Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #firestarter

Bookwormjillk I loved this one as a teen. I used to sit with my friend Amy trying to set things on fire with our minds for hours. It was the super power I most wanted to have when I was about 13. I still liked it on this re-read, but I thought the middle dragged a bit. Not a bad ending for King.

Also I think the first season of Stranger Things owes this book a lot!

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk yes, I found it a similar premise to ST. I loved the story and characters. I found it quite gripping in places. 4d

5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk yes! I thought it ended solidly, which he sometimes just doesn‘t do lol Agree about Stranger Things too. 4d
5feet.of.fury It‘s kind of smack between Carrie and The Institute both plotwise and character/scifi focussed. This was my first read of it, I just think it‘s neat 4d
ElizaMarie Wasn't able to re-read this one - I really need to organize my reading room - I know I had a copy of it somewhere! Anyway, I remember loving this one when I first read it, and as a fellow #KingGirlie I did the same @BookwormJillK 3d
bekakins Totally agree with the comments ref ST. This is one of my absolute favourites. 3d
kwmg40 Still waiting for a library loan, but I will get to this one eventually! 2d
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury I found I liked this more than Carrie. I don't remember The Institute enough to compare. But, yes, it was just really neat. As much as I love when he takes the time to build a town and it's inhabitants, with this and The Shining, I'm liking his more narrowly focused stories. 7h
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude the Institute was pretty much Stranger Things and you got the backstory on the whole town 😂 7h
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude 💯 they both have their pros and cons. This is one of my faves for sure 7h

BookmarkTavern A small group of individuals believing they‘ve been deprived of what‘s rightfully due them decide to put a puppet leader in charge to control, only to end up with a narcissistic, greedy, destructive force intent on sowing fear and chaos around him? Gee, I wonder how relevant that story could be? 😅😅 I can‘t believe this was written over thirty years ago. 4w
willaful @BookmarkTavern I know, Terry Pratchett wouldn't be surprised by anything.

I think I enjoyed this more than I remember doing so when I first read it. It was fun to see the Watch becoming a real force for good.

julesG @BookmarkTavern 🤣🤣🤣 he nailed it. 4w
julesG @willaful I agree, I enjoyed it a lot more this time. Maybe because I'm older/wiser and have seen a few things happening. 4w
BarbaraJean This is my first time reading the Watch novels! Having seen Vimes (and the Watch) now in other novels, I was surprised to find him in the gutter at the beginning here! It was so fascinating to see the origins of characters I‘d enjoyed later glimpses of elsewhere. @BookmarkTavern 😂😂😭 4w
AlaMich The audio version of this has been so delightful!! It‘s adding considerably to my enjoyment. 4w
julesG @AlaMich Which version did you listen to? Stephen Briggs, Tony Robinson, or Jon Culshaw with Peter Serafinowicz and Bill Nighy? 4w
AlaMich @julesG The last one. I didn‘t realize there were three audio versions. 4w
BookmarkTavern @BarbaraJean Vimes‘s character arc is one of my all time favorites. 4w
julesG @AlaMich that's the one I haven't listened to yet. Stephen Briggs' narration is the 'original' one. The one with Culshaw is relatively new. 4w
AlaMich @julesG He‘s so good! 4w
kwmg40 I'm rather late to the discussion, but I did enjoy my reread of this book. I loved Errol the dragon! 3w
julesG @kwmg40 You can join at any time. Errol, eater of kettles. 🤣 3w

Bookwormjillk I‘m still working on The Dark Half which I read accidentally last month. Then I have the new one and this which both came in from the library at the same time. It‘s going to be a King filled month. Not complaining because to me Stephen King=Summer reading. 1mo
bekakins This is one of my absolute faves! I used to have a hardback omnibus of The Eyes of the Dragon & Firestarter and it was proper comfort reading for me whenever I was off sick from school 1mo

JessClark78 I just finished The Stand. I‘ll catch up this month. 1mo
BarkingMadRead @JessClark78 I am still reading the Stand 🙈 it‘s a reread of a reread of a reread times 100 for me so I‘ve been reading a chapter a day 🤣 1mo
