Look what the Cabbage Patch turned up! My parents are imploring my siblings and I to get all of our treasures out of the attic so they can do some remodeling. This rare beaut was discovered today. I‘m still not sure where all of my Cabbage Patch Kids books are, but I know they‘re up there!

Eveleth Drake will be the first to admit that she married the wrong guy. She was literally on her way out the door when she got the news. He didn‘t make it. Filled with something like guilt, grief, relief even, Eveleth must begin again. And she does, first alone, and then with “Baseball Dean”. ⬇️

BlameJennyJane They both need a do-over. But this is not the linear love story readers have come to expect. This story is frustrating, quirky, warm, clever, fresh and hope-filled. Get ready for rights to be sold to a streaming service near you. ⬇️ 1w

Confession: I‘ve read Chelsea Handler‘s work before and found her irritating. But I got this anyway after seeing a great review. #blameitonlitsy I am loving this SO much and getting a lot out of it... spiritually, almost... although it‘s not in any way spiritual or religious. Just makes one think.
What makes me love a book is when author recognize their privilege and do something with it! By golly she‘s doing it. ❤️

This was one of those where the narration got in the way of, what could have been, an enjoyable middle grade read/listen. It was one of the two freebie originals last month and I thought I‘d listen while I did some #audicooking. Lots of over acting and annoying voices, even for my fifth grader who said, “what the junk, mom?” Bail.

This was fantastic on so many levels. And, hey, it was about therapy and It didn‘t even feel like being at work... and most books about therapy do. I highly recommend this for anyone who isn‘t scared of the #stigma (s) surrounding mental health... and even if you are, just listen to it privately! 😘

This was just so-so for me. I love that Faith is a plus size super hero... but it‘s also a comic so there are sooooo many other stereotypes that I found it distracting. But isn‘t that what comics do??? They exaggerate everything and one just has to suspend all kinds of disbelief. The artwork is brilliant.

This is a big PICK! Coulter‘s essays have a common theme- alcohol- and the madness that came from drinking more than her fair share. When I came across this book it really got me thinking about my own alcohol use. I wouldn‘t consider myself a problem drinker, but really, nothing good comes from it... nothing meaningful... not a damn thing. And it‘s expensive and alcoholism runs rampant in my family. 11 days booze free and counting.

Mehso-so

This was a bit “meh” for me. I appreciate that it is written by women for women. At the same time, it felt like there were lots of reminders that men are *essentially* the reason for our burnout. The authors say they are acknowledging cultural climate and context, which I get... but I was ready for what came next before they were ready to evolve beyond man-focus. There were great bits and pieces along the way so, overall, I‘d recommend it.

This #NotInTheDatabase #Audible is fantastic; best Non-Fiction I‘ve heard all year! Using several anecdotal interviews, Robbins discusses what we can do to feel a sense of control in our lives. She explains how we keep ourselves in a constant state of anxiety by not dealing with the triggers in our lives that sucked us into our bad habits including our negative thought patterns, freezing at opportunity and becoming complacent chameleons.

This was cute. The illustrations are adorable and the author/illustrator captures the spirit of loving books. But I‘m glad this was a #hoopla loan and not a purchase because the themes played on repeat after the first 25 pages (how books smell, books over humans, my night is “all booked up” and spending money on books is better than spending money on anything else).

This was an #ARC. It is a self-help diary for those who battle OCD, written by an author winning her own battle. From a therapist‘s perspective, I love the practicality and relatability of this. I can envision teen clients working through this as part of their recovery. It may be too simplistic for most adults and it isn‘t a stand alone solution, but it is a fun complement to other interventions.

While I appreciate the overall message of this book, I have to admit I struggled with the religious aspects of it. She‘s My Dad takes a potentially polarizing issue and makes it accessible to Christians who may not yet “get it” when it comes to gender identity. If you are interested in understanding cultural issues through the lens of your Christian faith, you will likely gain a lot of insight from this book. Thanks #NetGalley for a copy!
