My god, is this book filled with wonderful, thoughtful advice that is just so beautifully written! Strayed is able to connect on a personal level with every letter writer to her Dear Sugar column. My mother wouldn‘t like the language or Strayed‘s tendency to use the f word when talking about sex - it‘s not a book you can put in just anyone‘s hands. But I would def recommend it!

Guys, I‘ve been reading so much that I have hardly been able to keep up with reviews for my blog. So much nonfiction the last few weeks. Hoping to finish this one in the next couple of day. Now I‘m going to have to find the Dear Sugar podcast.

Megabooks This is one of my favorites! 1mo
Mamashep @Megabooks her answers are so thoughtful and compassionate. I‘m loving it. Checked it out from the library but thinking I need a physical copy to have on hand as a kind of reference book. 4w

Megabooks @RachelO I don‘t talk about it a lot, but it‘s had a big effect on my life. I‘ve had 6ish major mood episodes in 20 years. The last one has been the worst. This is a special book to me as it was given to me by a great friend at a transitional time in my life.

Now, I want to pass along a copy a different great friend who is going through a rough time. Her husband committed suicide in August, and now she‘s raising two young girls on her own and dealing with difficult in-laws.

What I‘m wondering is: Is this book too intense to give as a gift to her?

kgriffith This was recommended to me by a bookseller friend a while back and I‘ve been meaning to get to it. I hope you get some feedback, and that either this or another book you find meaningful will be a balm to your friend 💜 10mo
Megabooks @kgriffith Thanks. I hope you read it and enjoy it. I‘m reading it cover to cover for the second time. There are some replies I have marked that I have read more than that. ❤️ 10mo
BookwormAHN I've never read the book, although I did read the description, in my opinion you should give her the book and a note on how it helped you. Keep the tone of the note somewhat lite and hopeful. I doubt she wants more drama but she might want chocolate. My suggestion is the book, a note and chocolate 🍫 10mo

TrishB I haven‘t read so can‘t really help. When I was going through a rough patch my friend gave me a book for similar reasons, the book didn‘t do much for me but I really appreciated her thoughtfulness and that did help,. It‘s the act of being a friend and being there ❤️ 10mo
Chrissyreadit @Megabooks I do not know the book, but I do think the gift given in love will be meaningful, treasured, and I suspect the book will be read when she is ready. 10mo
Megabooks @BookwormAHN Thank you for the advice! I think it‘s a good idea to put a note with it. And a nice chocolate bar or truffles probably wouldn‘t hurt! 😊 10mo

Hmmm, this book only made me more depressed. It was so sad. There is some good advice throughout that I‘ll have to come back to later. The advice where people have lost loved ones is perfect. But the relationship advice has a running theme that seems to point to its ok to hurt people for you to find yourself. I guess is true just NOT the thing I needed to read over and over and over again this week. ( I still love Cheryl though)
