It still happens! I found these oldies at a thrift store today.1940s paperbacks ,one Bantam ,one Pocket Book and two Dells. The inset upper left are the backs of the Dells, they are called mapbacks for obvious reasons.Happy, Happy, Joy,Joy!

Freespirit ❤️❤️❤️ 1mo

Set in the Middle East, a family ruled by a cruel matriarch is freed once she dies. It appears that she has died from a bad heart, but certain things don't add up and Poirot is asked to take a look. The are suspects: the elder son, his wife, the brother and sister looking for freedom, and all would like to protect the youngest sister who seems to be getting stranger.

Only clunker was the racism, but seems to be a product of the times.

I know Agatha was a product of her time, but I‘d forgotten just how racist her writing could be.

HKGirl Yep. Sometimes I'm a bit shocked by the casual statements she makes. 1y

[Book 14 of 2018] Decent mystery. Agatha Christie racism scale: high and very uncomfortable (treatment of "Nubian" servants on tourist trip; narrator mocking the Arab tour guide for making anti-Jewish comments, WHICH AGATHA CHRISTIE DOES ALL THE TIME HERSELF as narrator in her books, and now she comes across as anti-Arab too for the way she talks about this Arab character).

15:25:05 / 25:00:00 for #25inFive And I‘ve finished two whole books now and DNFd one. This Christie was amazing and totally unpredictable! I was genuinely impressed with who done it. Never would have guessed! 5/5 star from me. A new favourite AC to pop up there. Some interesting and some detestable characters. #agathachristie #dameagathachristie #queenofcrime #murdermystery #classiccrime #bookblogger #booklover #bookish

Ten hours and 3 minutes out of 25 yet for #25inFive so doing well. I‘m really enjoying Appointment with Death and it has all the things I loved about Death on the Nile so I‘m thinking it may be up there with that one! It seems to be trend that I love the “death” titles best. Death on the Nile, Death in the clouds and now this 😅 #agathachristie #dameagathachristie #queenofcrime #murdermystery #classiccrime #classic

Day four of #25inFive and my total so far is 8:25:14 / 25:00:00. So about 8.5 hours so far. I‘m hoping I can bump it to at least 15 before Monday night but we shall see. If I can at least finish this book then I‘ll have completed two during the readathon and will be happy. #agathachristie #agathachristieclub #queenofcrime

Decided to read some Christie for the rest of the #25inFive readathon (with my Miss Marple bookmark because my mother dropped my beloved Poirot one in her cola...)😰 Christie is very much a favourite author, like Top Three, and sometimes I get withdrawal from reading her. Any fans? 🤗 #agathachristie #dameagathachristie #murdermystery #crime #classiccrime #poirot #booklover #bookblogger #maidensofmurder #queenofcrime

My first Agatha Christie on Audio. The narrator was good. The story was great as well. As usual, I did not see who the bad guy was! This wasn‘t my favorite story that I‘ve read so far, but It won‘t be my last on Audio!! 😊

🌟🌟🌟🌟/5.

Everyone once in a while, I guess ‘who dunnit‘. Nope, not this time. Dame Christie is a clever one. 🤔 (Be prepared to overlook the silly ‘falling in love at first sight‘ that seems to crop up in Christie novels.)

Classic Christie, this mystery features Poirot on a holiday to Jerusalem where he of course encounters murder. The domineering matriarch of a family is found dead, and Poirot boasts that he can solve the case in 24 hours just by interviewing the suspects. Plenty of red herrings, it seems like every family member has a reason to kill the controlling woman.

I started this today thinking it was a normal audiobook, but it's more like a radio play. Very interesting, but I think I want to read Christie's actual words next time.

glo1 I've done that before accidentally. Now I'm careful to make sure it's an unabridged audiobook not a dramatized version. I can see why they appeal to some people but for me, I always want to read the author's actual words. 2y
kathedron I did that, too, and can't quite convince myself that it counts towards my #192019challenge 2y

#day29 #junebookbugs I took advantage of the BookOutlet 15% sale for my #latestbookhaul ..... I've loved Agatha Christie since I was little, when they were the first adult books I read..but I've never owned any (other than a few vintage copies I have that were my Gran's) ....So I recently decided to collect these paperback editions... starting with the Poirot books... only another 29 to go, then on to Miss Marple! 😆

RealLifeReading Ooh nice! I'm still waiting for my package to arrive! 2y

My two favorite indie bookstores in Ann Arbor. Aunt Agatha's Mystery Bookstore and Literati. I've worked at both indies and chains, and you can't beat the intimacy of the indie. 💕💕#aprilbookshowers #indiebookstores

Jenshootsweddings I love literati so much! Maybe you can show me the other one next time I'm down! 2y
Suzze @Jenshootsweddings Absolutely! I'd love to get together. Aunt Agatha's is actually only half a block away from Literati! 2y
