Pickpick

First book completed-November 2024. I started this book late on October but it is a long one so I finished it on November. Three editions? Well I knew I will like the story😜Did I mention I need😳😜the Spanish edition from Alma publishing? It is so pretty😍 Im a book collector😌
confess that I was so interested at the beginning of the book but there were some parts that I felt bored. But there were only few pages because I was intrigued again⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) I liked the eerie atmosphere and Walter‘s voice. Too many details? Maybe but they were so well described as expected in this time. I liked it and this could be a good re-read for me. I don‘t know how with so many books I have to read🤣
I read this book for #Victober Readathon YouTuber @BooksandThings in memory of Jenny from @jenniferbrooks channel who loved Wilkie Collins⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) and I read a Sherlock Holmes book last month in honor of Alice @AliceandtheGiantbookshelf . Both YouTubers died this year. 😔

Pickpick

An enjoyable October read, this ate up a lot of my focus for the month. I enjoyed many of the characters, as well as the twisty plot, even though it did begin to seem dragged out. I surmise that its original serialization is to blame for that. Not much else I can say without spoilers, beyond expressing that I am left entertained. I think I may end up trying to be a completist of Wilkie Collins, but perhaps I‘ll reserve his books for #Victober. ⬇️

psalva A final thought- I was eager for the Moonstone to be returned to India, so I‘m also glad of the ending. 11mo
dabbe I adored THE WOMAN IN WHITE. This one not as much. 🧡🍁💛 11mo
psalva @dabbe That‘s one I haven‘t gotten to yet, so I have it to look forward to 🤓 11mo
dabbe @psalva Yay! I can't wait to read what you think of it! 🤩

Progress:
last week was pretty productive, even if I wasn't feeling my best. Finished my #Victober read, Haunted House, and my palette cleanser; The Little Prince. Looking forward to hopping into Lud in the Mist, I'm quite fascinated by pre-tolkien fantasy novels.

Mehso-so

My last #victober read is pretty underwhelming, unfortunately.

This book felt a bit too drawn out for the amount of plot it contained. It opens up an interesting conversation about abuse and abused women and their reasoning for going back to their abusers. Although I can sympathize with Helen, I also think she shouldn't have gone back to take care of her abuser and still be abused by him because “maybe he'll redeem himself in the end“

Doppoetry Helen does it because she is a good Christian and respects her marital vows but I also think that notion falls apart when her husband doesn't respect those vows. I can't get behind the idea of her wanting to preserve marital vows while her husband continues to break them constantly. I understand that she doesn't want that to reflect on her, but the idea falls apart when your spouse doesn't respect their vows. (edited) 11mo

Progress:
I have mostly been focusing on my #victober read, and thus I did not finish anything last week. Will definitely finish the tagged book this upcoming week and resume HTSAHH

TieDyeDude My wife enjoyed How to Sell a Haunted House. I'm reading my first Hendrix now, My Best Friend's Exorcism. 11mo
Doppoetry @TieDyeDude I'm not liking Haunted House as much as I hoped, but it's still a fun read. I really enjoyed My Best Friend's Exorcism. I hope you enjoy it! 11mo

Whenever I read Wilkie Collins it tends to be in October. Of course there‘s the #Victober tie-in, but his books also seem to fit the season. Melodrama, cliff-hanging chapter endings, mystery, dynamic characters. Something about the crisp fall weather makes me want to curl up, get cozy, and escape into a twisty story with a meticulously arranged plot. I started this yesterday morning and I‘ve been immersed since. 1/4 way through this page turner!

Tamra Just finished this as a reread. Fun! 11mo

Progress:
I finished two books last week. Will continue onto my 3rd #victober pick, though I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it before the month ends. I have also been making my way through HTSAHH and I'm having mixed feelings about it, definitely not what I expected it to be.
