Started reading this last night……. I believe this sign is needed on Mrs. Graham‘s door, haha. Also, I need this on my own door.

Chapter 19, and Huntington is still messing with Helen, but how will it end? #pemberlittens #chapteraday
@BarkingMadRun When you're current read quotes your #PemberLittens Readalong. 🤓
“‘What the world stigmatises as romantic is often more nearly the truth,‘” quoted Vivien.
“The Tenant of Wildfell Hall,” Lady Browning replied, surprising Vivien.
“Anne Brontë—the neglected one of the pack.”
Chapter 18…. Huntington comes to…. Um, hunt…. With Helen‘s father and some other boring men, and her pride messed things up just a little… #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 17: History of Helen, part 2…. Mr Huntington Edition! #onlytheoldguyspropose #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 16…. The Helen History…. #bore‘em #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 15: Gil decides to give Helen a chance to explain herself, but I don‘t think he got what he was hoping for…. #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 14: Gil and Lawrence have a fight, and Gil wins? Just when you think you couldn‘t hate Gil more 🙄🤣 #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 13…. Enough said. #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 12 brings us some drama, and I really did not want to stop listening even though I finished the chapter just before reaching the end of my drive today.
#PemberLittens #audiobook
Chapter 12…. Gil decides to visit Mrs G and she tells him that she will confess all….. tomorrow. He leaves but decided to go back, and catches her with Lawrence….. #pemberlittens #chapteraday PS… I wanted to just hold with “Helen is a hussy” but I‘m trying not to make snap judgements 🤣🤣
Chapter 11, abs Gil is being a good “brother” until the vicar comes over and says he tried to put Mrs G in her place. Everyone is gossiping, and now Gil is mad! #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Gil uses Arthur to get Mrs G to come outside and talk. Mrs G insists they stay friends, although she seems to like him. And then Lawrence shows up…. 🐎
Chapter 9: cattiness abounds when rumors fly about Mrs G, and Gil is mad at everyone! #butaretheytrue #timewilltell #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Playing catch-up today, and ugh, three chapters in a row of Gilbert's bullshit is almost too much to bear. He continues to act completely entitled to Mrs. G's time and attention, hounding her while she's trying to sketch, sucking up to her kid (giving him a dog, wtf?!), and trying to gift her a romantic book.Whenever she's less than thrilled with any of it, Gilbert is offended and "ready to weep with disappointment and vexation." Bitch, please.
Chapter 8: Gil is still crushing on Mrs Graham, who still wants nothing to do with him. He brings Arthur a puppy and Mrs G a book, and convinced her to take it as a gift, promising not to expect anything in return. He promises, even though he does want something in return… #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Finally caught back up with #pemberlittens #chapteraday and I‘m loving this book so far ❤️ Mrs. Graham is such an interesting character. Also, I love chapter titles❤️❤️❤️
Chapter 7: Fergus wants to meet Mrs Graham, but it doesn‘t go quite how he hoped. Gil organizes a trip to the ocean so Mrs Graham can paint. Gil divides his attention between Mrs G and Eliza, and neither are very happy, for very different reasons… #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Chapter 6: Gil likes Mrs Graham a bit more, and spends a lot of time with Arthur as well. Turns out he‘s not the only one who likes her though…… interesting how quickly they all change their minds! #pemberlittens #chapteraday
The more we discover about Mrs. Graham, the more the mysteries keep coming! Today we find out she's a painter, and a good one- Gilbert is impressed against his will. But we also discover that she's hiding out, and there's a portrait of a man that she refuses to comment on. When she doesn't respond to his questions exactly how Gil wants, he goes sullen again, but she smooths it over and makes peace as women always have to and he goes away placated.
Chapter 5: where we find out that Mrs Graham is an artist, sells her paintings in London, and has… “a friend”. Hmmmmm little Arthur is somewhat useful 🤣 #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Started this tonight for #doublespin and I think I will join the #pemberlittens who are also reading this now. I think I picked this one for my “classic” (doublespin) because @BarkingMadRun is leading the buddyread and she makes wonderful buddyread posts. 😊 I think I‘ve caught up- could you please add me to the list @BarkingMadRun ??
OK, so I know it's my teetotalin' Baptist roots showing out here, but what is WITH these people and the drink?! Can we just let Helen live?? Folks go all pearl-clutcher when Mrs. Markham says that Helen doesn't imbibe, and Gilbert snidely observes that the party is better without her, and later tells Mr. Lawrence (maybe the only decent dude around) that she's a cold, hard bitch because she...has opinions! Woof. 0/10 would not recommend this party.
Chapter 4: while everybody is drinking and behaving badly, they talk smack about Mrs Graham and her opinions about drinking and behaving badly 🤷🏻♀️ #pemberlittens #chapteraday
Mrs. Graham and Arthur trek out to see the Markhams, and hoo boy, these neighbors are hardly a good time. They think Mrs. G is a total helicopter parent and will make a "Miss Nancy" of her son and yikes on bikes, if the overt misogyny isn't enough to get your hackles up, just wait- here comes the lecturing! Gilbert can't stand that a woman doesn't like him and won't capitulate to his way of thinking, leaving our man-baby feeling vexed. Boohoo.
Sing it, sister! 🙌🏻
This seems like such a modern feminist attitude that if a contemporary writer were putting these words in a 19th-century woman‘s mouth, I might roll my eyes. #PemberLittens
Chapter 3: the one where everyone argues over how to raise a child 🙄#pemberlittens #wildfellhall #chapteraday
Chapter 2 and we're into quintessential Brontë territory- evocative descriptions of an eerie, wild landscape, including a decaying mansion with a decapitated swan bush out front. Is it giving Tim Burton or what? After a run-in with Mrs. Graham and child, our narrator goes to shake off the weirds with a visit to sweet Eliza and her amusing but shallow conversation, and Markham earns my ire by saying he hates cats. YOU ARE DEAD TO ME, SIR. DEAD.
Chapter 2: a glimpse at Wildfell Hall and a couple of the inhabitants….. #pemberlittens #wildfellhall #chapteraday sorry this is so late, day 1 of vacay and we were in the car most of the day!
I started listening to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall this evening on my walk. This is a first time read for me, and I‘m planning to listen to this audiobook version. I‘m looking forward to the #ChapterADay posts!

First day and I‘m already behind, but here‘s my copy @BarkingMadRun ! An unexpectedly busy day left me with no reading time yet, but I hope to get a start this evening. #PemberLittens
I started this years ago but set it to the side, because life interrupted. However, I am so excited to start this again (and finish!). From what I remember, I was transfixed by the story, and Anne Brontë‘s writing was amazing.
I picked up this particular edition through BookOutlet some time ago. It‘s a rainy afternoon at my house, so a perfect time to start this. #PemberLittens
For this #pemberlittens selection, I'll mostly be reading this edition, although I'm sure I'll download the ebook for nighttime and/or commuting. I've never read this or any other Anne Bronte, so it will be good to finally do so.
The top two books are Tenant in two volumes, from a 12-volume Brontë set that was my mom‘s. The bottom edition I bought for the lovely Edmund Dulac illustrations.
#PemberLittens #chapteraday
In March and April, life and work defeated me and absolutely destroyed my reading plans. Today marks a fresh start with the esteemed #PemberLittens and I am beyond psyched to dig into this fabulous work by Anne Brontë, the "overlooked" sister who some might say is really a surprisingly tenacious feminist queen. I'm so excited about this one!

This will be my first time reading super excited to finally read Anne Brontë ?#pemberlittens #chapteraday
I had a physical copy of this in my late teens/early 20s but haven‘t been able to locate it. I went with the free public domain kindle ebook. Just finished the first chapter and it made me recall how much I preferred Anne‘s writing to her sisters‘. #pemberlittens
My first time reading this, although as you can tell, I‘ve had this copy for a bit. #pemberlittens @BarkingMadRun
#PemberLittens @BarkingMadRun I'm confused. Was going to listen to #TTOWH with this Audible freebie. Except Opening Line doesn't match up. Isn't the Opening Line: "You must go back with me to the autumn of 1827."⁉️
@BarkingMadRun - This is my first time reading this book as well and I am intrigued to see what it is all about!! Couldn't resist getting a pretty edition. Always on the lookout for an excuse to buy a lovely book!!

Ok #pemberlittens we will be starting this on May 1, and it has 53 chapters. Let‘s vote! Should we read one chapter a day or two? I‘m good with either one! If you are not tagged below and would like to join us, drop a comment below! I will add you to my daily tag list.
Our May/June #PemberLittens book by another author will be Anne Brontë‘s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
I‘ve read this in the last few years (LOVED it — it‘s my second favorite Brontë sister book), so I‘m hoping someone else would be willing to lead/host the readalong? Please comment if so!
The book has 53 chapters, so would lend itself well to a slow chapter-a-day buddy read, but of course that‘s up to the host. ?

Wildfell Hall, same initials as Wuthering Heights, coincidence or intentional? Similar to Wuthering Heights as the narrator is within the story telling the story to someone within the story. Except this is by letter. As per Wuthering Heights, the surrounding landscape deteriorates the closer you get to Wildfell Hall. Symbolism of the deprivation upon reaching proximity of the property enclosure. Some notes of similariity to sister Emily‘s work.
A good beginning, I am already invested in the story and am looking forward to seeing what happens next. Anne‘s writing has definitely improved from Agnes Grey to Wildfell Hall. It saddens me to not be indulged with other great works from these sisters. Such a cultural travesty death can bring at times. Michael Millward the reverend: Reminds me of Mr Pomblechook from Great Expectations. Arrogance and sternness and lack of empathy being heightened
