This is one of the few books I read after watching the movie, but it didn‘t affect my enjoyment of the story at all. Although, enjoyment might be the wrong word, considering the subject matter. This book is very well-written and I felt so deeply for the main characters.
1. The entire time I was reading this I kept accidentally calling it Mudblood. 😆
2. I really enjoyed the first 80% of this. I'd give that 4⭐. Then the last 20% came along and ruined it. Awful, hopeless, depressing ending. Even though the theme is racism, I expected SOMETHING good to be shown, some clear point or hope...and there's just not. I guess the author was going for realistic, but it didn't work for me. Disappointing.
Like The Help but with more violence. I always struggle with privileged white people telling races stories in the US south. This didn't work for me.
A beautiful atmospheric debut set in 1940‘s Mississippi. Two families, one black one white. Two families toiling the land, one owner, one tenet. A shared life but not equal. Told in multiple POVs ~ haunting and emotionally resonating. #Booked21 #MustacheOnCover #PoP21 #ThreeGenerations Highly Recommended
SO GOOD 🧡Looks like a potential 5 star 🤞🏼

Another beach day, another book! 🌊🌊🌊 #beachreads #mountTBR #weekendreads
The storytelling, the emotion, the many many tears. Shit, what an amazing book.
Day 21: For fun, I am going to post one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want. #bookstoread #tbrpile @StaceyKondla
#TrickyCat is just the cutest! This picture really doesn‘t do him justice. #CatsofLitsy (And the one who eats our books —see that gnawed corner?— is #ChipmunkCat)
How I read at work... #sneaky #audiobook This is a great book to listen to. The readers are awesome! And nobody knows..... I just use one earbud, but it helps that I'm married to the boss so can't get fired 🤷♀️ believe me, I've tried lol edit- this book is incredible and I recommend the audiobook! Now to watch the movie to see if it matches the one playing in my head as I read it. I'll be thinking about this one for awhile 😓 a definite 👍👍
Was gifted this book today by a good friend. It looks like an interesting read and a movie to definitely watch. Have you read it?
The Mississippi Delta right after WWII. A way of life like it has been for ages: white farmers, black tenants, separated lives. For both a white and a black soldier who fought and were received as heroes in Europe it is strange to go back to a place where nothing changed. Where all is about race.
A disturbing and emotional read with very real characters. Highly recommended.

The lyrics of #WhenTheLeveeBreaks make me think of the power of nature, which is also so perfectly descibed in this great quote by Florence, a colored woman in my current read. I‘m loving it so far.

This book was well done. A captivating read. Definitely much better than Jordan's other book 'When She Woke', which had a amazing premise and start but fell flat about halfway through. I was apprehensive to pick this one up because of that, but ultimately I'm glad I gave it a chance.
We have such a long way to go before we cast off the chains of hatred and division. This took place 75 years ago, but it‘s just as relevant now. This was the hardest book I‘ve read so far this year, but what a journey it was. Hillary Jordan is absolutely a writer to watch.

All from the tbr shelf 📚📚 Will I ever catch up?! 🤦🏼♀️
Powerful story of racism, friendship, land and violence. Set in Mississippi after WWII, this is the story of the McAllens‘ struggle to work the land and 2 veterans (one black, one white) who struggle to deal with a world that hasn‘t changed as they have. Tragic and yet not without hope. https://cannonballread.com/2018/11/the-book-was-better-but-the-film-was-still-ex...
Wow! A challenging book, Mudbound is painful and heartbreaking but beautifully written. The way the author is able to immerse you in a story with so many perspectives, is truly remarkable! Thanks for choosing this book for the #restingbookface swap, @Leelee.reads ! I love that our books are starting to find their ways home after such long journeys! @elkeo @TheWordJar @MaleficentBookDragon @Tsubame @BookHermit @KassKho @ScarletQuill @Carleneishere
This was so good. I knew absolutely nothing about it when I bought it. I am not normally a fan of books where the POV alternates between multiple characters, but I thought it worked really well here. I‘ve read so few books that really explore the lives of soldiers after returning home from WWII- I thought Mudbound did an excellent job with that aspect of the story.
Took yesterday off for a mental health day. End of the day- I broke a tooth. 😣 So ended up taking off today to get to the dentist. I am terrified of the dentist. So, been reading Mudbound, which is really good, and decided to pick up 2 other books while at Target. Books make everything better!
Vacation day 4: Starting book #4, but Cecil stole my seat.

So, I‘ve been having a hard time with books lately. It super-sucks to be stuck and not be able to really grab hold of anything to like. I finally finished one that was pretty good. Maybe I‘ll be unstuck soon?! 🤞🏼

Over all I will give this book a flashing 4 stars. Only because I did not appreciate the ending for the Jackson family. I felt like there was not a far balance between the two families. I am probably biased but I feel that this book was a little biased too.
I did enjoy this book and it was a definite page turner.
@hes7 I finished your pick for the #LMPBC and I thought it was really good. I've been holding off on watching the movie because I wanted to read the book first...I'm so glad I did! It's such a good read, but ugh.. heartwrenching. It was a great pick!

A powerful and incredibly moving novel, quite unforgettable. Recommend - Read it. Watch the film.
A story of two southern families that live through unbearable circumstance during the Jim Crow era. So many struggles and hardships abound that had my heart aching. And that brutal climactic scene with Ronsel will haunt me for a while. This book is gut wrenching and has highly sensitive issues that will bring tears to your eyes. 😥😔

#25infive Count me in! 🙋🏼♀️ I can finally sit and read a spell tonight.
I‘m going to tackle the oldest books on my tbr list with #bookmail from a recent Thriftbooks haul. A little excited as these have been on my Goodreads shelf forever. I‘m starting off with Mudbound. 🍷📚
I‘m so glad I finally read this book. It‘s heartbreakingly good.
@Ingerella I‘m planning to get it in the mail to you this afternoon.

I know this book is about to break my heart; I know it‘s not going to end well...and yet, it‘s hard to put the book down.💔 #booksandcoffee
A totally under-the-radar read for me, and I‘m loving it❣️Although I have yet to see the Netflix series adaptation of this book, I may never have known about it otherwise. #bookstomovies #undertheradar #booksandknitting #knittingandreading #knittersoflitsy #readingandknitting
Anyone here belong to a book club? Ever been in a situation where you knew in advance that the discussion was going to be VERY uncomfortable? This is our couples book club pick for this month. And one of our members is Afro-American. Feeling nervous......
This book was a pick for our couples book club. I must add that one of ours members is Afro American, the rest are white. I am a bit nervous about how this discussion is going to go. 😳
I loved the intensity in which the author describes each character and feel it is a well written book. But the subject matter is quite disturbing.
