What Makes a Shadow? | Clyde Robert Bulla
post image
Pickpick

What Makes a Shadow? is a great NF book all about what shadows can be made written by Clyde Robert Bulla and illustrated by June Otani This book would be a great RA or SR. I used this book in my classroom within my shadow unit where we taught the kids all about them. They always were so excited to go outside and see their shadow.

AlyssaB An UDL strategy would be 1.3 which offers alternatives for visual information. An ESOL strategy would be 36 which is asking numerous questions which require higher level thinking responds. A great resource would be http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/casting-shadows-a... which gives different sessions on what you could involve when teaching shadows. #UCFLAE3414F19 5d

Shadows | John Saul

They call it the Academy. A secluded, cliff-top mansion overlooking the rugged Pacific coast. A school for children gifted -- or cursed -- with extraordinary minds. Children soon to come under the influence of an intelligence even more brilliant than their own -- and unspeakably evil. For within this mind a dark plan is taking form. A plan so horrifying, no one will believe it. No one but the children.

Chrissyreadit John Saul has been around forever. 2w
JoScho @Chrissyreadit yeah he has. I have never read any of his books. 2w
Chrissyreadit What??? I devoured them in high school but have no actual memory of them- did you like this one? 2w
Reggie @Chrissyreadit I read like 3 of his books and in every one I read the child/kid protagonist dies. They were good but no happy endings here. 2w
Chrissyreadit @Reggie yeah- I think in HS I was ok with dark and creepy - I loved horror - but once I had kids I couldn‘t do it anymore. This year is my first time engaging in the genre since then and my teens are 15 and 17. I‘m sure I would not like John Saul now. (edited) 2w

As the title states the tagged book is a collection of stories & illustrations that can be finished in under a minute. Margaret Atwood, Lethem, Stine & more. Pictured is Gaiman's contribution The #Shadow in its entirety.

vivastory @readordierachel I'm not sure I've ever seen "something" deployed more effectively in a story before ? 2w

readordierachel @Reggie Oh, I like that interpretation! For some reason I kept picturing a hand... 2w
vivastory @readordierachel I was also picturing a hand. I like the idea of it being a heart, of course if this was a David Lynch movie it'd be an ear 😬 @Reggie 2w

“Entering the #Shadow World can be deadly. Do so at your own risk.“

Another classic teen #90sHorror

Back in the day, I actually preferred The Forbidden Game trilogy to The Vampire Diaries series.

The shadow monster lurks behind the fake library binding cover of this Stranger Things book. I wonder if he got locked out of the Upside Down.
