Book 52 of 2021. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wanted to like this book more than I did. However, I could not get past the way Hadley talked - there were way to many aint‘s and don‘t gottas for me. Otherwise, I loved the premise of Hadley, a young girl who is going through some very difficult childhood trauma, working with a depressed shelter dog and figuring some things out about herself along the way.

The Heart Principle | Helen Hoang

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am a HUGE fan of Helen Hoang‘s books. This is her third book, and while it dealt with some heavier subject matter than the first two, I loved it! In her author note, she mentions that the book is half-memoir, so she actually experienced some of what went on in the story. I just love that her books have main characters on the autism spectrum. The Heart Principle was well worth the wait to read!

ShelleyBooksie Is this book as steamy as The Kiss Quotient? She is fantastic at writing steam!! 5mo
Meghan1 @ShelleyBooksie there were definitely some pretty steamy scenes, but not as many as The Kiss Quotient, I don‘t think. 5mo

BookishMarginalia True Blood is VERY different from the books, especially from the quirky spirit of the books. 6mo
Meghan1 @BookishMarginalia I definitely agree! I appreciate them both, though! 6mo
Meghan1 @BookishMarginalia I just hit season 4 and things veered way left. I agreed with you before, but I agree even more now. Characters are very dark that weren‘t that way in the books. Not that I don‘t like it; it‘s just very different. 6mo

Book 26 of 2021. Sooo good! This wasn‘t quite as heavy as Dear Martin or Dear Justyce (there was an element of romance), but it was a commentary on socioeconomic status and how it affects children and young adults. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! I read this many years ago and think I missed a lot of the nuances. This was a quiet, but powerful story not just about growing up, but growing up after childhood trauma.

JackOBotts This is a favorite of mine. 💜 I first read in in high school and passed it around with my friends. Every re-read brings more to Charlie‘s story. 10mo

Book 12 of 2021. I had no intention of finishing this in basically one sitting, but it was so powerful that I couldn‘t put it down. This is the follow up to Dear Martin, and features Quan, who is in a juvenile detention center after being accused of killing a cop. Definitely not an easy read, but a necessary one. It reminded me that ALL kids need someone to believe in them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovesbooks87 I watched one of her virtual events and she said she is writing a book like this from a teen girls POV. But I think she said it won‘t be out until 2023. 11mo
