This thing is breaking my heart! 😭 #currentlyreading
I love this chapter! I understand why Hermione things they should turn it in, it's the responsible thing to do with Black on the loose, but I'm so glad he doesn't. It's one of the most amazing magical artifacts from the books. How did they get the map to identify new people on it? How does it know where everyone is, especially when they've never come into contact with it? So cool. 🌻 #potteraday
Poor Harry. “At least a hundred dementors, their hidden faces pointing up at him.“ Sounds so freaky! How did more kids not faint? 💀 #potteraday
Finally caught back up! ✨ #potteraday
It's crazy to me that Black can affect a painting. The otherworldliness of it scared me extra bad the first time I read this. I kept thinking: What can't he do?
I was SO excited for this movie when it came out! I was just about to turn 13; I remember watching the credits with the parchment floating by thinking: Wow. That's the best thing I've ever seen. Prisoner of Azkaban brings back so many happy memories!
Reading #potteraday in bed with my boys this morning. I keep getting behind! How are y'all doing? ⚡
I got 3 hours in yesterday, totaling 16 for #24b4Monday. I started Attachments at the end there and am loving it! Perfectly on theme and hilarious. 💕
Poor Hagrid. Having Malfoy in your first class shouldn't be allowed. 😞
What do you guys think about Divination? If it's more about having the gift than studying, why teach it? Do you think parts of it can be learned??
Lupin!!! I had a huge crush on him growing up. I think I still do. 💘 #potteraday
“If you do not pay me, I will be paid by your heirs.”
This tale fascinates me because it's supposed to be (loosely) based on history. Apparently, “When you're flipping through the town chronicle of Hamelin, you'll find an entry in the year 1384: 'It is 100 years since our children left.'“
So ... did rats bring plague? Was it a Children's Crusade? Emigration? Some even think a dancing plague. Wish we knew. #germany #readingeurope2020 #fairytales
“The Nettle Spinner“ is so creepy!! And sad. While the good people get what they deserve in the end, it ends on a decidedly morose tone. The antagonist succeeds in making their life miserable for years. Sometimes I just want them to knock off the bad guy! #belgium #readingeurope2020 #fairytales
Love this chapter! The creepy dog sets the perfect scene. It's the best surprise when Fudge doesn't care that Harry's blown up his aunt -- and used lumos. Good thing the Ministry likes him in this book! And ironic, or ridiculous, that Harry gets a warning for Dobby's magic and not his own though, lol. 💜💚💜 #potteraday
Poor Dudley, I'd almost feel bad about his depiction if he wasn't so awful to Harry. Marge, though, is the absolute worst. One of my favorite scenes in the movie!
Can't wait for tomorrow! I love the Knight Bus. 💜 #potteraday
Another great @Liberty rec! I found this book at times un-put-down-able and at others difficult to connect to. It really puts you inside the character's head, which is not always a pleasant place to be. Very well written. The MC reminds me of Merricat. 💕
I finished my first #bookspin! I will probably not get to my #doublespin this month though. This puts me at eighteen hours for #SquidgetsRoomReadathon!
I love the letters and newspaper clipping. Oh pompous Percy and his fez! His Prefect badge is pictured in Kay's illustration, I checked. For some reason, this detail tickled me.
The moment Harry opens The Monster Book of Monsters is priceless. I'd forgotten it happens so soon! I love his hesitation as he considers just what Hagrid could have sent... It's a great way to remind us of past books/characters while progressing the story. ⚡ #potteraday
This book was hilarious! And the character uses #Litsy!! So glad I read @ashlieelizabeth's article on the best audio Kindle Unlimited has to offer. This was on the top of the list. I got to switch between ebook and audio as my weekend required. It facilitated much cleaning! 🎧📚 #SquidgetsRoomReadathon
If you have Kindle Unlimited, I'd definitely recommend this @BookRiot list!
Here are some discussion questions for our #potteraday watch-a-long! My answers are in the comments. Hope you had fun watching! I know I did. ✨💀🌿
Couldn't resist! 💕 #ya #currentlyreading
I got five hours in yesterday and kind of hopped from book to book. Hoping for more consistency today! I don't usually listen to music while reading, but my toddler is obsessed with everything Frozen, so we listened to a lot that, lol. #SquidgetsRoomReadathon
Thank you all for joining me in #PotterADay!!! It's been better than I even imagined to reread my favorite series with friends. You make every day happier and brighter. Thank you so much! ✨
Here's the schedule for Prisoner of Azkaban; we start Monday! I'm also doing a rewatch over the weekend of Chamber of Secrets if you're interested. Same deal as last time: watch Saturday, discuss Sunday. Thanks again!
Oh, how I love Dobby!
So excellent, once again. The illustrations really gave me a different experience though. I thought a whole lot more about magical creatures seeing them in front of me. Aragog though, and that Basilisk! Made the slugs look like child's play. Jim Kay is a genius!
Thanks to everyone for reading along! I'm seriously having so much fun with this. We'll start Book 3 Monday! I'll post a schedule soon. ⚡💕✨
I'm behind! Got a bit distracted with other reading, and at the climax of all places. But I'm back just in time though!
Tom Riddle is super creepy here. He always underestimates Dumbledore though. Needs to learn from that.
“Riddle began to laugh ... 'This is what Dumbledore sends his defender! A songbird and an old hat! Do you feel brave, Harry Potter? Do you feel safe now?'“
Myrtle blushes silver! Love that detail. #potteraday
“In the absence of his usually toothy grin he looked weak-chinned and weedy.“ Best description of Lockhart, ever.
I loved imagining Harry trying to speak parseltongue. Open, Harry says, checking with Ron, who hears him trying to hiss it out. Nope, you just spoke English, bro. 😂
I loved this chapter! There were just so many little things -- like them hiding in the cloak closet -- that I'd forgotten about. So glad we're doing this! #potteraday
Wow, that was excellent!!! Some of the stories dragged for me, but the title story was an amazing dystopia nightmare and each story had great writing and imagery. The Apple Tree was not my favorite, but I can still see that withered, haunting tree in my head! Same with Monté Verita. I need to go wander the mountains and get lost for a while now. 🐦 #lmpbc #groupq #pottersocks
Thanks for your patience, @JenLovesJT47! It'll be on it's way today. 💙
I forgot how charming that car plotline is. But the spiders!!! I did not need a full page illustration of their creepy hairyness, I really did not. I'd share a pic of it, but I like you guys. That would be rude. 😱 #potteraday
We're almost to the end of Book 2! Can't believe the time has flown so fast. Anyone up to another watch-along? I'll be screening Chamber of Secrets Saturday and posting discussion questions Sunday. Come join me!
If you're interested in more discussion, the Dear Mr. Potter podcast went in-depth into the first few books. I seriously LOVED it! The host is Scottish, if that helps. http://pointnorthmedia.com/podcasts/dear-mr-potter/
Cornelius Fudge! His name always makes me hungry. #potteraday
“Neville Longbottom had been sent letters from all the witches and wizards in his family, all giving him different advice on what to choose.“
It's a small detail, but I liked the reference to Neville's extended family. You get the impression that they're ashamed of him in parts, but they clearly all care. Also, there's something about a Wizarding extended family that sounds wonderful.
Poor Hermione! And she did all the hard parts so well.
Couldn't they have at least figured out where Slytherin common room was beforehand? Fifteen minutes is a lot of time to waste when you only have an hour. Harry does have an invisibility cloak.
My January wrap-up! Two of these were audiobooks, one graphic novel, two print and three e-books. My favorite was probably Truly Devious, with Such a Fun Age as a close second! (Sorcerer's Stone is, of course, a perennial fav.) 💙
#januaryreads #monthlywrapup #bujo
Catching up from yesterday! Poor Harry, he really can't catch a break. Hufflepuffs don't look too great in this chapter.
I love the scene with Goyle's Swelling Solution exploding. I completely forgot about this. It would be an amazing fan video!! I want to see Draco's nose swelling so big he can't hold his head up so badly.
And a Blood-Suckin' Bugbear? I don't remember that from Fantastic Beasts. I want details, and drawings!
“It's got bits of Slytherin in it? You've got to be joking.“ Love Ron! 😂
Another action-packed chapter! I'm charmed by Dobby now, but Harry must be so upset. I know I found Dobby super annoying the first time through. Now I can't imagine not loving him! #potteraday
Oh my gosh, I love Sam!!! And Tolkien! I can't believe it took me this long to hop on the LOTR bandwagon. I liked Hobbit a lot -- especially because I got to reminisce with some of the characters in Fellowship -- but I definitely got into this one more. On to book two! (Or three, depending on how you're counting.) Hopefully I'll be caught up to #lotrchapteraday soon! 😁 #fellowshipoftolkien #classicschallenge2020 #mounttbr
I never realized that Filch had an actual reason to blame Harry, other than he's just a mean old caretaker and Harry was found at the scene of the crime. He thought Harry killed his cat because he found out he was a squib. Poor Filch.
More thoughts below...spoiler alert for anyone reading for the first time.
“They looked back. Dark yawned the archway of the Gates under the mountain-shadow. Faint and far beneath the earth rolled the slow drumbeats: Doom. A thin black smoke trailed out. Nothing else was to be seen; ... Grief at last wholly overcame them, and they wept long.“ 😢
What is Tolkien trying to do, break my heart??? If I wasn't already a bit plot spoiled, I'd be bawling right now!
