Ready to Time Travel ðŸ§

This is long and complicated. There are hundreds of characters, many of whom are very briefly in the story. So much of the travel seems unnecessary. There wasn‘t enough about the magic and way too much about the politics of the time. It just didn‘t work for me. Will I still read the final one? Yes. Will I ever re-read this? No.
I enjoyed my reread, but this is still my least favorite in the trilogy.
I thought this book was really clever. I loved the historical references (especially the School of Night. Lit nerd heaven!) and the juxtaposition of the story between 1590‘s Europe and the modern timeline. There are brand new characters and you meet some that were previously referenced. I wound up really loving a couple of characters that I didn‘t expect to like at all. I may have even liked this book more than the first one.
This is a reread for me. I‘m behind the readalong on Harkness‘s Facebook page, but I‘ll get caught up this weekend.

I didn't like this one as much as book one. I'll still get to the third eventually. I'm on the fence about trying the show.

I'm enjoying the series, despite the very meadering plot. There's a lot of good witch content in the second volume.

Looking forward to reading this one (thank you again at @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks )!

It‘s too cute to be spooky!!! This package 🖤🦇👻
Thank you Misty! Today was a bad day (ending a crap week)…. You definitely gave me a flurry of happy with this #litsylove !!! Thank you for being a sweet friend. Love you 🤗
Oooh, I do not love how someone's death was relegated to like 2 sentences, but Diana and Matthew's Time Traveling Shenanigans had my whole heart. All the people we got to meet! #fantasy
I chose to read this as a real-time reading - the book opened on November 1st, and I have been following the real-time schedule (reading the chapter on the day it occurred) since then. A fun way to read, but there were very long stretches between chapters, and I quite honestly didn‘t quite remember everything!
Harkness has created a plausible world of creatures, and their interactions with historical figures from the 16th century..:⬇ï¸â¬‡ï¸â¬‡ï¸
Another series I'm enjoying oh so very much. It's a very easy read and perfect for travel. It's really easy to get swept up in the character's lives.
I can‘t believe I‘m so late finding and starting this series! I‘m loving the time travel elements in this one and I‘m going to get my hands on the next book tomorrow!
Thanks Lisa & Brittany for the tags 😊 #Two4Tuesday
1ï¸âƒ£ Gallowglass. He just makes the last two books in the trilogy so good. He‘s intelligent, emotional, tender, and loyal. I really hope Deb Harkness gets to write his book ðŸ™ðŸ»
2ï¸âƒ£ Strong supporting character always adds so much color & depth to a story.

Although I liked it a little bit less than the first part, I almost couldn't put away this book. There was just a bit too much blabber between Matthews friends. Matthew himself was also not always the nicest guy around. But Diana's part was obviously very nice to read. It must have been so cool to live in the 16th century for some time! I'm also quite jealous of her magic dragon and I adored Jack and Annie!
âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ â—¼ï¸ The graphic designer in me is so in love with these book covers. I absolutely love this series and could kick myself for not reading sooner. This is #bookspin for #January and book 8 of the month. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/381906038 #LitsyLove
For me this is a typical case of book two in a trilogy syndrome. Pure filler, a lack of direction and an abundance of waffling.
There were parts in this that felt of value to the overall plot but on the whole this was a slog and all thats happening is your watching the author flex her historical knowledge in a drab fashion. This could have been magical, a previous century brought to life but it fell flat, sigh.
I liked the first in the series more, this one was definitely way more historical. I enjoyed all the literature references too, and having Kit Marlowe be a demon 😂
This follow up seemed to be losing touch with the story by throwing dozens of characters in, and having the main couple repeat the same relationship problems again and again. I hope the last book wraps everything up!
@TheAromaofBooks this was my book spin pick for December!
Finished this one the other day. Really enjoyed it! I had stopped on season 1 of the show because I didn't want any spoilers, but... now I want to spend the day watching season 2 :)
#ShadowOfNight
#AllSouls #SeasonOfTheWitch
Time travel to 16th century England and France made this my favorite book of the All Souls trilogy.
I really enjoyed this book. It is so clever and a mix of history and fiction. A witch and a vampire fall in love and travel back in time to find a teacher for the witch. Amazing plot and great characters. Can‘t wait for the third book to be available!
I decided to do some painting last night. Not my best work. Went with something whimsical which is not typically my thing. I usually do pop culture of some sort, so I'm used to more precision. It was hard for me to let go and just do something different. On the plus side, I did finish Shadow of Night! ðŸ‘

At 71% and there is still 7hrs left. 🥴
This is one looooong book. 😩
#bookspinbingo Digital Library Loan 15 @TheAromaofBooks
@Kimberlone and I have spent the day watching Season 2 of The Discovery of Witches, drinking mimosas, and cooking Colombian soup with left over turkey. Despite her broken knee, she is a great head chef. For anyone that has finished all three books.... To they EVER consummate this marriage?! #sisters #witches #discoveryofwitches
Started this audio today and am already enjoying it! (Normally I‘m not super into history type story lines or time travel but… it‘s working for me!) #ShadowOfNight

One of the things I love best about my kindle is being able to go to the library while I‘m in bed. Checked out six books. Starting with the second book in the Discovery of Witches series!!!
The history and time spent in Elizabethan England was quite fun. But Diana and Matthew seem to have lost ALL sense of urgency when they time walked to the past! I loved when a very unexpected character appeared and basically asked WTH they were doing dallying around so long 🤣. Although I have some books lined up for #NFNovembwr, I will be picking up The Book of Life next so I can finish the trilogy.

🌙I‘m continuing our #AllSouls group read-along with Book 2: #ShadowofNight 🖤
The real-time read for this one has too many gaps, so I created a schedule that breaks down the book over the course of 8 weeks, at a leisurely pace (accounting for the upcoming holiday season). This is a no-pressure group reading. Tagging the folks who participated in the #DOWRTR in case you‘d like to join!
âï¸Wanna join? Comment below! Feel free to share as well!
Finally finished! A solid four stars. I really enjoyed it, but I felt like fifty to a hundred pages could have been cut from it, and I‘d have enjoyed the book every bit as much. Sometimes the descriptions felt like they went on and on, and I just wanted the plot to move faster. âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸
I‘m still plowing my way through this book. Reading for so many readathons this weekend, including #OutstandingOctober and #Scarathlon2021. I‘m having so much fun! I can‘t wait to find out what happens next in the book! :)
I‘m still reading the tagged book. I‘ve gotten in five hours of reading so far today for the #BirthdayBash #readathon! Not sure how many more hours I‘ll get in today, but I‘ve had a blast so far. I found the pic on FB and thought I‘d share it here too. Hope everyone‘s having a great Wednesday!
Happy Birthday again, Sarah!! 📚ðŸ§âœ¨
Just finishing up a mug of rooibos tea while getting ready to dip back into the tagged book. Happy Reading, everyone!!
📚✨
Bk9 of September & Bk18 of #LittensDressedInBlood is done! And I finished my first ever beanie while #audioknitting! It‘s not the prettiest but not bad for a 1st attempt. Least it fits. Mostly😋Now back at the blanket for my new grandson who‘s due in 3 weeks🙌Hubs is going away for a week leaving me alone so I‘ll be getting organised for October‘s ‘thons & finishing up some more reads for this month hopefully.🤞 #BookspinBingo #PennyPerPage👇
My loan came through much sooner than expected—looks my weekend booked 🤣📚
I just couldn‘t deal with this series any more. The romance is so toxic and stupid that it made it impossible to read. And since this one takes place in Elizabethan England, it gave Matthew the excuse to be even more sexist, possessive, and controlling towards Diana. I‘m not a fan of promoting unhealthy relationships. This series is just dark academia Twilight. And that‘s not a compliment.
I am really enjoying this trilogy. I love all the history and details. It makes me appreciate being a woman in this century though. The freedoms we have compared to then for example. It also really makes you feel human mortality. I have gasped out loud, laughed and cried while reading this. That alone is a sign of a truly engaging story. It is a grand adventure and I can't wait to see how it ends.
Super much better than the first book. Much more captivating and felt like the story was going somewhere. Diana and Matthew still have their cringey relationship moments but it‘s all apart of the story! Continuing on!
Second book in the All Souls Trilogy and I enjoyed it . What I loved most about the book was the historical references and the use of iconic authors/playwrights, etc. as allies of Matthew and how the story web was spun to include them in the Roydon (de Clermont) adventures. ââââ

@TheSpineView @TheAromaofBooks
This book is better than the first. The first now feels more like an introduction to me. This one was exciting from beginning to end, and it literally picks up where the first story leaves off. 4.5â
It may be my mood lately, but I didn‘t enjoy this reread as much as I did in 2015. I gave it 5 stars then. Today I might give it 3.5. Diana and Matthew both irritate me and I don‘t care for the audiobook narrator. There are some fun elements to the time travel, but it‘s the secondary characters that make the book worth reading. Gallowglass is the one I was most looking forward to seeing again, and I will miss Jack very much.
