Lo Blacklock is a travel journalist who goes on the maiden voyage of the AURORA BOREALIS, a luxury cruise chip, for an assignment in the Norwegian fjords. Lo witnesses what she believes is a woman being thrown overboard, yet all passengers remain accounted for, and no one believes her. A fast-paced thriller and page turner--and a very easy read. A fun, watery romp. #claustrophicinwater

This was okay. Up to like 70% of the way I was very scared it was gonna be one of those “and then she woke up and it was all a dream” stories 😂 but I dno, I‘ve been a bit annoyed at the narration for Wares books. Imogen is good and all, but I wish there was some more variety. All books kinda sound like they‘re the same after a while. I prob need a longer break from her

This suspenseful novel is about a travel journalist who is robbed before leaving on a coveted and luxury Norwegian cruise ship North Sea. Even though the trip is a work related, she quickly finds herself in an awkward then dangerous position. The reader is lead through an intriguing yet unpredictable week long journey filled with astute observations from the first person POV. Pay close attention or end up rereading passages! Very Well written.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Prior to reading this book, I was not keen on the idea of taking a cruise ever in my lifetime, and this book did not help to change my mind. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers with atmospheric elements, you‘ll find this book entertaining. Don‘t expect this book to be award winning. Accept it for what it is - an entertaining read. I had high hopes for this locked room mystery, but it ended up being pretty average. I sped through the end to find out what happened, but I didn‘t feel very invested in the main character. If I had read this before The Woman in the Window, I think I would have liked it more, but it fell a little flat for me in comparison. Book 3 for #kicktheslump! I met my goal, woohoo!

CoffeeNBooks I love Ruth Ware, but this is my least favorite of her books. 9mo

I confess this is not my favorite genre (book club selection) so that may be coloring my opinion, but to me this book was just okay. The premise is intriguing but I spent so much time exasperated with the MC/narrator I didn‘t even care what happened to her by the end. ⭐️⭐️1/2

I wanted to like this more than I did. It wasn't bad, I just didn't love it. And I have more questions than answers now about the story but don't really care enough to seek the answers. 😬 (Although my book club for it is Sunday and I'm sure I'll find some then in discussion. 🤓) I found the first half of the book intriguing, the second half a tad ridiculous. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

So that's done... this was only so-so because I do like the way Ware can weave a tangled web and Imogen Church. The story was so farfetched & I really thought Lo was the worst! Paranoid when she shouldn't be and totally nonchalant when she should have been panicking. 🤷‍♀️

Lo is so paranoid and annoyingly neurotic that I'm hoping she got thrown over the side and this is a ghost story... 😂👻

This was definitely a case of the right book at the right time. I‘ve been having trouble reading lately, and this was a light, fun whodunnit that seems to have broken through my barrier. Imogene Church‘s narration, as always, was fantastic! In the past I‘ve been slightly disappointed by Ware‘s stories, but I enjoyed this one!

I didn‘t love this one as much as I was expecting/wanting. Excellent premise - I love a locked room mystery - but I honestly couldn‘t care for any of the characters. Our main character, Lo, was a mess and just a really unpleasant person most of the time. I also don‘t understand why a home invasion in the beginning of the story was even included…it didn‘t seem necessary. I did like the lead up to the ending and how it wrapped up. 🌟🌟🌟 1/2

Nosy narrators crack me up and this one certainly kept me entertained. While on a cruise ship for work, the narrator witnesses a horrid scene that she can‘t quite explain and spends the rest of the cruise being nosy, avoiding her work, and trying to figure out what had happened.

This is the type of book that from the get-go, it begins as intense, enthralling and wanting you to turn the next page faster than you did the previous one. The books begins with a tense scene, and while you think that most of the book will remain as part of solving the crime to this specific scene in this specific place, you were swept up in a completely different direction - in the best way. This was my second book by Ruth Ware, and it was even better than the first I read. Really a story to my liking. Thrilling, mysterious, and with a maybe unreliabale character (who knows whom you can trust!) And I loved the setting as well.

The first Ruth Ware book that I couldn‘t get into. It took me forever to read this because until the last 10% I was not even remotely interested in what was happening. I guess I would still say read it, but... quickly so you can get to the really well done ending 😅

Book club pick this month was kind of a letdown. Slow buildup to a not very exciting ending. The whole book felt pretty rushed. There were so many characters that we were supposed to be suspicious of, but we didn't really get to know any of them aside from "that guy's a photographer" or "this guy owns the ship."

xicanti I‘m sorry the book was a bust, but I love your jellyfish lamp! 2y

I LOVE an unreliable narrator, as long as mental illness is not used. This main character is drunk all the time and I can‘t figure what is going on. Any suggestions on other books using this device?

I thought this book had the potential to be a real page Turner, but I found the main character to be a whiney victim instead of a true heroine and was quite disappointed. Although I enjoyed the outcome of the book, I wouldn‘t go so far as to say this is a book I‘d recommend to my book loving friends.

I was surprisingly disappointed in this one. The premise was so good, but the main character was very annoying, so much of the book was just spent in her head. I can only read so much deliberation on what to do, followed by panic, and back to deliberation before I just need a plot point. I liked the reveal, but after that it became weirdly boring, no more plot twists.
