Definitely a good one for the fall season. All of them just a bit creepy that leave you feeling unsettled in an interesting way. I love her writing style. I wouldn‘t say I necessarily enjoyed the characters or plot of the stories as much as the style and feel.

I just read Rebecca and gave it five stars. When I learned The Birds was also by Daphne du Maurier I decided to read it in October as well. It is set in December but makes a superb spooky season read. I am not going to read the other short stories in the collection right now, back to my previously planned tbr. I have not seen the movie but understand it is very different. #scarathlon

3 #birdonthecover books I‘ve read - I like how the black birds spell out the word ‘birds‘ 🦅
#falltreasures @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Watched the classic The Birds today. I never knew it was based on a short story by Daphne Du Maurier. Did you? 🙈

I wish my library had the entire book available, but at least they had these two options.
The Birds was an excellent short story and I definitely want to rewatch the film now. 💚
Don't Look Now had Maurier's beautifully gothic writing style, but I didn't find myself loving it as much as previous writings.
#AuthorAMonth2021 @Soubhiville

The Birds is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies, so of course I had to read the original short story that inspired it. I enjoyed the original story but understand why Hitch made the changes he did. As for the rest of the stories, I enjoyed all of them with the exception of the final story in the book. Still an enjoyable read and Du Maurier is quite the story teller. #AuthorAMonth #BookSpinBingo

This was a great bunch of short stories. Loved them all, and was surprised to find several I enjoyed more than The Birds. So glad to have read this one!
#authoramonth

This was good. The stories themselves are pretty great. The #audiobook was just ok. The Birds is interesting in the fact that such a fairly simple story inspired such a well known Hitchcock film.

I enjoyed reading The Birds for #AuthorAMonth even though I'm not really a fan of short stories, but I remember watching this movie years and years ago. As usual with short stories, I wanted this story to continue. I probably won't read any of the other stories in the book because, well, not a fan of short stories. 😂

Posting my first few reviews for #AAM2021 @Soubhiville and for #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks This was a rather short audio production of this story but entertaining. I knew what to expect bc I‘ve seen the Hitchcock film several times.

This was an interesting short story/BBC radio drama. I definitely got the feeling the birds symbolized the trauma a lot of Brits had after the Battle of Britain. The way this was directed, the birds seemed to symbolize the continued fear of invasion. 🤷🏻♀️ my two cents!
My library didn‘t have much in the way of Du Maurier other than Rebecca, which had double-digit holds on all copies! Glad I was able to read this short story for #aam!

A moment alone to cheat & start my #authoramonth for March. Such a simple 1st story but so memorable. Would‘ve been much more effective if it was about our beautiful yet feral sounding Aussie birds instead of gulls etc. I remember the 1st time I travelled overseas thinking birds really can sound like they do in the movies! Had a big day today looking after my niece Sybil,1 & nephew Ted, 3 while their mum, my sister & dad attend a wedding at Uluru.

I just discovered this series, Seth's A Ghost Story for Christmas, and now I must find them all! 😍 I love the idea of reading ghost stories around Christmas time and I adore little books! This will be my first Daphne Du Maurier book and definitely not the last. 😁

This book collects some short stories by Daphne Du Maurier, starting with the famous “The Birds“.
I'm happy to have finally read the original, which differs from the Hitchcock movie, but in a good way. I think Hitchcock made a good call in just taking the happening and not making a whole movie out of a short stories.
The other texts were very interesting to read as well.

The Birds is one of my absolute favorite movies, so I was happy to get this for the #LMPBC — in my personal opinion, all of these short stories are very well-written, with The Birds being the best. And the ending to the last story blew my mind! I‘m looking forward to reading more of her books now. 4.5⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Apocalypse, cults, revenge and murder; this is a wonderful collection of sinister stories. I thought the Hitchcock film of the birds was frightening, the story is so much more bleak and tragic.

I received this from @Linsy for the #LMPBC for #GroupQ !! Thank you so much for the beautiful bird postcards! 🤗
I am SO excited to read this because The Birds is in my top 5 of absolute favorite movies and I‘m not sure how I‘ve gone so long without reading the book! I know what I‘ll be doing as soon as I finish this! 🎟🎭

Wow, that was excellent!!! Some of the stories dragged for me, but the title story was an amazing dystopia nightmare and each story had great writing and imagery. The Apple Tree was not my favorite, but I can still see that withered, haunting tree in my head! Same with Monté Verita. I need to go wander the mountains and get lost for a while now. 🐦 #lmpbc #groupq #pottersocks
Thanks for your patience, @JenLovesJT47! It'll be on it's way today. 💙

I got this weeks ago, but have been so behind. Thanks for sending it @Bookwormjillk! I'm excited to read it this week. 🐦
@JenlovesJT47, I have been so unforgivably slow in getting The Gift of the Magi to you. I'm so sorry!! January flew by. It should be arriving today!

A fantastic story laced with irony, sadness, and retribution!

#WinterGames #MerryReaders #HolidayRead - Thank you @LeahBergen for this eerie and uncanny story, I loved it. I have only read Rebecca before, but I definitely want to read more Du Maurier now.

Thank you Leah for gifting me my first Jolabokaflod present ever! Rebecca is one of my favorites so I can‘t wait to dive into this! Happy Holidays!

The timing of these sweet gifts couldn‘t have been more perfect! Thank you, Sue for the lovely card. And thank you, Leah for the beautiful book and treats. You are both in my thoughts often. Merry Christmas, my thoughtful friends! I am so very grateful to you both!

#Jolabokaflod @LeahBergen thank you so much for my Jolabokaflod gifts. Merry Christmas, happy reading ♥️

Most of the stories in this book were winners for me. du Maurier knows how to write short stories that feel like full length novels. Thanks @shadowspeak17 for sending it. @Linsy it will be coming your way early next week. #LMPBC #GroupQ #elfies #WinterGames

We are definitely getting in the Christmas spirit over here! I am so excited about my new book, which my husband and I plan to read together on Christmas Eve! Have you read this one?

Got it yesterday @shadowspeak17
Looking forward to it!

I thought three of the six stories in this collection were great, but the other three didn‘t do much for me.
@Bookwormjillk this is on the way to you! I‘ll email you the tracking number shortly. I‘m looking forward to seeing what you all think!

2. Evening
3. Mark Z. Danielewski... He‘s actually the only author I‘m following at the moment.

Well, this was a rare occurrence. Both of my little nuggets decided to sit with me while I read tonight. ❤️

What do you guys think of these? I wasn‘t sure if you all would want to read any short story collections since they‘re a little longer and we‘re doing “quick reads,” so I included a few in case you guys are interested, but if not, that‘s cool too. 😊 #GroupQ #lmpbc

As spooky as I can handle. My mother was deathly afraid of birds because she was attacked by blue jays once and because she watched the movie when she was young. I couldn't help to call Mom just now and tell her that I bought a book for her. She was not enthusiastic about the gift.
An excellent book, intricate stories, tragic characters and beautifully crafted sentences. Being a huge fan of Daphne du Maurier, I found this book only made me want to read more of her work.
“Nat listened to the tearing sound of splintering wood, and wondered how many million years of memory were stored in those little brains, behind the stabbing beaks, the piercing eyes, now giving them this instinct to destroy mankind with all the deft precision of machines.“
There's no such thing as too much of Daphne du Maurier.

September goals. Also adding to the mix ‘Just Mercy‘ by Bryan Stevenson as a buddy read with my super fabulous #LitsyPenpal! I‘ve been in a reading slump as of late so wish me luck! 📚📚🥰

I was surprised, when I read this, how different the film was to the story. While the film is a classic, I felt the book was much better.

Apparently Daphne du Maurier ‘hated Alfred Hitchcock's adaptation of her story The Birds.‘ 🤷♀️

Birthday presents from my wonderful children. They even managed the right edition for the Birds. I like Virago for Daphne du Maurier. (I suspect they had some help from their father. 😉)
Seriously though, check out how the title is done! 😍
The PS3 game is not book related (as far as I know), but the animations are by Studio Ghibli! 🤩
