Published in ‘05 and on my shelf for 4+ years, and it felt incredibly relevant to 2021. Moaveni is a journalist born in CA to Iranian immigrant parents. She goes to Tehran for work, yes, but more to make her own connection to Iran. This is a compelling memoir and a political discussion.

Perfect fit for my #readingasia2021 #Iran pick.

MaureenMc I‘ve also had this one on my shelf for years. Maybe I‘ll choose this one for my next book club pick. 🤔 now
Librarybelle This sounds fascinating! now

Captures a time and place that has gone / been destroyed. Enjoyed reading of this time in history through the author's eyes.
Read for #readingasia2021 #tibet

My Life in Doha: Between Dream and Reality | Rachel Hajar, Rachel Hajar M D

Mehso-so

The author and her Arab Muslim husband move to #Qatar. She came from the Philippines, raised Catholic, and met him in the US where they both attended med school. It is fascinating how she found her way in this conservative country, staying true to her beliefs. She even works as a cardiologist while raising 5 kids. I just wish she would be a bit more critical about what definitely is not the most correct country on earth.

#ReadingAsia2021 🇶🇦

Librarybelle You have to be close to finishing this year‘s challenge! 5d

Unfinished: A Memoir | Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Pickpick

I came across this in Libby while scrolling nonfiction audios. I knew nothing of her other than she is married to Nick Jonas. She was a Miss India and Miss World. An actress. An ambassador for Unicef. A film director with her own company. Through her actions she tries to change things such as India's view on women and beauty. I learned many interesting things about Indian culture, like the many traditional things associated with weddings. ⬇️

tdrosebud Overall it was an easy read, or listen, and I found myself enjoying it. #nfn21 @coffees @rsteve388 #readingasia2021 #india @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle 6d

I started Still Life and the beginning is gooood! I am also starting My Life in Doha for #ReadingAsia2021 and will be trying to read a book from the #ToB22 longlist each week until the shortlist is announced. Looking forward to all of these!

squirrelbrain I thought the beginning of Still Life was a bit slow, then suddenly I was captivated so it‘s only going to get better! 7d

And that‘s a wrap! I have officially completed #ReadingAsia2021! 🥳🎉🍾 I included a few of my standout reads for the challenge in the pic, but there were so many books I really enjoyed. I learned a lot about Asia, and I‘m glad I did. I‘m so excited to head to Africa in 2022!

squirrelbrain Yay! Congratulations 🥳! 1w

Erika Fatland traveled through the Central Asian former Soviet Stans and relates here her travels, some history, and current events in the area. I thought this was fascinating. She did a good job of varying the information so it didn‘t get bogged down. This was a great book to wrap up #ReadingAsia2021. #Tajikistan

Librarybelle I‘m looking forward to this one - it‘s staring at me from my shelves! 1w
BarbaraBB You finished the challenge! Fantastic! Congratulations 🎊! I have two countries left! 1w
Hooked_on_books @Librarybelle I was deterred from it for a while because it sat there looking fat and dense. But it‘s not dense at all! I more or less read a country a day, so that took care of the fatness. 7d

jenniferw88 I'm so excited! And also glad that I didn't look at my phone during the night - if I had seen this I wouldn't have been able to go back to sleep! 😂 1w
tenar @jenniferw88 😂 Same here! I snuck in on the waitlist, have been terrifically excited, and now can‘t wait to receive your list. Very glad to meet you!
@monalyisha I‘m amazed how quickly you‘ve matched us. It‘ll help me with utilizing my library as much as I can, thank you! And I love our duck. What a crest!

jenniferw88 @tenar I can tell you that I'm recommending book #1 on my list to everyone! Unfortunately I can't remember the other ones on my list! 😂 1w

tenar @jenniferw88 Ooh, a brief nonfiction on a topic I know little about? I love learning; that‘s so up my alley! What made you decide to read that book this year? My number ranking of my list was totally arbitrary except for my top spot, 1w
jenniferw88 @tenar it was my choice for #readingasia2021 - Saudi Arabia. I love learning too, and think we've been well-matched by @monalyisha - I have a complex medical history, but definitely need to raise my awareness of disability issues. Have you read this one? It's not on my list but it made me think. 1w
tenar @jenniferw88 That‘s neat! I‘ve not tried one, but I imagine ‘round the world challenges are one of the best ways to learn new things while reading. I, too, have a complex medical history, and only really identified as disabled and started reading about other peoples‘ experiences in the last 4 years. It‘s been such rewarding learning; I totally recommend it. I have a copy of Crippled and haven‘t read it yet! Pleased to hear it‘s thought-provoking! 1w
monalyisha @tenar & @jenniferw88 I love that you‘re already chatting! Feels good. 🥰 1w
monalyisha @tenar Thanks! I learned from my friend‘s caption that it‘s a hooded merganser & that they have a silly head Bob mating dance (sort of like the one from Night at the Roxbury). 😅 1w

Super late for #twofortuesday but Littens are so forgiving I figured I‘d play anyway. Thanks @TheSpineView for the tag!

1) No but I‘m close! Just letters A, K, and Q for #litsyatoz and finishing my monthly reads for #authoramonth and #foodandlit. I won‘t finish #readingasia2021 but I‘m still plugging away anyway because I love the challenge.

2) Tagged, and fortunately it goes toward 3 of my challenges!

TheSpineView You're welcome and you can play any day!👍😊🤩 1w
