So Thirsty | Rachel Harrison
40 posts | 23 read | 21 to read
A woman must learn to take life by the throat after a night out leads to irrevocable changes in this juicy, thrilling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep. Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesnt need a reminder shes getting older, or that shes feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getawaynot with him, but with Sloanes longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues shed rather not confront, like her husbands repeated infidelity. But when they arrive at their rental cottage, it becomes clear Naomi has something else in mind. She wants Sloane to stop letting things happen to her, for Sloane to really live. So Naomi orchestrates a wild night out with a group of mysterious strangers, only for it to take a horrifying turn that changes Sloanes and Naomis lives literally forever. The friends are forced to come to terms with some pretty eternal consequences in this bloody, seductive novel about how its never too late to find satisfaction, even though it might taste different than expected.

I enjoyed this ode to female friendship and empowerment. Sloane leads a life in which she allows herself to be drained, what will she make of her own thirst? I can‘t say that much about this story will stick with me, but it was perfect for spooky szn. The audio was impressive! 3.5 ⭐️ 🎧

This was a low pick for me. I didn't always understand why Sloane and Naomi were best friends. And I wanted more interaction with the vampire group and not Noami and Sloane off by themselves. But I do like these types of wandering vampires and Sloane's own inner fight on who she wants to be. It was a fast read and interesting violent world.

A super fun Halloween read. This isn‘t the life of the vampires you know. This is a thrilling experience from start to finish where the main characters have to figure out their path and the sacrifice that comes with the one you love. Definitely a pick!

Bailedbailed

#UnpopularOpinion : I had to bail on this about halfway through. Not because of the lite horror…I was fine with that. I could not stand Naomi. She grated on me, and maybe that‘s because I am more of a Sloane and am not a free spirit. But, I decided to end listening to this when Naomi did one more reckless thing.

I can see why there are raves about this book and the discussion of the bond of female friendship. It‘s just not for me.

Angeles I am sorry to hear it is not a great book, it is in my TBR list and I generally like most of the books you recommend and agree with a lot of your criticisms; so I will just borrow this one from the library 😀 thank you for the heads up! 3w
Librarybelle @Angeles I did listen to this one, and the voice actress portrayed Naomi as a very care free person. It was a good portrayal, but that may have added to my overall feeling of the book. I think everyone else has loved this, but it is probably good to borrow this from the library. And thanks for the nice words! ❤️ 3w

I wouldn‘t usually relax into #HyggeHour with a horror book but I find this author more about the black humor than scares & I want to start it for #HauntedShelf

I wanted to give this a pick, but it‘s a close So-so. This story of two best friends who have a far too wild girls night has a lot of possibility. However, it‘s a light horror that can‘t quite decide what it wants to be. I wish it focused more on the female friendship-that is when it‘s strongest. The characters just aren‘t quite fully developed but it was a quick easy read. 3⭐️

I picked this back up, and at first, it was slow going. I read it with a friend, which got me through. Once the action started, I went full steam ahead and finished it that day. I like the themes and the oddly matched cast of characters.

I LOVED this!!! I was so surprised by how much I was invested in the story and the friendship at the heart of it. And there are vampires!! What more could you ask for? While the horror aspect really drew my attention the personal struggles of the main character had such a good message by the end that I forgot I was even reading a “scary story”. Highly recommend!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 #skeletoncrew #hauntedshelf

I could not put this down. I loved so much about this. I loved the strong female characters and the fact that this really centered on friendship. I generally love a good vampire story and this was so good. It was kinda creepy, a little gory, but also fun. The women were relatable. They were just like you and me. And the ending was just so good. If not 5 stars, close enough to give it 5 for me. Loved this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lot of this really spoke to me and it was so readable - I easily could have devoured more pages of this story. I would have liked if the romance was more developed and less insta-lovey, but on the other hand, it wasn‘t really about the romance - it was more about Sloane‘s friendship with Naomi, and even more importantly, her relationship with herself. This book caresses your throat; Rachel Harrison once again leaves her mark.

ICantImReading Looking forward to discussing this with the #sothirstyreadalong! Thanks again, @MaleficentBookDragon! 4w

Rachel Harrison is quickly becoming one of my auto-buy authors. And So Thirsty did not let me down. She took a classic vampire story and turned it into something completely new. I don‘t know how she makes her books horrifying, cozy, and empowering all at the same time but I‘m here for it.

My third book by this author and all have been very firmly in the horror-lite category, with a little bit of camp and a lot of dark humor. I liked this one more than the others. Sloane and BFF Naomi go on a girls‘ trip for Sloane‘s birthday when things escalate and they are turned to vampires. Most of the story involves Sloane learning to lean-in to life in practically every way, with Naomi‘s help. I liked her growth into a more confident Sloane.

3.5⭐Light Pick
⬗ While it was an interesting enough take on vampires; it was also forgettable. I keep thinking that I‘ll like this authors books because I loved Such Sharp Teeth but unfortunately all the others haven‘t really impressed me much.
⬗ At least it was narrated by my fav narrator, Brittany Pressley

ShyBookOwl I completely agree. A soft pick for me. I actually adore all of her other books, but this one just didn't hold the same magic for me. I just really didn't find the characters interesting enough to care about, and not enough mystery (which her books are generally pretty good for). Do love that narrator! My fave is still Black Sheep but Such Sharp Teeth is a close second! 2mo
AudiobookingWithLeah Black Sheep didn't impress me either...nor did Cackle. But I loved Such Sharp Teeth, it was one my favs last year. 1mo

Centique So heres a fun fact - a few years ago i did a UK online writing course and Anna Downes was in my group and after the course she asked me (and probably some others) to beta read her first novel before she sent it off to publishers. Her writing was leaps ahead of the rest of us - helped me to realise that i just dont have that level of skill - which was actually a good realisation! 2mo
Megabooks @Centique wow! I‘m about halfway through and it‘s really good! Sometimes it‘s good to readjust goals in life, but I hope you still enjoyed the course. I don‘t think I‘m cut out to write fiction either. 2mo
