The Dead Romantics
The Dead Romantics | Ashley Poston
A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston. Florence Day is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, and she has a problemafter a terrible breakup, she no longer believes in love. Its as good as dead. When her new editor, a too-handsome mountain of a man, won't give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye. But then she gets a phone call she never wanted to receive, and she must return home for the first time in a decade to help her family bury her beloved father. For ten years, she's run from the town that never understood her, and even though she misses the sound of a warm Southern night and her eccentric, loving family and their funeral parlor, she cant bring herself to stay. Even with her father gone, it feels like nothing in this town has changed. And she hates it. Until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlors front door, just as broad and infuriatingly handsome as ever, and hes just as confused about why hes there as she is. Romance is most certainly dead . . . but so is her new editor, and his unfinished business will have her second-guessing everything shes ever known about love stories.

This premise was normally outside of my normal genre and the 2nd paranormal romance I've read. It consistently stayed a 3 star for me until the last 30 pages when I felt I could exhale the breath I didn't know I was holding and got the extra star.

I really loved this book! It‘s definitely one of my favorites I‘ve read this year. I loved the story and the romance! I follow the celebrity books clubs every month so I‘m really glad it was a GMA book club pick!

A singular romance, quite unlike any I‘ve ever read! A chaotic ghostwriter and a refined editor from a prestigious romance imprint . . . discover once and for all of romance is dead. A true delight! #happyendingsbookclub #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #romantsy

(I'm back here after a year!)
The Dead Romantics is a swoony, heartfelt, wholesome, and unique romance story.
Poston does a fab job of writing the literary world of Florence who is a ghostwriter and Benji, her editor, with nods to the Greats of the romance world.
The romance, the pining, the slow-burn were perfect.
I loved everything about it, but I'm particularly in awe of the storytelling. Many people write books, but few are great storytellers.

I was not looking forward to this book. I need to read 2 romances for my genre fiction class. I used to ❤️ romances in my teens and twenties but haven‘t read one in about 20 years. So a contemporary meet cute was not on my #TBR,
This was a delightful surprise. I found myself flagging lines. I may be a convert.
At p170 I had that aha moment when I realized how this was going to have a happy ending, but there were still a surprise or 2 for me. 👍🏻

Ruthiella I love happy surprises like that. It reminds me why it‘s usually a good idea to challenge oneself from time to time! 2w

I‘m still not 💯 % on board with romances right now, but I‘ve already loved a bunch of lines.

Avanders Hiya lady - just checking in before the deadline is up (tonight) in case you did want to sign up for #fffs (no pressure if you‘re not feelin‘ it this year!) 😘 2w

This book is just adorable. Quirky, funny, and romantic, with the cutest kind of spookiness and just enough spice. Loved the characters (especially Florence), loved the settings, and I always seem to enjoy books about books and bookish people. Great narration on audio. ❤️

This is a cute story, and Florence Day must have been a fun character to develop. She returns to her small hometown from NYC making it almost perfect for a Hallmark Mystery movie. She sees dead people and ironically works as a ghost writer. There‘s an ex to dislike, a family to love, a ghost seemingly gone to soon, a nod to the gay community, and references to all sorts of authors. It‘s a super easy read that‘s good for the pallet.

#LMPBC #GroupF I'm so excited for this next round! Fantasy and romance are my two favorite genres. Here's a few from my TBR that fall into both categories. How do we feel about any of these?

A cute supernatural romance novel about a struggling ghostwriter returning home for her father's funeral and finding that her new (all too handsom) editor has come to her as a ghost. It dragged on a bit at times, particularly the beginning and ending, but once I got into the story I really enjoyed it.
