It‘s raining hard here, so instead of going for a walk, I‘m settling in to start Holly after finishing up Murder Road.
“Just when you think you‘ve seen the worst human beings have to offer, you find out you‘re wrong.” (p. 442).
King features Holly Gibney, a character I‘ve loved. She has been hired to find a missing woman and in the process unveils horrors wrought by a pair of demented professors who are seeking a way to reverse the ravages of their old age. King proves, yet again than no one should underestimate midwestern small towns.
It took me a while to get through it but I loved it as I knew I would. If it bleeds was a great start to holly gibney and im glad she got her own story.
Holly was my favorite character from King‘s The Outsider, so I‘ve been looking forward to reading her stand-alone since it was announced. I haven‘t read the Mr. Mercedes series, although I‘m interested now to go back to the start of her story. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I kind of feel like giving away who the serial killers were right at the beginning took away some of the suspense. Didn‘t care at all for the heavy handed COVID commentary
This was entertaining enough to listen to when it was super cold and I needed a cozy distraction; I listened to it while crocheting this toy T. rex and together they were the perfect recourse for cabin fever. #litsycrafters

The latest from Stephen King continues the story of Holly Gibney, private investigator. As a fan of King‘s books, this is another good one. Another twisted mystery and murder for Holly to solve. Such a great character and really enjoyable read!!
Don't mock my made at 230am, in pencil, eyeballed, and marred in eraser marks reading bracket 🤣🤣
My favorite read of 2023: Holly by Stephen King
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A wrap on Holly Gibney? I immediately wanted this for its stunning cover, but being a relative King noob didn‘t realize I had a bit of back reading to do, so like any good completist, I started with Mr Mercedes. Over the last couple of months, Bill, Holly, Jerome, Barbara, etc, have been such enjoyable characters. Holly obvs stars, and shines, here. Mr King, your brain disturbs me. And your stories enthrall.
12-7-23: My 98th finished book of 2023! Holly Gibney has been around for many books now. She shows up in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy and in the short story If It Bleeds as well as The Outsider. She is a great King character. Flawed in many ways but a great detective who faces a lot of scary stuff. In this novel, Holly is dealing with a crazy old couple, several disappearances and her own personal issues related to covid.King always keeps my interest.
I was looking forward to this so much but it didn‘t live up to my imagination. The first half was good but not great. It wasn‘t until the final quarter that I felt excitement and didn‘t want to put it down. I do like to see the continuation of Holly‘s story and Barbara and Jerome. 3.5 stars.
We #NashvilleLittens did a local #SpookySwap. I‘ve been dying to open this package! Everything is just perfect! My extra-talented friend @Booksnchill painted this lovely card. Definitely framing it! 📦👻📚💚
I stopped reading King years ago after needing to read the ending of one of his books in the middle of the night so I could sleep. As it turns out, his ability to write an obsessively suspenseful novel hasn‘t diminished during my sabbatical. Even when you know the killers in the first 25 pages, it‘s still suspenseful. Some parts could have been shorter, but it‘s truly superb.
I just finished this audiobook and thought it was amazing. Good mix of thrill, mystery and “horror.” Anyone else read this?
I haven‘t read very many of Stephen King‘s books but I definitely love Holly Gibney. I loved The Outsider and I loved this one too. I definitely need to read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy asap to find out how Holly got her start.
Holly is really good. I like how Stephen King incorporated the Pandemic into the story. As for the killers, they are very unique. I think they are the one of scariest antagonists that Stephen King created. Brady Hartsfield was pretty but he has some competition. 5 stars ⭐️ out of five. #holly #stephenking
I got nine books for my birthday from family and friends. My only problem is which one to read first!
Set during the pandemic, Holly follows its eponymous heroine, private investigator Holly Gibney, as she takes on a missing person case that puts her on the trail of two truly horrifying serial killers. Parallel timelines show the killers' crimes while Holly, working mostly solo, follows the clues they've left behind. King fans who enjoyed the Mr Mercedes trilogy will definitely want to read this latest installment.
Loved this!!! It was my #September #DoubleSpin book :)

I loved revisiting Holly and the gang, but particularly loved the structure of the book: we readers know who the evil villains are from the start and we read while Holly catches up. I feel like it shouldn‘t work, but does. My only complaint is King‘s pop culture references all feel so dated.

I really enjoyed my time with Holly again. King has delivered a strong story with an intriguing mystery and some gross-out moments that made my skin crawl.
For those who haven't read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, Outsider, or If It Bleeds, there are spoilers in this book about those.
I‘ve always enjoyed Holly‘s appearances in King‘s other books, but this is the one that made me understand why he loves her (and tipped me in that direction, too).
Another banger from the maestro.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Holly is one of my very favorite literary characters, and I loved every minute of this story. I listened to the audio, and the narration was perfect.

Holly starting my readathon bingo boards on a good start (I haven‘t made my bookspin bingo board yet but l‘ll do that later today)! Dark trees for #naturalitsy , Title starts with “H” for #falling4books , Missing for #bodycountbingo , and Blood for #Ispybingo #scarathlon #skeletoncrew
My 1st review of #scarathlon 2023! This is not my favorite King novel or even close - I prefer my King with lots of supernatural elements - but I did enjoy seeing Holly again and watching her unique brain grapple with this mystery. I wasn‘t as interested in the copious Covid talk or the exciting news for both Robinson characters…it could have been trimmed down somewhat to make the novel shorter and more gripping. But King is still King so I ⬇️
If you are looking for a Stephen King novel that does not have a supernatural element to it...this would be a good pick.
Random people are disappearing and King's beloved investigator Holly Gibney is back on the case.
While the time jumps were a bit confusing at times and the ending was a tad unsatisfying, this was a compelling (and slightly stomach churning) read.

Went outside my usual today and got this almost black cover for my Scarathlon reading list!!🧡🎃🖤
It's officially time to start #Scarathlon in my time zone now. Kicking things off with a favorite movie and the new Stephen King book.

Wow. I have not read any of his other books with this character in them. But, not necessary, this book was a two day marathon of reading for me. Impossible to put down. I have a weird relationship with Stephen King books. I don‘t like all of them, and I don‘t read him often but when I do….I become obsessed with his writing. This one is right up there with The Stand and Under the Dome (two of my favourites).
I am really loving this one so far. I don't think I will finish it in the next 2 days, so it's gonna be a carry over to next month.
I read some in a coffee after my neurologist appointment (been tough reading with these Migraines still plaguing me). Lovely PSL and Lox for breakfast yesterday :)

Several times while reading this book, I ALMOST dnf‘d it. The main story line was great. Almost up to king‘s older books. (Which I loved). BUT. The one thing that made me not love this book was “the covid factor”. The main character brought up covid/masks/vaccines every time she met someone new or every few chapters. And the political aspect (trump/anti trump/Biden etc). I read to escape reality. But I finished.
1. Holly by Stephen King was a fantastic book to listen to in September.
2. A “staycation” with an overnight and several day trips planned to explore home next week, my husband will be traveling for work for 10 days, so I‘m looking forward to some self-care alone time book-ended with activities with my college kid! A run one weekend and “Spirit tour” the next. It‘s a full dance card! ❤️

Holly Gibney is one of Stephen Kings best characters. This is the fifth book in which she has appeared and the first in which she is the main protagonist. This is a solid detective story; not horror or supernatural proving that King is a consummate writer, as if we didn‘t know already. What a contrast to the stunning Fairytale.
WOW! This book actually had me gagging….if it were any other author I would‘ve abandoned the book close to the beginning. But the master storyteller kept me plugging along. This was true horror. Extremely creepy yet at the same time covers the height of COVID well. Dare I say it was nauseatingly good? Yup.
It's not really a mystery because the whole time you know who the criminals are, but it does qualify as nice and gross, so I think it is horror.
The pandemic features prominently in this book, so if you're trying to escape it, you might want to table the novel for a later time. But if you're looking for validation of current events and you have liberal leaning views, it works.
No surprising twists, but I like the characters.

Here's my TBR for October. 🎃
Bk1 of my #BookMail from the last few weeks is the latest King, the 3rd in his Holly Gibney series. When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers Agency asking for help to find her missing daughter, Holly is reluctant to take the case. Her partner has Covid, her mother just died & she‘s meant to be on leave. But Penny sounds desperate. A few blocks away,Professors Rodney & Emily Harris are a nice 80+ married couple with a dark secret in their basement.
I already posted a pic of my physical tbr for #scarathlon, but this one is specifically ones I definitely plan to get to. I am not a fan of horror movies, but I always watch a lot of Supernatural and Stranger Things in October, and I rewatch all the Halloween-y Bang episodes.

King says he could never let Holly go, well neither could I. I absolutely adore the character of Holly and I loved seeing her get her chance to shine.
he is still my favorite. the man is a legend and this book was consumed in a few days. i hope he continues the Holly story. makes me want to be a private detective!
