I usually don't bail on books. But I had a really hard time getting into this one. Just not for me. Onto the next.

I'm a slow reader most of the time. Few books can override my need to be multitasking, hence why I enjoy so many audiobooks. But I read this book in 2 days. Not even 2 days, 1 evening + 1 afternoon. There's plenty of bad reviews on good reads that make some okay points. But this was thrilling and I very much enjoyed it on this rainy weekend.
As an adult child of an ELAR teacher, I have much appreciated how the love of reading & learning was instilled in me from a young age. This book shows just how powerful books can be. I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good book ❤️📖
The story of this video game was one for the ages, truly, and the novelization is no different. Narrated by Alastair Duncan who voiced Memir in the video game. I truly enjoyed this audiobook.
In 2022 I read 18 books out of my goal of 10, listening to 15/18 of them. This year, I've made it a goal to read at least 5 out of my new goal of 20 as opposed to listening. And to take up an old habit of reading on my lunch break to lessen time spent scrolling social media. I'm enjoying it thus far. 😌
Finished up the book I started in late December! Great thriller, amazing voice actors on audible. Slow build but worth it.
Wonderful retelling of old Hollywood without stripping away the magic and fantasy. Left me wanting more but still a good read. 4.5/5 🌟
True crime lover? This is a fabulous telling of one woman's obsession with the Golden State Killer. Finished by those thaylt worked with and loved her after her untimely death.
This eas everything I wanted in a retelling of magic and its roots. I loved this book. You must read it for yourself. 🥰
I had too high expectations for this one.. It read a lot more thans/homopbilobic than I think the author intended, and the ending was so/so. Kinda disappointing.
What can I say but that a girl and her dog can defeat the world ❤ this book was so good i can't even really do it justice in a short blurb. January LaVoy also does a WONDERFUL reading of it if you like listening. 🥰
This book was just intriguing enough for me to want to know the ending. But was not intriguing enough for me to want to know quickly.
Oh goodness, how to say how much I enjoyed this book. Magic, love, whimsy, and excitement wrapped in black, white, and blood red. If you're intrigued, you should just read it. I also highly suggest listening to it narrated by Jim Dale (also who narrated Harry Potter)
So, I almost always choose a book by its cover. I know you're not supposed to but I can't stop. So. If you're thinking this is a thriller, you'll be sorely disappointed. HOWEVER, it is a really good expose and commentary on housing inequality and how expensive it is to be poor. I definitely recommend reading it just to expand your mind.
I hate giving bad reviews. But this is just not well written. Very long winded and predictable. Held out for a twist that never came. Weird vibes and infuriating ending - and not in a good way.
Oh my goodness. This book was the historical fiction with a dash of fairy tale that I didn't know I was looking for. I highly recommend listening to it as music is an integral part of the story and the producers do a wonderful job incorporating it into the reading.
I finally finished my first official witchy book. And im so glad I chose this one first even though I bought like 5 at the same time. Fire Lyte gave me what I needed by reminding me I am the magic, not the tools. And that I'm doing it right if I feel right. That it's okay that I came to find my true path later in life. Not a spell book, but a good book on history and ethics of witchcraft as well as just general tips for beginners.
Good story built too slowly to make the twist hit as hard as it should. That being said, still a good story.
Ultimately kinda predictable, but still a really good and unique story. If you don't want spoilers, just read it 😌
I was recommended this book as my black history month read. While, yes, it touches on racism and prejudice it takes a while to get there. There is also sexual tension and jealousy that I find 0% necessary and the number of times the main character has to remind people of her injury is 100% infuriating and also unnecessary. The writing to me just wasn't that good. Good enough to finish with an only somewhat satisfying ending. But no more.
Its nice to break up my reading with some non-fiction occasionally. Although there are some things (like Offerman's view on fast food) that are clearly written from a place of privilege, the overall sentiment rings true and needs more accessibility. I also believe Offerman would be open to discussion of these things, making it a delightful read. I highly suggest listening to him read in his beautiful baritone for the full effect.
Oh my gosh. Such a beautifully creepy fairy tale inside a fairy tale. Definitely recommend!
Also, Rebecca Soler does an absolutely phenomenal reading so if you're into audio books, this one is definitely for you!
I waited a long time for this to become available at my library which inevitably set some unreachable standards. But it was still a great read. Great mix of modern and historical retelling of timeless women's struggles with men, the patriarchy, and finding yourself.
This book. How to I put it? Was intriguing and disappointing. Beautiful and infuriating. Not a one-sitter but interesting enough for me to pick it up daily. Worth it, though.
I'm putting a content rating of Mature for sex and language.
Also a TRIGGER WARNING: in/fertiliy, reproductive rights, abortion
If you haven't read this book, you should. I could leave a long review about the powerful messages and how elegantly she retells trying times. But honestly, it wouldn't do it justice. Just read it.
And if I may suggest, listen to it read by the author herself as I did.
I so badly wanted to give this book 5 stars and a rave review. But I just can't. It is a very intriguing story, written in a kind of boring way.
I will say though, reading it for yourself, with your own intonation may assist with this. I listened to it, and the narrator just didn't do it for me most of the time.
All that said, the story really is intriguing. So if you're looking for a fairly easy read with a good plot, This one is for you.
This book caught my eye because it is based on a true story. I saw a lot of people didn't care for it because of a "lack of prose." But I listened to it which probably made that less noticeable. This has romance and heartbreak but does not read like your typical romance or tear jerker, the story is worth it though.
Interesting and easy-paced. No twists or turns but a fun following of Lois through her new found hobby turned business venture. Short chapters for my fellow ADHD readers. Good choice for an audio book. If you liked "Convenience Store Woman" you'll like this one, too. ?
