Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales
Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales | Stephen King
The acclaimed #1 "New York Times" and undisputed King of Horror Stephen King offers another spine-tingling compilation of short stories sure to keep a reader up late at night. King is in terrifying top form in these short stories, taking readers down a road less traveled (for good reason) in the blockbuster ebook Riding the Bullet; bad table service turns bloody when you stop in for Lunch at the Gotham Cafe; and terror becomes deja vu all over again when you get That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is in French along with eleven more stories that will keep you awake until daybreak. Enter a nightmarish mindscape of unrelenting horror and shocking revelations that could only come from the imagination of the greatest storyteller of our time."

From “1408”

“The Dolphin was on Sixty-first Street, around the corner from Fifth Avenue, small but smart. [In the lobby was a woman whose] light, flowery perfume seemed to summarize New York. On the mezzanine level, someone was playing "Night and Day" in the bar, as if to underline the summary.

It was business as usual at the Hotel Dolphin.”

Continuing my Stephen King high. Library hold came in so Green Mile audio (which I own) is suspended. For some reason this audio edition from Libby only has 5 of the stories 🤔
I own a print hardcover copy with all the stories, courtesy of the local bookmobile, but alas it's in storage 😔

I‘m not usually much for short stories, even though I wish I was, but I‘ve been enjoying these so far. It‘s been too long since I read any Stephen King. Whimsical holiday sloth pants pair well with a good horror story, right? 🤔

One of my most rewatched SK adaptations, as solid as the original story. I like the theatrical ending better. Mike Enslin listening to that recording is way more creepier & heart-breaking at the same time.

O is for the O. Henry Award, which was awarded to King in 1996 for his short story, The Man in the Black Suit. This story was included in his collection Everything's Eventual in 2002.

GarthRanzz I love this rendition for the story. 1y

Man in the Black Suit ?
"Where his feet had touched--or seemed to touch--there was not a single broken twig, crushed leaf, or trampled shoeshape.
Even before he reached me, I recognized the aroma baking up from the skin under the suit--the smell of burned matches. The smell of sulfur."

Not only is it one of the creepiest short stories he's written but it won the O. Henry & World Fantasy Award.

A is for All That You Love Will Be Carried Away.

A short story about a traveling salesman who checks into a motel intending to kill himself. The story first appeared in the New Yorker in 2001 and was later included in the tagged book.

I have not read it, but now really want to.

"It's all just the rinse cycle." -Everything's Eventual

This is actually the last quote before we're told that the protagonist is stuck between his two choices. I've always loved this story, but it was while I was in the psych ward, reading this book that I probably shouldn't have been allowed to have, that I realized the power of that statement. None of it matters. "It's all just the rinse cycle," and that's okay.

Do you enjoy love stories? The backdrop being a dystopian world where everything is meant to be perfect. To learn rather than kill, to think rather than react. All things aren‘t as they seem though, and the Palace program is at the heart of the mystery.

Here we go! It's January 1st, 2017!

I have very simple #bookishsolutions this year. I set my goal for 100 books and the only theme I have this year is #keepingitshort. I plan on reading as many books as I can, reading diversely and most of all enjoying what I read. Sometimes I feel constrained when I take on challenges so this year I just plan on reading! Maybe I'll actually put a dent in my tbr bookshelf! 😂

Omgomg! If you need a good audiobook to listen to download LT's Theory of Pets! Litsy didn't have just the story to post, but it's a story included in this book (which I've read and also recommend). I've never listened to the audio (only 55 minutes) and it's WONDERFUL!! Read by Stephen King. Super funny. It even has an intro (it doesn't say but he is obviously reading to a crowd at some function) that is laugh out loud funny. Do it! Peer pressure!

Fun Photo Friday: What do you like to read books about? There's so many--politics, history, bios, memoirs, true-crime, thrillers, literary fiction. But...first and foremost, I always come back to King. I've read thousands of books and have yet to find another who writes like he does. Not even close

ShelfSpaceLimited I LOVE King. I try to mix up what I'm reading, usually I try to get in more non-fiction, but I always love coming back to SK. Nice collection you posted! 3y
AnnaDesourdy He's the kind of writer that makes me feel like I'm never going to be an accomplished writer 😂 3y
See All 16 Comments
KrisConstantReader @AnnaDesourdyAuthor nah, don't think that way. Have you read On Writing? 3y
KathyWheeler I'm not a writer, but I used to teach composition. On Writing is one of the best and most practical books I've ever read about writing. 3y
Mednasanienbok I'm like you! 3y
NerdyRev I read a lot of religious books due to my career, but every summer and winter I devote to fiction- mostly mysteries, but just good story. July I usually catch up with all the Star Wars books that year. 3y
KrisConstantReader @ShelfSpaceLimited thanks! I have all his books in hardcover and most also in paperback, but sometimes I re-buy them on iBooks to have them handy in my phone. I've gotten so used to e-reading on iBooks, real books now feel strange. Not sure that's a good thing. 3y
KrisConstantReader @NerdyRev have you ever read Where Is God When It Hurts? I have problems with faith, I waver a lot, I think I'm an agnostic but that book is tremendous. 3y
KrisConstantReader @Mednasanienbok 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 3y
NerdyRev @KrisConstantReader I have and that is a lovely book. I question a lot too, especially the actions of other Christians as I lean on the LGBT non violence liberal side of things. I find Peter Rollin's stuff quite interesting- a Xstian agnostic writer. 3y
KrisConstantReader @NerdyRev I will definitely look him up! Actually, I want to have faith, but I took a lot of bible courses when I was in college, learning so much about the context of the bible, how it was written, etc, ever since then I've had doubts. 3y
AnnaDesourdy @KrisConstantReader I haven't but I should!! 3y
KrisConstantReader @AnnaDesourdyAuthor oh, get it asap! It'll inspire you, he gives a lot of encouragement, really great stuff. It's one of the best books I've ever read. Later I'll find some of the great quotes from there & post them & I'll tag you. 3y
