Pretty Girls: A Novel | Karin Slaughter

Pickpick

Whoa this book was a little deep in the dark side of humanity. This is the first book by Slaughter that I‘ve read so not sure if she normally writes about such disturbing subjects? I felt the story started out a little slow but definitely picked up in the middle with a few good twists I didn‘t see coming. This one may not be for everyone but if you have a tolerance for disturbing subject matter, I recommend!

5feet.of.fury Yeah she‘s pretty twisted. Some of her other books/series get some relief in the form of romance or character interactions. But they are all graphic and dark. 20h

Another wild ride for Chevy Stevens..The story follows Annie O‘Sullivan, a realtor who is abducted from an open house and endures a year of brutality at the hands of a Freak! But the story does not end there..disturbing to read at times but good fast paced read! Recommend 😀

So I‘m still trying to figure out what I just read…the story focuses on a disturbed friendship between Kit and Diane that just never resonated with me. It was just really weird. I was excited to see a book set in a laboratory as that is where I work but that excitement died as the story just dragged on and on. I managed to finish it but would I recommend it? Nah!

I need to stop coming across tear jerking stories! Last YA novel I read annoyed the crap out of me but this one was a pleasant surprise. The love story between Finny and Autumn is something you‘ll only see in the movies or books but it‘s a love story that will stick with you after the last page.

I tried and tried to get into this book…I even made it a 120 pages in but…I just couldn‘t finish. No connection with any of the characters, overly narratively ( is that a word) and just flat out boring. The premise of the story of haunting a crappy ex after death sounded interesting but did not keep my interest. When you get to the point where you don‘t care what happens in the end time call it quits!

I remember seeing the movie Everest years ago so I was familiar with the tragedy covered in this story but it was very interesting to read an account of the actual experience. How anyone can desire to put themselves through what it takes to reach the summit of Everest is beyond me. This story had some slow parts but once the ascent to the top starts the story really picks up with every heart breaking detail of what happened on that fateful day.

Get your tissues ready!! I waited before diving into the Netflix series to read the book. Just started the series this evening and see they already butchered the storyline 😡. I guess I‘ll continue watching to see where they take it but as always…the book is better!

This is probably one of the best books I‘ve read in awhile. I loved it. Super creepy and perfect for the Halloween 🎃 season. I heard they are potentially going to turn it into a tv series which if so I cant freaking wait. It‘s full of mystery, murder, ghosts…what more could you want?!

Never Knowing: A Novel | Chevy Stevens

Good twisty thriller that distracted me from doing homework while on vacation. Without ever knowing, Sara is the product of a serial killers rape 35 years prior and now he has found her and wants to get to know his daughter. A bit of a predictable ending but in all good story, quick read!

I always like a book that makes me do a little research out of interest of topics in the story. Traveling to Antarctica? Never realized that is it was legit cruise that was extremely expensive and obviously extremely cold 😆. This book was light hearted, funny and exactly what I needed for a escape from the hell environment of my job right now. Pick!

This book started out ok but then just became confusing where the main character had strange interactions with real or imagined characters in the book and was confusing whether it was the past or present. I felt like the ending was underwhelming also for all the build up over the loss of her child. Many elements in this story just left me with me so many questions that I was hesitant to give it a so-so. I finished it though so that a plus 🤣

No Second Chance | Harlan Coben

Pickpick

If I‘ve read Harlan Coben before it was a really long time ago so wasn‘t sure what to expect but this book was pretty good with a little twist at the end that I was not expecting. Coben wraps up this story in one neat little package which is something I like..no lingering thoughts of what the hell happened! It‘s not full of nail biting suspense but in all a pretty good story that keeps you entertained throughout 🙂

So I knew this book was going to be weird coming from Palahniuk but I just couldn‘t get into it. The characters were absolutely annoying to the point where I just started skimming page to make it though. It takes a lot for me to quit a book so I somehow stuck through to the end. Was it rewarding? Not really…the premise of the story was interesting just the characters fell flat for me.

First time reading this author and will not be my last. This is the first in a series featuring the character Tracy Crosswhite a detective with the Seattle police department. I just happened to stumble upon the first book and glad I did. If you like legal thrillers I definitely recommend! Kind of like a John Grisham of the West Coast!

atl_scfl Let me know how the Harlan Coban book is! I read Tell No One by him, which was really good, but haven't had a chance to read any more. One day, we need to plan a free library road trip around town and find books 😆😆 5mo
Bec_lectic @atl_scfl that‘s sounds like a plan.. the rich neighborhoods are the best! I‘m reading My Sisters Grave which is pretty good and may read the Coban book next. 5mo
KaylaCReviews Ugh, I loved My Sister's Grave. So many emotions. I haven't read the other books in that pic, so I can't say which would follow My Sister's Grave well, but I would have happily followed it with Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. 5mo
Bec_lectic @KaylaCReviews thanks for the suggestion! I‘ll add it to my list. I definitely enjoyed My Sisters Grave. 5mo

The Dilemma | B A Paris
post image
Pickpick

Initially thinking this book was a thriller as B. A Paris‘s past novels were, I was sadly disappointed it was a family/marital drama. But in Paris‘s usual style she has created a drama that keeps you turning the pages wanting to learn more about the secret Livia and Adam are keeping from one another. Well written and tear inducing..I recommend!

Not sure how I really feel about this book..just the story never captured me, none of the characters were likable, the writing was off sometimes. Thankfully this was a freebie out of a lending library. I‘d say pass on this one unless you‘re desperate for something to read 😂

Ok so this book started slow but as you progress you really get caught up in the story! There‘s a lot of jumps through time and a few characters to follow so if I didn‘t read consistently I was a little lost who was who sometimes but in the end I loved how all the pieces of the story connected. This is the first time I‘ve read Kate Morton and will definitely check out her other books as she is a beautiful writer!

So I binged this book in three days because I had to know how it ended because it was so good. Each chapter left you wanting to know what happened next but I have to say the ending just fell flat for me. It was rushed, confusing, and quite a few things were left unanswered. If you liked Girl on The Train you‘ll like this. I still say pick because it kept me wanting more and hey maybe you will like the ending.

This book started out not too bad and continued on throughout keeping my interest but seriously that ending? I turned the page at what I thought was still a few more chapters and nope that was the end. Wtf was that? I had to put this book down to allow myself time to be in the mood to read it. After 2 months & 2 renewals from the library I made it though. It was an ok story perhaps for someone looking for a mindless easy read. The love story part between Tom and Nina and their awkwardness is what ultimately saved the book and actually made me laugh out loud in parts. Plus the I liked the authors writing style and wit injected into some of the conversations.

Finally reading some of my books that I‘ve collected for free over the years but never read because I always found something more exciting at the library. I‘m on the fence on how to rate this book...it was quite well written and not bad but it just kinda lost me in the end. The ending was just like “oh ok”. For the whole focal point of the story to not be resolved in a satisfactorily way just kind of left me feeling unfulfilled. I‘d definitely give the author another chance as I did enjoy her writing style.

Ok so I can‘t rave about this book being the most exciting and riveting but I‘m going to rate it a so-so cause it kept me reading. Its a super easy read and I pretty much finished it in three days. This book just didn‘t do much for me. All the character jumping throughout the story left me a bit confused to who was who anymore. Midway through I just didn‘t care who was who, what the husband‘s name was or whatever. The ending was a big huh for me also. I had to reread it and still scratching my head. The book is still readable though and that‘s why I gave it a so-so.
