Marmee: A Novel | Sarah Miller

This book was so good! I liked it better than “Little Women”!

Death in Kew Gardens | Jennifer Ashley

At this stage in my reading life, I love books with strong characters that I just love spending time with. Jennifer Ashley's Kat Halloway series certainly fits that bill!

The Last Bookshop in London | Madeline Martin

This was such a good book! With heart wrenching details about the London Blitz but also wonderfully-written characters that you truly come to care about, this one was a win all around.

The end of the book will have you rushing out to get the next one in the series. You‘ve been warned! 😂 #middlegradereads #toppicks

It‘s nice to read a dog book where the emphasis is on all dogs being individuals. One thing won‘t work for every dog, and other Mark Bekoff appreciates this.

Murder Most Fair | Anna Lee Huber

The mystery is only part of the story here. Anna Lee Huber‘s description of Verity‘s attempts to come to terms with her brother‘s death during the war is the true star of this book!

I don‘t necessarily like murder mysteries, but this series is strong because of the two main characters. I can‘t stop reading them!

Does anyone else continue to read something they otherwise wouldn‘t just because it has that wonderful “old book smell”? Tell me I‘m not the only one! 😂

I don‘t generally like contemporary books and certainly not travelogues but, man, can this Nathaniel Philbrick tell a story!

A good conclusion to the trilogy. Everything may have wrapped up a bit too neatly, but I prefer when that happens! 😉

The Conductors | Nicole Glover

I'm finding the magic part of this confusing but I can't stop reading because the writing and story are so strong!

blurb

I cannot read this book. First chapter and "free" children being taking off the streets of New York to be sold into slavery. I'm in tears at the helplessness and cruelty of it all. Great writing but I'm just unable to go on with it.

This book was an eye-opening look as I try to learn how to live with this crazy fella. It's better than any mere training book and I would even go so far as to call it a must read if you share your like with a dog.
(Yes, he's digging a hole. No, he's not sorry. 😂)

Stefano Mancuso has a wonderful way of making the science of plants easy for the layperson to understand, but it's not on display in this book as much as his others. I definitely recommend his Brilliant Green or The Incredible Journey of Plants instead.
