I always loved the movie and didn‘t know it was based on a book. Once I discovered this, I borrowed the audio version from Borrowbox with my library card.

This was one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. There was a main narrator, and every character had their own voice. The story was as magical as I remember. It is a perfect modern fairy tale that will be loved for many years to come.

Ending 2023 Reading Season with a 5 star read!

I savored this one slowly over several days. Ultimately I did binge the last 130 pages tonight to be done with 2023 reads.

I own this book and have been trying to get my owned books down to one bookcase-but this is a keeper and something I'm going to want to come back to and enjoy.

kaysworld1 Have you seen the film? I loved it so funny. 2mo

I like fairytales and I like books written that way so I decided to look up book recommendations for those type of books. I‘m reading Stardust right now and enjoying it. I‘ve read Cinder, The Little Prince, The Graveyard Book and The Tales Of Beedle The Bard and I enjoyed them. Fairytales are fun to read. It looks like I have a lot of options to choose from.

I just started this book. I listened to the first 2 chapters and I like it so far. It feels like I‘m listening to a fairytale. I like fairytales and I like books that are written that way too. I haven‘t read very many books like that. The only book I‘ve read that was written that way was The Girl Who Drank The Moon and I enjoyed that book.

For my book club that only has me and 1 person in it, I chose Stardust by Neil Gaiman. This sounds like an interesting book. I‘ve heard this book described as being a fairytale for adults. I like fairytales and I feel like I can‘t go wrong with Neil Gaiman. I read a Neil Gaiman book in October. If I don‘t choose good books for my club then it‘s on me because I‘m the one choosing the books.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) I started this book club in September. It‘s now the third month of my book club and I don‘t know if I should keep it going or not. I‘ve only had 1 person join my club and when I promoted my book club on social media, I didn‘t get any new members so I don‘t think people are interested in joining but you never know. I‘ve never had a book club before. 5mo

I saw this quote today on IG- and just wanted to share. Art, Music, Literature, these are not splurges. They are necessary and you are my people who know this too. Sometimes I meet people who do not like to read and my heart breaks a little inside. What a cruelty that someone turned reading into a chore instead of a joy.

Abort! Abort! Neil Gaiman was in St Louis accepting the St . Louis Literary Award and my family attended. Stardust works because he was in St Louis approximately 24 yrs ago {23.5 per my daughter} for the graphic novel adaption of Stardust and my husband interviewed him at the time. It was televised: https://hecmedia.org/posts/neil-gaimans-inspiring-st-louis-literary-award-accept... Also a writers craft talk if you search his name.

E.Bolhafner the award was presented on April 13th I wasn't being on here at the time but figured Neil Gaiman fans might be interested in seeing him speak :-)

This has all the best fairytale elements-adventure, witches, ghosts, danger, a quest, revenge, you name it. Gaiman excels at telling an engrossing story. My attention did flag a bit in the middle, but the ending was just lovely and perfect. I love when Neil Gaiman narrates his books. He‘s got a perfect voice for storytelling and Stardust, as a fairytale for adults, is a perfect story for his narrative style.

Sometimes you just want to revisit a story and this was one that I‘ve loved for a long time. I decided to listen to this one on audio, read by the author Neil Gaiman. What a pleasure to return to this world in the author‘s own voice. To listen to this story that so clearly comes from his heart added an emotional layer that drew me in even further than ever before.

This book started out like a lion, but ended as a lamb. Gaiman set up this fantasy world well, but the character development and relationships fell short and the story lost its allure by the end. This is a rare occasion where I prefer the film over the book.

This was just so pretty.
Sandman on Netflix and Neil owning people on twitter has made me realize lately that I should have gotten in on Neil Gaiman earlier. His audio books are great, he‘s always so good at doing the voices.

🌠🌌 Told as a fairytale, a young man is pursuing his love proposes to her and they see a shooting star, he offers to find her the fallen star and in return she‘ll give him his heart‘s desire. Magic abounds on his quest.

tokorowilliamwallace I read this about a decade ago, but was never really inspired or interested to read more by him. But last year I found a mass market paperback edition of one of his short story collections at an Amtrak station I thought I could read on the train from northern Virginia to central Florida (I've only read his introduction so far). 2y

#BookReport - Solid week. I finished the checked books, plus the tagged book which I think may be hidden behind Wanderers in this photo haha Wanderers and Break-Up Book Club ended up DNFs for me this week, although I haven't decided if they are forever DNFs or temporary ones 😂 Currently reading The League of Gentlewomen Witches, which I'm hoping to finish today. Sacred Clowns was probably my favorite read of the week.
@Cinfhen

sherrisilvera I enjoyed Sacred Clowns also. You reminded me to look back at Hillerman. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @sherrisilvera - I'm working my way through the series quite slowly, but really enjoying these books a lot. I really like the contrast between Leaphorn and Chee and their life-perspectives and detective methods, how they are so different from each other yet both still bring a valuable perspective to the situation. 2y
sherrisilvera I had read only a few and so long ago. Have you tried the Longmire series? Those components are there as well. 2y

Reviewing this actually catches me up on reviews!!

This was a #Roll100 pick from April that I finally got around to. This was an engaging fairy tale that I enjoyed overall, but somehow didn't love the way I wanted to. Gaiman's writing is quite good and I actually did like the ending, but I found it difficult to connect to the characters. Still, a solid pick

I actually received this back in December 2020 for the #ElfSwap from @LibrarianRyan !!

Chelsea.Poole @TheAromaofBooks same here! I planted some last year and seeing a bit of expansion in them this year, which I love! 2y
LibrarianRyan I get that. I am not the biggest fan of Gaiman. I always want to love his books, but just like them. But I love this movie? 2y
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - This is only the second Gaiman book I've read. The first was a picture book/short story, The Sleeper & the Spindle, which I didn't care for at all. He may just not be for me haha I may have to find the movie for Stardust, though, because I really did like the overall story/concept. 2y
LibrarianRyan @TheAromaofBooks The movie was fantastic. I read the book after I had seen the movie. I also read the Graveyard book and still don't get the fanfare, and i agre about the Sleeper and the Spindle. I tried the Ocean at the end of the lane in audiobook, nope. Boring. But the Movie that goes with stardust is so fun. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - I definitely have some authors where I love their ideas/concepts more than their actual books, and Gaiman may be one of those. I had forgotten that I also read the Graveyard Book until you mentioned it as it was quite long ago, but I was rather ambivalent towards it at the time as well. 2y

I‘d recommend it to fans of The Princess Bride, dark fairy tales, or anyone looking to try a Gaiman novel. The story comes full circle in a wonderfully satisfying way. The characters are feisty, the lessons are good ones and it‘s a quick read.
