Pickpick

July reading done!! The winner this month was Fools and Mortals. I don‘t know why I was drawn to this book but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the banter of all the characters. The Likeness was a close 2nd and The Kingdom of Sweets came in last. Beginning vacay in 2 days and headed to South Dakota. Whoot Whoot!!

A common science essay: “describe the journey of a water molecule” is transformed into an epic POV novel based in Nineveh, London, and Iraq. I rooted for each main character for different reasons. Each POV had their own strengths and I loved the history lesson of the Yazidi faith and history. Narin‘s grandmother had wonderful nuggets of advice and one-liners that made the novel worth reading in itself. Wonderful.

Pickpick

This is based loosely on a real life Underground Library established in Bethnal Green station,& all the community building activities /events that occurred there. The “found family” group of women the novel follows over the course of a year (1939-1940), are transformed by the challenges of the bombing during the Blitz, sustaining the library underground, reading aloud as a community bookclub,& as a consequence, creating an ever expanding community.

StaceGhost This sounds perfect for right now 4d

Instructions for a Heatwave | Maggie O'Farrell

Mehso-so

This is probably my least favorite O'Farrell I have read. I don't know if it is my lack of attention, but I was so confused on what time we were in, who everyone (but the children) was. Names kept getting dropped and I kept saying "Have we met this person?" This really isn't about the husband/father going missing, it is focused on the adult children - their lives and attitudes. I would start to get interested in Monica's family life then get ?

ChaoticMissAdventures pulled to NY with Aoife who was interesting but I felt we never stayed anywhere long enough, and the language was so overwritten there was no meat in the story. It felt like the story pivoted just as soon as I got a grasp on who and where and when we were. 7d

#HaikuADay #HaikuHive

So my Tuesday was marginally better & slightly shorter than Monday, but not great & I crashed early—hence why the Tuesday daily haiku is being posted today. I‘ve decided to make my week by day the theme, because why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully, I‘ll get Wednesday‘s written & posted soon.

Tuesday, resembled
Monday‘s exhausting pace but…
Friday is closer!

I found this harrowing and so so sad. Also, I will say it touched my heart and I learned a lot; I am glad that I have read the Epic of Gilgamesh (tho it isn‘t necessary for understanding this story and the characters.)

Had to pull a pic from the archives; this glorious rushing stream is near Gunnison Colorado.
