘ll probably only get 2-3 physical books done. It‘s so hard to choose!

#Readathon #Challenge @Clwojick @TheReadingMermaid @RadicalReader

julesG I'm glad I did not put together a stack of books. I committed to the one re-read I had wanted to do and am proud that I managed to finish it already. 9mo
Clwojick @julesG yeah! I knew I wasn‘t going to get to all of them, but I wanted selection, and I thought putting them front and centre in the living room would give me more incentive to read them. It has been a long time since I've read a Road Dahl book. I'm pretty sure I've read all of them, but I have decided to re-read them as an adult as while I know some of them well via the films, it's been some time since I read the source material, and the books are better than the films.
Absolutely love Roald Dahl's books :)

I absolutely loved this book. I remember being in 3rd grade and had this book read to us every Friday. I loved the characterization of the giant and how he was Big and Friendly which is out of the norm. It was a spin from what kids usually think of Giants which I remembered loving. Whenever the reading time was over I was so upset because I wanted more!

How I wish I had read this book when I was younger! As a person who has had speech issues since childhood, the parts involving the giant defending his speech really moved me.

The story itself is charming, as are the characters of Sophie and the BFG. Especially liked the breakfast and fizzy drink scenes.

An absolutely charming story that I'm sure I will continue to think upon in my life and possiblpy re-visit again. 4.5⭐

Ronald Dahl is a wonderful storyteller and wrote other books such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches, & James and the Giant Peach. Book 2 of the year finished Jan 4 2019, Audio.

This was ok at best. Listened to it on a road trip with our kids. There was excessive descriptions of the other giants and once the plot finally started it just didn't make much sense.
I didn't care for the way the BFG flip-flopped on his close held values, the innept military men, nor their solution of just dumping immortal giants in a hole. My disbelief couldn't be suspended far enough.

PaperbackPirate I didn‘t connect with this story either. I hated whenever BFG ate the gross cucumber things. 🤢 12mo

Someone left me unsupervised at the "damaged books" table.
In Germany, books in German may only be sold for less than the printed on price if they are damaged. To get rid of books the shops haven't been able to sell for some time they slightly damage the books and then sell them off at a bargain price. Five books, one hardcover, for less than 15€.

Stocking stuffers sorted. ?

Ghost inspected the bag and found it wanting. #catsoflitsy

This F novel “The BFG” by Roald Dahl would be perfect for LC groups! This story is about a girl named Sophie who lived in an orphanage. She saw a giant (BFG) in the middle of the night so he took her. The BFG and Sophie soon became friends and it was up to them to stop the other giants from eating humans. The theme of this novel focuses on bravery that lead to great changes in their lives.

Thayes1787 ESOL strategy #16 would be great to integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities during the LC. Literature circles gives students a chance to optimize individual choice (UDL # 17.1) as well! http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/library/books/the-bfg this website has many activities for students to do with the BFG novel during literature circles or independently after reading the novel with their peers! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 (edited) 1y

Ronald Dahl/ The BFG MF Book. A story of a girl who lived in an orphanage, name Sophie. One night she could not sleep, and was taken by a big giant. The giant was a friendly giant who used to blow good dreams to children at night through their window. The giant was not suppose to be seen by a child if not he had to take them. Sophie saw him and she was taken, however she went to his cave, and turned out to be fun.

ERodriguez The BFG also show her the bad giants . In the end the BFG leaves Sophie in the window of the Queen of England room. The queen thought she had a dream but then realize it was true. The Queen meets the BFG, and they go and capture the bad giants and put them in a cave. Great novel for LC. 2y
ERodriguez A great activity, I found was for the class called “Dream Big Inspiration”.
