Jay Kristoff had better be writing the sequel now because I need to know what has happened and what will happen.

Loved this traditional take on vampires yes they are no longer friendly school kids who sparkle they are back to being our mortal enemies.

The only thing worse the religious cults trying to destroy them.

@FantasyChick gifted me this book during last year‘s #jolabokaflod and I finished it last night. I have always said I do not like fantasy but I may have to amend that opinion because I really enjoyed this epic tale of Gabriel, a silversaint whose mission it is to defend against the vampires who are taking over the world. It‘s part LotR, part GoT, part BtVS and all (700+ pages) awesome. I never read series, but I will definitely finish this one.

The MC, Gabriel, tells the story via interview with his captor but it‘s done in an immersive way.

When the MC discovers he‘s half vampire, he‘s taken by the Holy Order to train to kill vampires. I pictured Gabriel as the Witcher, a dark broody character.

Plenty of action, blood, gore, and a touch of romance. Great world building and stunning artwork throughout.

What a monster of a book! Thoroughly enjoyed Gabriel‘s journey and the shifting narration. Some parts were a little contrived, but I was still very eager to crawl into bed every night to read another chapter or two! Vampires, Silversaints, and mysterious prophecies! What‘s not to love?!? Oh, and the illustrations were fantastic! I give it a solid 4.5/5 ⭐️ and I can‘t wait for the next in the series!! I‘m a fan!!

I'm only 41% in but I'm loving the idea of Vampires being the monster once again, like the old classic Dracula or Interview With The Vampire, instead of some love interests we have seen in some books these past few years.
Reading this 800pages monster along with other books, so might take me awhile to finish. In the mean time...
Do you prefer reading Vampires as horrific monster? Or some kind of romantic love interest?

#currentread #bookworm

5feet.of.fury I prefer the scary monster version! I mean I still read some nonsense romantic/conflicted vampire stories but… 5mo
BooknerdsLife @5feet.of.fury Hahaaa right? 🙂 I would not say no to a good read either but we need more dark vampire stories! 🦇💀 5mo

It made me think of Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (which I liked) and a bit of Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. With that said, wasn‘t really crazy about it. What I did like was that instead of dating material, vampires were back to being dark and scary creatures no human would want to run into. So basically a captive telling his story, with lots of violence tossed in, and a search for the Holy Grail sprinkled on top.

This was a beautifully written and gorgeusly illustrated book! It was a rollarcoaster of emotions and would definitely make a beautiful anime or tv show. While it could be somewhat slow in some parts, that could also be because I was trying to tandem read with another book. For the beautiful and emotionally charged story, this is one that I definitely loved!

PaperbackPrincess19 I enjoyed this book but Jay Kristoff is one of my auto buy authors he never writes a book that disappoints. I can‘t wait for book 2. 5mo

EOTV went from a So-So to a Pick with Reservations. My first experience of this author. Loved the narration by Gabriel, the plot, the action, and plenty more kept back for the next novels.....but BOY! it was soooooooo long. Took me 3 weeks to get through it. I would give this a 4.5 stars. not quite a 5 star book. It is over long, and leaves you hanging at the end. I know this is a planned trilogy but after reading 739 pages, I wanted a conclusion. I enjoy the world building. The sun never rises and vampires are taking over the world. The story was interesting. It is at its best when the vampires are in the scene. I am intrigued by the vampire we meet at the end. I would love to get more of her story.

This is my first Kristoff book and I am impressed! I usually shy away from high fantasy stuff (I have a hard time trusting authors to world/character/plot build all at once), but figured I‘d give it a try since I love vampires and wow. This book has it all, and with pictures! Now to wait (impatiently) for the sequel, lol.

New and interesting take on vampires, placing them firmly back in the scary and horrible camp. In this world the sun inexplicably stopped rising 27 years ago; vampires and other nasties began to take over as they could now walk abroad anytime. Gabriel (MC) is a member of a holy brotherhood that hunts all monsters but especially the vampires. Very dark and violent but with beautiful lyrical prose, it was tough to get through in spots. (cont.)

Lesanne At a hefty 734 pages I felt it could have been a couple hundred pages shorter; after a while there was too much fighting, killing and fleeing over and over. The slow reveal of Gabriel‘s backstory was well done and I really enjoyed him as a character. I will be reading the next one whenever it‘s released, although I hope it‘s not quite as long! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 7mo

Bought the US signed First Edition. Not quite sure what to make of this. Only 100 pages in. Seems to be a lot of words just for the sake of it , could be 200 pages shorter just because of that. Loving that the Vamps are just evil though and quite liking Gabriel as the narrator of his life. I'm giving it an above so-so so far.

Ok Littens I need a bit of advise because I'm not sure what I'm doing about this. One of the books I ordered for a gift came in today and the tip in is upside down 🤔 It happens but my question is: Would it bother you if you got a book like this? I figure it would cost me more to send it back than it's worth so do I keep it and order a new one or send it along anyway and hope the person receiving doesn't mind? Anyone deal with this before?

wanderinglynn Oh that is weird. I have never seen a misprint like that—especially a signed one. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe contact the store you got it from & ask about it? 9mo
