All the Rage
All the Rage | Courtney Summers
"My dad used to say makeup was a shallow girl's sport, but it's not. It's armour."Kellan Turner is not the golden boy everyone thinks he is and Romy Grey knows that for a fact. But when she speaks up, she is branded a liar. Telling the truth has cost her everything, because no one wants to believe a girl from the wrong side of town. But when news of Kellan assaulting another girl gets out, the cost of staying silent might be more than Romy can bear. With a shocking conclusion and writing that will absolutely knock you out, All The Rage examines the shame and silence inflicted upon young women in a culture that refuses to protect them.

It‘s always so hard to rate a book when it deals with such hard topics. But ultimately this fell flat for me. There Were things that were done right and then things that were lacking.

This rounds out my readings of all the C. Summers books. Just as the others did, this one had me stopping, crying, and feeling a lot of hurt. #MeToo shouldn't have to be a movement, but this book just exemplifies why it is and how even the ones who are supposed to protect us don't believe the stories of horrific acts of sexual violence on female bodies. How it breaks people and makes them do anything to feel normal again in their skin.

LogiKitty [Quote: “I think wildly that I could reach through and grab her wrist, like I could stop her and take her away, because no one else is doing it. Because no one else did it.

I put my hand to the screen, covering hers. We‘re wearing the same color nail polish.“]

This passage reminds me of an article I read during a training... About how we demonize people who are struggling for the vices they have when maybe that's the only current comfort they have. It's a good read to get a different perspective.

I really feel like the actually story here is so very important. It shows the side to sexual assault in which women are victimized for speaking up when something happens and it shows the cruelty of people in general. I‘m on the fence because of the way it was written. The mystery of it is central, but the disjointed feeling in some ways made it hard to put everything together and almost frustrating in parts because I found it to be confusing.

#LMPBC Round3 @StephanieGeiser @emilyjwhit9 @LauraJ @suvata Finished the last book for this round. Kinda frustrated me. Really didn‘t care for the characters. It could be me though. 2⭐️s It is always good for me to be exposed to books that I would not pick up for myself. Thanks 🌹Will mail soon.

#Aprella #day18 #KeptMeCrying This is the last book that destroyed me totally. In this novel, a teenage girl is drugged & raped by the town sheriffs son. In the aftermath he, the golden boy, is believed & she, from the poorer part of town, is branded a liar & bullied relentlessly, even by people she thought were friends. But then another girl goes missing.
After finishing this book I ended up on the floor having the worst panic attack. TCTH

I expected more from this one. I found the subject matter to be compelling, but there were a couple of holes that bothered me and I found myself irritated at the writing too frequently to give it a pick. I did like that the main character uses the red nail polish and lipstick ritual to give her control back after trauma. It wasn't a bad read by any means, I just wanted more from it than I got.

The name of this book was very apt as I felt enraged the whole time I read it. But as difficult as it is this book is also very important to read. I honestly don't know how to rate this. I'm sitting here shaking after a surprise panic attack hit when I finished this. I'm a survivor of sexual assault. It happened a long time ago, and I thought I was over it. But this book. Damn. Ripped me open. Either the author was a teenage survivor too or. Nup. She has to be. No one else could articulate so well how it feels. I'm still shaking.
