Third time I‘ve tried to finish this book. I will finish because there‘s a sequel to it in King‘s next book. “What happens to Cujo, how he becomes a horrifying vortex inescapably drawing in all the people around him, makes for one of the most heart-stopping novels Stephen King has ever written. “A genuine page-turner that grabs you and holds you and won‘t let go” (Chattanooga Times), Cujo will forever change how you view man‘s best friend.”

1. Yes! I learned how to drive at the age of 15 and had to learn on a manual transmission, as it's all we owned. Until recently, it's all I drove.

Day - Shadow - this is my shadow, I cannot go anywhere or do anything without him in the house. Always checking on me like he is my supervisor or something. I haven‘t revisited this one since I was but a wee preteen. Needed a new #AudioCommute so… here it goes :)

Cujo is one of the many King books I haven‘t revisited since high school. It still holds up today (and, in some ways, is more devastating to read as an adult). That said, I‘d forgotten how little of the book is dedicated to Cujo‘s rampage. Lots of deep, extensive character depth here, which really defined early King.

Day 7. One Word

I didn‘t expect to love this one so much but WOW. Stephen King is so freaking good at building characters and details in the beginning and then layering them until the end just blows my mind. These characters are so real and believable. The story was heartbreaking in several ways, but the suspense I felt throughout and my heart rate in the second half made for a really fun reading experience.

This is a struggle for me because of the chapters when Cujo is getting sicker. His POV is exceptional so much that it absolutely rips my heart out. I‘m not sure I‘m supposed to sympathize with Cujo, but here we are. I am a Dog Person.

Stephen King‘s layered build-up of each character is flawless though. He is the Master, no doubt about it.

This is a difficult book to read, especially if you are a parent. I've always looked at Cujo as Stephen King's way of working through some of his worst fears as a parent (much like The Shining), and it's difficult to see him create such a wonderful, vulnerable character as Tad, then put that character in mortal danger. That said, Vic and Donna are written in likable and realistic fashion, and King manages to maintain tension throughout. 4/5.

I don‘t even love dogs & I wanted to hug poor Cujo!!

I loved the slow build up … you know the characters!! Including Cujo.

You get to hear multiple POV including Cujo‘s!!

A lovable giant dog in his middle age goes on a killing spree after an unfortunate accident.

Great ending! Good narration.

This is the story of Cujo, a big cuddly dog who turns in a total monster. This all felt very real to me and the atmosphere and tension in this book leaps of the pages. I was in this very realistic, horrific situation where I could feel the heat and the sweat running down my own back.

I enjoyed how King gave Cujo his own dialogue, I actually felt so sorry for this dog. The internal battle in his own mind really added depth to his character.

This was the only scary read this month for me. But what a story! I found the dysfunctional human relationships just as scary as poor rabid Cujo.

I read this many years ago in HS so it was like reading for the first time 😱 except for a couple incidents I vaguely remembered.

Not as cute as my last post, but still dog-related! Found this hardback (book club edition) at Goodwill recently for 99 cents 😳. Snapped it up right away. My younger son is on a mission to collect all SK‘s hardbacks but I‘m reading it first. I did read many years ago from a paper back.

Got to add my first book to my #BookBingo board! Cujo has been on my radar for AGES, and I felt like a fake King fan not having read such a well-known work of his 😂 Luckily, I loved this one, so my status as a King stan has been safely restored.

Currently reading Cujo-well, I'll get started on it during my baseball game this afternoon.

Just finished the book which I never read and so I decided to watch the movie which I had never seen. And I call myself a Stephen King fan. Oh the shame!
Ok film with great performances by Dee Wallace and Danny Pintauro.
No surprise, but the book was better.

King is not my favourite author but I liked Cujo. First part of the book was a little boring for me and it take me a little more time to read. But the second part was really amazing.

I first saw this movie a few years ago late one night while my next door neighbor‘s St. Bernard, Toby, barked in the background. Thankfully Toby‘s a gentle giant who has gotten all his shots and is best buds with my dachshund. I really enjoyed the book and getting chapters from the dog‘s perspective, especially as the rabies began to take hold. From the opening paragraphs about homicidal cop Frank Dodd to the brutal confrontation, Cujo is one of the more relentless of King's novels that I have read. My one complaint is that there is a subplot involving a marketing mishap & subsequent crisis management that felt unnecessarily long. There are a few pacing issues & I think it would benefit from a little editing. Still, it is one of King's more uncompromising & darkest works.👇

I am on a roll listening my way through Stephen King‘s novels! Cujo was intense! I love dogs so it kind of broke my heart to have him shown as a good boy to then be turned into this rabid monster that couldn‘t control himself. The narrator was great and I was definitely on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all work out (which was quite sad to me). Solid listening experience! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Finished Cujo this morning. It was a realistic read because it could actually happen and I guess that's what makes it a scary, although having said that, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought i would. I don't dislike it by any stretch of the imagination, I found it tense at parts, it's atmospheric and unpredictable; I'm giving it a 3/5 💫

Wish I could have said more about it, anyway..its a Pick..not a So-So 😬

How you feel about this one dependz on this: King has this habit of bloating his novels and Cujo is the best example of this. It's a novel even he himself can barely remember, thanks to his severe alcholism at the time. Cujo would have made a great short story, but at 400 pages it doesn't know how to sustain itself.

This was hard to read. Poor Cujo started out as a good doggy. I stayed up until 3 this morning to finish it. I did not see that ending coming and I think I‘m still in shock. And that is why Stephen King is my favorite author! 4⭐️ 🐶

Finished up this audiobook during my morning travels. I am utterly convinced that King‘s books work best in audio form. I loved the characterization (enhanced by the narration) and how the story built. There are some ‘80s horror/supernatural elements, too, which worked well. This one was a harrowing experience to listen to at times - how much can these characters go through! But thoroughly enjoyable all the same.

You guys, I loved this book about a rabid dog and now I‘m questioning my brain. 🤣

I listened to the audio and it was well done. The 14 hours flew by and I finished it in 2.5 days. The story has a good ending - which isn‘t always the case with King - and I had a mini dog induced panic session where I sat in my car say “oh no oh no oh no” in the driveway while I waited to see what happened. 🤣

I‘ve slowly been working my way through Stephen King‘s books, reading/rereading them all in order, mixing them in with the other books from my TBR piles. Next up is a reread of Cujo. This is an old favorite that I last read, probably, over fifteen years ago. Getting started on it now.
