“You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That‘s what scares you most.” I love this quote so much! Personally it‘s just so inspiring and has helped me a lot in my day to day life. I hope it inspires every single one of you to go out and to live with the knowledge that you can do anything.

Trying to venture back into high fantasy {I‘ve only read Harry Potter and LOTR}, with the encouragement of a friend who loves this author. Fun read, but a few stumbling blocks for me: one being the protagonist is an imprisoned assassin trying to win her freedom back under a regime responsible for bloody conquest and enslavement across half a continent…yet she still has time for boys and gads about her guarded castle room in a “too-short nighty.”

4/5⭐️
The first of a series. This really surprised me! A lot of detail was put into the world building & story. I really enjoyed it overall! I did think the romance (while I appreciated it was clean) was quite flat despite a love triangle being one of the main elements. The ending is also not really....happy? Just "meh"? But it is a series...so you know that "the end" isn't a final destination. Not an incredible work of fiction but a fun read!

BrittanyReads If you liked book 1 (I gave it maybe a 2.5 stars..) you're going to love the series!! The books just get better and better! Enjoy! 6mo
idealityandme @BrittanyReads thank you! That's really good to know! There were definitely things I didn't like too but compared to other books - this one stands out haha. So maybe my rating is generous. I'm excited to read more - but nervous about this love triangle🤦‍♀️ 6mo
BrittanyReads 🤐🤐🤐 I'll say nothing!! Enjoy, I wish I could read it for the first time all over again! My only irk with book 1 was the writing mainly, but I'll give SJM a pass, it was her first book and I think I read somewhere she was 16/17 when she wrote it. 6mo
idealityandme @BrittanyReads okay that makes sense! It's actually really impressive for a 16/17 yr old! I have read worse from grown adults😅 6mo

You can tell this book is setting up a series. Is it the best piece of literature ever written? No. Did I enjoy it anyway. Yes. Yes I did.

After reading SJMs other series, I figured I would give this one a whirl even though I have tried to read it before. I‘m not quite as wild about this series as the others but I think this book is really setting up for some better reads later on. I enjoyed that this competition that she was in wasn‘t super forefront which I think left space for the main character to settle into the relationships that she will be involved in later. Onward!

I've finally decided to read this series. To be fair I LOVE the court series and Crescent series so I figured it was time to quit putting this one off. As far as a set up for the series this was a good start. I'm anxious to see how this plays out.

'Throne of Glass' was definitely better than 'Assassin's Blade'. I'm beginning to realise that SJM has stock characters that make her series' all a bit samey...although, to be fair, they are good characters! Starting a reread of an all-time fave- 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. Am reading with my Senior Book Club in school 💛👍

I started and stopped this one in the past, but this time I powered through. I enjoyed it by the end, but I wasn‘t as caught up as I hoped to be. For a trained assassin, the main character felt very immature. What I‘m wondering is, does the series keep getting better? Is it worth continuing? I know that the first book is often the weakest in a series like this and I‘d love to hear feedback on if I should continue.

xicanti I wasn‘t wild about this one either, but I gave the series another chance and ended up loving many of the later volumes. The books are far from flawless, but when they work, they really pack a wallop. 9mo
AvidReader25 @xicanti that‘s really good to hear! I‘ve had so many people recommend the series to me and I want to love it. 9mo

Given slavery or freedom, Celaena Sardothien chooses freedom-- the cost, a competition to see who can become the king's champion and personal assassin for hire. Not only must she compete against other ruthless assassins, but dark magic & jealously, too, as she catches the eye of the prince. YA & not as sensual as other Maas books such as A Court of Thorns and Roses.

I truly don‘t know what to say.
Maas has a lot of fans all over the globe but I don‘t think I will be one of them.
Was the story/plot a good one? Yes.
Was the writing amazing? Can‘t say one way or another.
Will I read the rest of the books? Maybe.
Don‘t know if I enjoyed it enough to finish the series. I also may or may not have spoiled what Celaena does to Chaol in later books and I am not happy.
Did you like these books? Should I continue?

So I‘m not completely sure how I feel about this one. I felt like the whole book was slow and dragged out for what seemed like a predictable ending. Maybe I‘m comparing it too much to The Court series. It was great story telling but I felt myself wanting more than what I was reading. Like I wanted each page to give more than what it gave. So for now it‘s a so so.. going to start the second book in hopes for more.

AkashaVampie I have heard that this book is more just for the world building and very slow. I believe they get better. 13mo
Jennaferr That makes sense. And I hope so because I bought the entire series 😂 13mo

😲❤️ These book covers alone! Depending on how much focus gets placed on the love triangle, I may get weary of the characters over time, but for book 1 in this series, I had so much fun watching these characters show their true personalities. And while some plot points were easier to figure out, the story moved along so quickly I didn‘t care. #TeamCaleana

Question for the group: As a Sarah J Maas virgin, which book should I read first??

BrittanyReads I started with ToG and have yet to read the book of novellas lol I will warn if it's your first read through, book 1 is weak but stick with it the series gets so much better and is one of my faves! Enjoy! 2y
JuliaTheBookNerd @BrittanyReads Thanks, I think I‘ll start with ToG ☺️ 2y
Lyssa131330 I agree, book 1 is the weakest. I read Assassins Blade first and it does give detail for many events mentioned later on, so I liked reading it first but the most common recommendation I‘ve seen is publication order (so third I think) 2y
