Jesstifies Just read it, it was really good, slow for me at the start, but became very comfortable!! 1mo
Stellina @Jesstifies I'm noticing it's a slow start so I'm happy to hear it picks up. Thanks for your opinion, that helps a lot! 1mo
KarmonR I was surprised to see how many forms of communication Stoker played with. 1mo

A Defence of Calvinism | Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Finished my first piece of Victorian writing for #Victober. The Prince of Preachers explains theology in easy to understand wording. This is a small booklet, yet holds so much. Look up Charles Spurgeon and read a few of his nuggets of wisdom!

Trying to sort out my October reading...

Spooky month so want to read ALL of the spooky books.

#Victober & I love Victorian novels & I want to read ALL of Victorian lit.

The Tempest is so interesting for #ShakespeareReadAlong & want to read ALL of the Tempest retellings while it's fresh in my mind.

The Secret Commonwealth comes out & I want to reread the trilogy & FINALLY get around to Book of Dust.

So clearly I'll read none of these 🤣

Cathythoughts 😂 Scary 😱😂I just got this one on my kindle - Litsy recommendation- sounds good too 2mo
batsy @Cathythoughts Yes, I just added that to my TBR because I saw it here! And when I say added to my TBR I mean that most sincerely 😂😂 2mo
saresmoore 😂😜 I just love this post! And I feel your pain! 2mo

ValerieAndBooks Do we ever get to read all the books we want to read in any given month 😂?? 2mo
Tanisha_A Just so apt! 😆 2mo
batsy @Cathythoughts The His Dark Materials series is beautiful, Cathy! But I read it so long ago and need a refresher before the new books :) Victober started out on BookTube ... Fun idea for sure 🥳 📚📚 2mo
batsy @saresmoore @erzascarletbookgasm @Tanisha_A Those images just speak to my soul when it comes to deciding what the heck to read from my infinite TBR 😅 2mo
batsy @ValerieAndBooks True! 😆 Usually I'm not too fussed about planning my reads for the month but October always rolls around with so many fun challenges and I'm always like yes this this and yes THIS TOO 😂👻📚 2mo
GingerAntics Isn‘t that how it always works out? lol I gave up making plans a long time ago. lol 2mo
batsy @GingerAntics Yup, par for the course where I'm concerned 😂 2mo
GingerAntics I do so well with plans for other things, but with reading they seem to hinder more than anything else. 2mo
LeahBergen What the hell is that thing? 😂😂 2mo
youneverarrived 😂😂😂 2mo
saresmoore Also, what @LeahBergen said! What IS it? 2mo
Redwritinghood @saresmoore @LeahBergen I tried to look it up and I think it‘s a cat, but take it from me - don‘t do a Google search unless you‘re prepared to see even creepier stuff. 😱😱 2mo
batsy @LeahBergen @saresmoore 😂😂😂 This originated on twitter I think and it's good that they have a place to describe where memes come from https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/persian-cat-room-guardian?full=1 @Redwritinghood I used to think it was a monkey 🙈 2mo
Liz_M For Tempest retellings, I recommend Indigo by Marina Warner. 2mo
batsy @Liz_M Thank you! That was one of the books I was interested in. I've read her essays and one of her nonfic books and really enjoyed them. 2mo
sprainedbrain This post is hilarious. You win Litsy today! 😂😂😂 2mo
Centique Yeeessssh that thing is freaky! 😂 I‘m reading The Subtle Knife to my son at the moment, we‘re loving it - my first time reading the series too 😍 I feel your pain about wanting to read All The Things! 2mo
batsy @sprainedbrain thank you! 😂😂 2mo
batsy @Centique The eternal pain of the bookish! ❤️ I'm glad you're enjoying The Subtle Knife with your son! When I read it I just remember being transported, and utterly enchanted... I'm craving that feeling again. 2mo
GatheringBooks currently arranging my bookshelves and keep setting aside books i want to read nownownow until they are enough to fill that shelf. 😱🤷🏽‍♀️ 2mo
batsy @GatheringBooks I feel that! 😆 Good luck with setting up your new home library! 2mo
Graywacke Come on, you have all month. Think of the possibilities! 😂 Reader optimism! 2mo
Graywacke That knowyourmeme page is terrific. !! 2mo
batsy @Graywacke 😂😂 Reader optimism is how I got into this pickle!! Yes, that page is great. I'm officially of the age where I need explainer for memes 👵🏽 2mo
Graywacke @batsy I think I‘m past that age... 2mo
readordierachel This collage is everything 😆 2mo
rubyslippersreads Whatever that thing is, it perfectly captures the feeling of not being able to stick to a reading plan! 😹 I haven‘t even read La Belle Sauvage yet, so I can‘t even think about 2mo
batsy @readordierachel 😼😸 2mo
batsy @rubyslippersreads I haven't read La Belle Sauvage either. I remember buying it when it was released (two years ago I think?) and posting about it here, saying I was going to attempt to read it then 🤣 2mo
britt_brooke 🤣🤣 2mo
Lindy ... 😳that is a scary white creature, perfect for October‘s spooky atmosphere. I‘m not familiar with the Persian cat room guardian meme and I am definitely NOT going googling. I don‘t want nightmares. 1mo

Kicking off #Victober with a classic I haven't read before: Lady Audley's Secret. Along with a cozy blanket and furry companion, I'm getting into the Autumn vibes as well. 🍁 🍂
Who else is participating in #Victober and what are you reading?

#Victober #Victorianlit #classics #read #books #bibliophile #Octoberreads #ladyaudleyssecret #reading #fallvibes

KarmonR I am going to use #victober as a motivator to revisit some Victorian poetry and perhaps an essay or two from the period. 2mo
julieloverofbooks Currently reading David Copperfield and loving it! 2mo
Stellina @julieloverofbooks Ohhhh, I'll have to add that one to my list! Thanks for the recommendation. 1mo
Stellina @KarmonR Sounds like a great plan! I've never participated before but I'm loving it. 1mo

Pickpick

My first finish for #Victober! This is the third of Anthony Trollope‘s Barchester series, and so far it‘s my favorite! Trollope tackles a lot of social and political issues, all with a sene of humor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DivineDiana Look at that cover! Swoon! 13mo
SharonGoforth @DivineDiana Yes! Love it 💕💕 13mo

For the avoidance of doubt, this Welsh novel was written by Daniel Owen, published in 1885, and the modern translation into English was done by Robert Lomas. I‘m finding it really charming so far!
