I had been putting off reading this series but I decided to give it a go and I was surprised. The writing was exactly what I expect from Anne Rice but why is the free tree a wreath lol. I don‘t know If I will read the last book right away or if I‘ll wait til spooky season is really underway. #spookyseason #annerice #witches

DrSabrinaMoldenReads I want to read this series too. 1w
TheBookbabeblog84 @DrSabrinaMoldenReads you definitely should. Anne Rice is an Amazing author and it‘s definitely worth the read. I do think this book was better than the first though. 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I read the Witches series and then visited her home in New Orleans. I have been intrigued by her for a while. I can hardly believe she has passed away. 6d

I think I expected this book to be more typical romance and/or horror. It wasn‘t that, but it was all the better for it. The characterizations were complex, plot slow at points but ultimately impactful, richly depicted settings, with a dash of the philosophical. I enjoyed it immensely.

I read this series as a teenager and remembered that this was my least favorite. Holds true. Lestat is impossible. His lack of impulse control is ridiculous and not at all charming. The rape scene of his first foray into sex as a human again was awful. And then he basically did the vampire version of that at the end by making David Talbot a vampire without consent. His remorse after each was laughable. Completely led by his emotions.

Started re-reading Interview with the Vampire last night. Sometimes a re-read is the reset my brain needs to get out of a slump. I haven‘t read this in 20-ish years so I‘m curious how it‘s gonna hold up. Especially now that the TV series (a masterpiece) exists and improves on (while simultaneously respecting) the book. Who knows, maybe book Louis won‘t annoy me as much this time.😉 #CurrentlyReading

JessClark78 Rereads are great for getting out of slumps. 🙂 6mo
flying_monkeys @JessClark78 yep, has always seemed to work, but also depends on the book. And then sometimes I wind up re-reading a whole series because I chose the first book to help with a slump and I couldn‘t stop. lol 6mo
flying_monkeys Made it to page 100 🥳 And I quickly remembered why I used to refer to Anne Rice as a woman Stephen King: she‘s wordy af. 🙃 I forgot there aren‘t chapters and paragraphs go on for pages at a time. Can‘t believe I devoured this multiple times between ages 15-25. I miss my young brain. 6mo
