Hercule Poirot's Christmas
Hercule Poirot's Christmas | Agatha Christie
107 posts | 115 read | 1 reading | 66 to read
It is Christmas Eve. The Lee family reunion is shattered when the tyrannical Simeon Lee is found dead in a pool of blood, his throat slashed. When Hercule Poirot offers to assist, he finds an atmosphere not of mourning but of mutual suspicion. It seems everyone had their own reason to hate the old man.

Lastly, Bk3 of today‘s #BookHaul is another Special Edition Dame Agatha. I‘m really hoping they release all her catalogue in these issues, I‘m loving them. The red foiling is fabulous! Poirot is called in to investigate after the cantankerous patriarch of a wealthy family is found murdered inside his locked bedroom on Xmas Eve. Finding no shortage of suspects in the mans family, Poirot has his work cut out for him finding the guilty party.

I decided to start this book this afternoon, and I have gotten absolutely nothing done since then. I had to finish it! I haven‘t gotten sucked into a book that fast in awhile. Dame Agatha is hands down the queen of whodunnits! If you like murder mysteries, I‘d highly recommend this. 5⭐️

“Who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?”

Simeon Lee brings his four sons, three daughters in law, one granddaughter, and one son of a friend together for a reunion and Christie-staple changing of the will. All are at each other‘s throats, until Christmas Eve when Simeon is found dead, his own throat cut. Alone. In a locked room.

One of my favorites of Christie‘s as I couldn‘t predict anything for the end! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Highly satisfying account of a puzzling Christmas Eve murder, where everyone has a motive but the evidence points nowhere. Naturally Poirot reveals the truth using his “little grey cells” and a careful study of the victim‘s psychology. Nobody does it like Dame Agatha!

Note, this was made into a TV episode starring David Suchet as Poirot

Bk1 of my #WinterGames is finished for #TeamNutcracker🥜 It‘s a reread of one of Dame Agathas bloodier novels, she normally loves her poisons but this is a rare violent death. Simeon Lee is a very rich old man, he‘s also a very diabolical man who calls his adult children to his side for Xmas, not for love but to play with them like a cat with a mouse. Until he‘s found dead with his throat cut on Xmas Eve. 21pts + 10pts from games #PointsTotal-66

This one really didn‘t flow very well for me, the descriptions were a bit heavy handed (which is not at all my recollection of AC‘s writing) and the actual murder is about 100 pages in (maybe I‘m just bloodthirsty?!) and Poirot turns up a little after that - the reveal however was excellent and completely unexpected to me (the clues were there tho!)

Bit of a struggle so far. No Poirot on the scene yet and the description have me like 🤨🤨🤨

Stephen thought with revulsion

And then, suddenly, he caught his breath, looking into a carriage. THIS GIRL WAS DIFFERENT. 🤔😬

She was splendid, fine, exotic... 😐

It was suddenly cruel, that mouth. Cruel and greedy - like the mouth of a child or kitten - a mouth that knew only it‘s own desires and was as yet unaware of pity.

TOTALLY A MEET CUTE ??

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Hmmm, I agree... a twisted one with an archenemy maybe.🤷‍♀️ 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Riveted_Reader_Melissa, have you read it? Because they are strangers on a train who just so happen to end up at same family gathering where the patriarch is murdered. She, a long lost and penniless granddaughter and he, the son of the man the grandfather ruined... at this point I‘ll be somewhat disappointed if they aren‘t engaged by the end 😂🙄 2mo

It has been some time since I read this one, as it isn‘t one of my favorites- but ‘tis the season!

A sad family of brothers, governed by a selfish, ruthless, and now infirm, father. The father gathers them all for Christmas, ostensibly to set aside differences, but in reality to entertain himself by fomenting strife.

He ends up dead.

The locked room aspect of this one is great!

Gissy I enjoyed this one. It is sad those family issues due to money business. But that father was not a beloved one. He was terrible as a person! 12mo

Just finished this great mystery by Agatha Christie. 😊 I really loved that one and I am really happy to choose this one as my last #litsyclassics . I loved the story, the characters and the way Poirot points out which mistakes the murderer made and how Poirot discovered what had happened. Still not my favourite one, but a really good one.

After reading 25 classics before this one, I am happy, that I could deal with this classic since ⬇️

Sarah83 I had some problems with other classics. Hope you guys, who joined #litsyclassics and even if you didn't finish the challenge this year, discovered new 'old' authors and found out, that not all classics are boring. Hope you liked the challenge as much as I did and you will read some more classics next year. 😍🤩 13mo

A festive holiday read! I thought it would be amusing to pick a nice bloody murder (Agatha dedicates this one to a friend who wanted more blood in contrast to her usual civilized murders 😹) to get in the holiday spirit - but the way it all wraps up neatly, it really is a nice comfy read! Plus, Poirot calling all of his suspects stupid in his wrap-up? =
A priceless holiday gift 🎁

I can't be objective in Agatha Christie books.I love these stories.Poirot is asked to collaborate in a case where an old man, terrible in his character was murdered in Christmas Eve.Was money the motive or it was a revenge act?Everything pointed to one of the family members.Funny and with that sarcastic humor. There are some predictable scenes. How murder was committed was not 100% clear but I can re-read book some day. 3.7⭐️for me.Swaps items here!

“Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?”

This Christmas season has not been jolly for the Lees. It got worse when the old master Simeon Lee was brutally murdered. In his own bedroom. Locked from the inside.

An entertaining seasonal read with lots of red herrings to keep you guessing till the end. Poirot is in his great form and amusing. 👍

And my final read for 2017 is Hercule Poirot's Christmas because you really can't go wrong when it comes to Agatha Christie! The twist at the end wasn't completely unexpected for me, there were so many possible suspects that it kept me guessing. The story happens during a Christmas gathering, but otherwise there's not much of a Christmas vibe, so feel free to read it even if it's not the holiday season!

Meeeehhhhh. I dunno, it was okay. I recently read a couple Miss Marple books, and a lot of these characters seem the same, just plopped down in yet another book. I guess that‘s bound to happen when you write as many books as Christie did, but I hope the next book of her‘s I read has a little more variety. And one part of the “twist” didn‘t really work for be because I had no idea what they were talking about. #11thHourReadathon
