Read this a few years ago and it broke my heart. Off to see the movie this afternoon - prepared first a rough ride! #booktoscreen

Anybody else braved it?

Chrissyreadit It‘s on my kindle- but not read. What plant is hanging in the background? 2w
Mitch @Chrissyreadit it has lovely heart shaped leaves. And it grows well - low maintenance! 2w

Chrissyreadit I love it! I think it would be perfect in my office too- although someday I will figure out how to have plants at home the cats do not get into. 2w
Mitch @Chrissyreadit hahah - I have to snip this one off and make a new plant when it gets to a certain length to avoid the three cats playing with it! 2w
TNbookworm The movie is excellent and broke my heart. I have not read the book yet but am planning to soon. 2w
MallenNC Saw the movie this weekend. It‘s really good. Also very difficult to watch but I‘m glad I did. Make sure to stay through the credits at the end because there‘s good real life content included. (edited) 2w
Mitch @TNbookworm @MallenNC it was amazing - the audience was in tears ( me included). 2w

I read the tagged book over a year ago and it stayed at the forefront of my mind. I spent yesterday bingeing on the Netflix limited series based on the book. I cannot tell you the last time I did that, but once I got started I had to watch to the end even though I knew what happened. I thought it was a great adaptation and well worth a watch by anyone interested. #booktoscreen

JenReadsAlot I'm going to check that out. 2mo
cariashley I had no idea they made a series out of this! 2mo
CoverToCoverGirl Ha! I seldom watch any kind of TV but it this was highly recommended by a good friend so I tuned in and like you I watched it in one sitting — time well spent! I highly recommend it too! 2mo

Suet624 Oh my gosh. I binged this too. I have such a crush on Merritt Wever. She was so good in this, as she is in every part she plays. I want her to be my best friend. 😍😍 2mo
Jas16 @Suet624 She really was fantastic and someone I will be keeping an eye out for in the future. 2mo
Suet624 @Jas16 she was great in Godless and Nurse Jackie. 2mo

There are a lot of great movies coming out in 2020, including several based on books. There are 9 adaptations that I am especially excited about and I want to talk about them with you! You can check out my latest video here: https://youtu.be/Ym9tgT9JNGQ

Scochrane26 They‘re doing a Secret Garden movie?!!! 2mo
EadieB @Butterflyamore Definitely interested in Just Mercy as I read the book. Dolittle looks great and Wendy too. Secret Garden is a must. The Woman In The Window - I read that one and would like to see what they do with that. Just read that the rights were bought by Disney and the movie is being revamped by them. The Witches, News of the World and I know This Much is True would be good to see also. 2mo

EadieB @Butterflyamore Just found other book to movies coming out in 2020 that I am interested in: The Turn of the Screw, Rebecca, Death on the Nile and another Agatha Christy book The Pale Horse. 9 Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty looks interesting too. Two by Stephen King, The Outsiders and The Stand. Little Fires Everywhere will have 8 episodes on HULU. Normal People by Sally Rooney. Call of the Wild and Brave New World. A lot of movies to see. 2mo
Butterflyamore @Scochrane26 Yep! There‘s a trailer out already. You can find it on YouTube. Colin Firth will be in it! 2mo
Butterflyamore @EadieB I wanted to talk about Rebecca, too, but I couldn‘t find enough information on the movie to include it in this video. Definitely interested in seeing it, though! There is a trailer out for The Woman in the Window and it looks great! 2mo
EadieB @Butterflyamore I‘ll have to check it out! Thanks! 2mo
Scochrane26 @Butterflyamore I can‘t remember if I saw any Secret Garden movies when I was a kid. I def want to see the new one. And I love Colin Firth. 2mo
Butterflyamore @Scochrane26 I remember seeing the TV movie but I can‘t remember if I saw the theatrical version from the ‘90s. Fun fact: Colin Firth was in the ‘87 TV version, too! 2mo

JackOBotts I read a profile on Ed Norton in an airplane mag...he worked on this adaptation for a loooooong time. Bought the rights shortly after its release (back when he was filming Fight Club). Looking forward to experiencing both book & film, eventually! 📚 (edited) 3mo
Anna40 Never heard of the book! I think Edward Norton is fantastic. Very smart, great actor. Did he direct the movie? 3mo

I went to see Doctor Sleep with my brother yesturday & we both loved it! It was such well done movie for an incredible book. The acting bringing the characters to life & the effects especially the recreation of The Overlook Hotel are all brilliantly executed👏👏👏 I loved the book & the movie! #booktoscreen

Bookish.SAM I just finished the book and then watched the movie tonight! Such an interesting mix to appease readers of the Doctor Sleep book and watchers of The Shining movie. (edited) 3mo

Hope you all got to catch the pilot episode tonight! I thought it was fabulous! I am now eagerly awaiting the next episode! I was also pleasantly surprised by the slightly creepy factor 😏 If you have watched it yet make sure that you do! Let me know what you think!

GingerAntics I‘m going to have to wait until the whole thing is released, so I can binge watch it during the preview period. 4mo
Lidia I did watched it tonight! I‘m a big fan of the books and hope they do them justice. The first chapter was good. I really liked James McCavoy as Lord Asriel. 4mo
emmaturi I really enjoyed it! Good choices in actors for each character! 4mo

Laughterhp Should I wait until I‘ve read all the books to watch it? I‘ve only just recently read the 1st book and don‘t want to spoil things for me! 4mo
Caroline2 I really enjoyed. I just wish the BBC would put the whole series on iplayer so I could binge the lot!! 😆 4mo
LibrarianRyan I watched 1/2 and fell asleep. I loved what i saw so far. I am going to finish it later tonight. 4mo
SassyBookworm @GingerAntics I definitely understand that I want to see e next episode sooo bad!!! 4mo
SassyBookworm @Lidia yes I thought he played a fabulous Lord Asriel! I need to read the other books since I‘ll I‘ve read was The Golden Compass as a kid so I think a reread is definitely in order! 4mo
SassyBookworm @emmaturi I agree the actors are fabulous! And I loved the cute little guy who plus Roger! 4mo
SassyBookworm @Laughterhp I have only read the first book and it was just a small ways in so I think you‘ll be fine, I plan on rereading book 1 and actually reading the others in the series 4mo
SassyBookworm @Caroline2 Amen to that! I love being able to binge watch stuff bc the anticipation til the next episode is killing me! 4mo
SassyBookworm @LibrarianRyan my oldest wants to watch it so I‘ll get to rewatch it with her! I‘m so excited! 4mo
LibrarianRyan @SassyBookworm Yeah. I love this book. I wonder if they will do a book a season? Even though from the first 30 minutes I saw things that were not in the original book that might be in the Book of dust. But I have not read that yet so I don't quite know. 4mo
GingerAntics It looks really good...and it‘s not like I don‘t know what happens. lol 4mo
SassyBookworm @LibrarianRyan I need to do a reread it‘s been soooo long ago when I read it. A book a season would be good but that means only 3 seasons 😔 4mo
LibrarianRyan @SassyBookworm not if they include the book of dust series. And they could do what GoT did and go past the books. Not that that was the worlds best idea. 4mo
SassyBookworm @LibrarianRyan ohhh I had no clue there was an extra book! I really need to get more in the know 🤦🏼‍♀️ 4mo
LibrarianRyan @SassyBookworm Yes there is a new spin off series. The book of dust starts before Golden Compass, but is mostly about life after the original series (I think I have not read it yet, and the newest book is the Secret Commonwealth. 4mo

Bookish.SAM @candc320 @Tera0707 @Branwen ... I‘m sooo looking forward to watching the sequel... in theater... with popcorn and beer and people! This, watching the first one by myself, right before going to bed, was a goddamn terrible idea!! 😱🤡😬 5mo
Tera0707 @Bookish.SAM my husband went on a business trip the day after we watched It Chapter 2, and that night in bed, I turned off my lamp and... well, I had to turn on the TV because I was actually scared! Kept picturing something standing in the corner. (This usually doesn‘t happen to me after watching scary movies but I was actually creeped out!) 5mo
Bookish.SAM Oh dear @Tera0707 ... this does not bode well for my return home from the movie. AND... I just happen to be reading King‘s ‘Desperation‘ at the moment. Might need to find an alternative for before bed that night! 5mo

Pickpick

I feel like I‘ve only seen bits and pieces of ‘Stand By Me‘ ages ago but listening to this #audiobook really made me want to go back and watch it all. The book offered a lot of nuance to the boys‘ characters that I never quite grasped from what I saw of the movie.

If you want a feel good, make you cry, happy-sad book, this is the one. Fantastic. I had to read it before I see the movie, and I wasn't disappointed. Enzo tells Denny's story in a heartwrenching way, based on what he is able to learn from one sided phone conversations, people speaking secrets in his presence, and watching television. My heart hurt for Denny non-stop.

I find myself looking at my dog, Duke (pictured), wondering...

#booktoscreen

huntersmom1977 I remember reading this book when it first came out. I cried on a public bus for the first time ever. Duke is so handsome! So lucky 🍀 6mo

I DNF'd The Guest Book by Sarah Blake. It's the first time I didn't force myself to continue. But as the members of #MBC say, life is too short to read books you're not enjoying. The kicker is, if I could get through it, I'm sure I would love it.

I picked up my next library loan to start. The Art Of Racing In The Rain by Garth Stein. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
