Bookwormjillk Cordelia 😂😂 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk best part of the whole chapter 🤣🤣 2mo
See All 14 Comments
willaful Oh man. Charles falls for Julia because she's the closest he can get to Sebastian. UGH.

Cordelia is a beam of sunshine. 💛
2mo
lil1inblue Cordelia was excellent in this chapter. ??? I also found Rex's whole "I'll just become a Catholic" thing hilarious. 2mo
Cuilin @lil1inblue that was so funny, especially with Cordelia interfering. 😆 2mo
ElizaMarie Rex doesn‘t seem to get it. I would think Julia would have been insulted that he didn‘t take the Catholicism seriously and dismissed it. Like to say he would throw money at the fact his x wife existed - he is cocky. —- oh and Cordelia is a hoot!!! 2mo
mcctrish I quite liked Rex until he went back to his mistress because Julia wouldn‘t put out - she was 20? In an era that frowned on extra marital sex AND didn‘t talk about sex to know what to expect 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly @willaful 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly Cordelia is the best. I want to say Rex and Julia deserve each other, but that might be a little harsh on Julia. The bit where she catches him with his mistress so pointedly avoids him, and then when she‘s talked into seeing him she emerges engaged, cracked me up! 2mo
ElizaMarie @Clare-Dragonfly YES !!! I was thinking she was going to “hold strong“ with her avoiding him and making him chase her to even talk to her! But... she probably knew how weak she was to him and his speeches. I felt sorry for Julia. 2mo
lil1inblue @mcctrish 🎯 🎯 🎯Exactly this! 2mo
BarbaraJean @mctrish Ugh, yes. Especially when his earlier version of it to Charles was that Julia knew about the mistress and was fine with it 🙄 2mo
Daisey This was a great chapter. Cordelia's interference was hilarious. 2mo

mcctrish What a ride this chapter was!!! Poor molly ( it‘s all I ever say) suffering through #notarealclare waxing on about all her grievances, worrying about Roger being ill, realizing Cynthia could care less about Roger, having the Brown Owls chastize her over Mr Preston whom she hasn‘t seen since she was at the Towers? I love that when #thebrownowls list all the things they will do, she replies “yes, do it, of course” (edited) 5mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish that was pretty badass of Molly, actually. I was proud of her 5mo
See All 11 Comments
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead right? Shutting down that rant! Meanwhile stupid #notarealclare is all “I‘d rather Mr Preston came to call than these two “ OMG 5mo
Cuilin For Molly being weak and “sickly looking” she can certainly shut down an awkward conversation. What letter was Cynthia hiding? 5mo
eeclayton @Cuilin I was wondering about that letter, too 🤔 4mo
dabbe I am so worried that Molly is going to somehow end up in the same situation as Maggie Tulliver from THE MILL, not because she's actually gone away with a man but because these gossiping biddies are going to spread that rumor, and her reputation will be ruined in this small town. WTF with these Victorian women? 😮‍💨 4mo
willaful @dabbe I don't think the author is going to be that cruel to us, but who knows?

Wasn't it hard not to read onto the next chapter?! Seems like some answers may be coming. Operative word, “may.“ 😂
4mo
Clare-Dragonfly Seems like #notarealclare and Mrs. Tulliver from The Mill on the Floss ought to trade daughters! Or at least trade their hair… Cynthia says she‘s almost out of her trouble so hopefully she‘s almost done paying off Preston. But what could the paying off be about?! 4mo
dabbe @willaful 🩵🎯🩵 4mo
Bookwormjillk I finally got a chance to read this chapter. Molly certainly held her own! Go Molly! 4mo

dabbe All they want to do is bitch about how much the family is ruined, yet they won't lift a finger to help--even though they have the money to do it! #beyondannoyed 🤬 7mo

Bookwormjillk They‘re the worst and Mrs Tully is getting on my nerves too. 7mo
Leftcoastzen Nothing brings a family together like money troubles! The ones that could help are spreading the misery. 🙄😡 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly Mrs. Glegg is soooooooo obnoxious! 7mo
ElizaMarie The teapots!!! 7mo

CatLass007 I‘m still wondering what is going on and what‘s next. When will something actually happen? I‘m going to allow #thebros chapters 7 and 8 of this section, and I will decide on Sunday if I want to continue. 2y
Bookwormjillk Today‘s chapter was much better than yesterday‘s but I‘m confused why they needed to air all this dirty laundry in front of a bunch of random monks and an elder. 2y
Ruthiella @IndoorDame 🤣 @Bookwormjillk I‘m confused too. Was the Elder supposed to referee or adjudicate? If so, what is the significance of his actions, kneeling before Dimitry? 2y
5feet.of.fury Who else googled “anthropophagy”? Or was that not in everyone‘s translation 😂 2y
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury either that wasn‘t in my translation or I glazed over it somehow 2y
5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead there‘s a lot to glaze over in this argument between Ivan & Dmitri. I think I‘ve given up on understanding the subtext & tried to settle for just understanding the individual words 😂 2y
mcctrish @IndoorDame this chapter was absolutely high court drama aka Judge Judy and yes @5feet.of.fury I did 😳 Fyodor is a piece of work imo #potcallingthekettleblack 2y
IndoorDame @5feet.of.fury I did 😬 there are some words I didn‘t need to know we had in English 2y
Ruthiella @5feet.of.fury I googled anthropophagy too! I assume it was ancestors worship and was startled to find it meant cannibalism .😱🤢 2y
Cuilin @IndoorDame @mctrish I also got Jerry Springer vibes! Lol 2y
IndoorDame @Cuilin hahaha 💯! 2y

Bklover Same question. Where was Rodney?? These people are so weird. 2y
See All 10 Comments
Bklover Also he comes home and she doesn‘t ask him a single thing about his day. She has absolutely no interest in Rodney! 2y
Aimeesue Sybil does know! I think he was with Rowena 😂 2y
BarkingMadRead @Aimeesue that would be amazing #wifeswap 2y
AnnR These characters aren't very likeable. My reaction to them is similar to the characters in many of Edith Wharton's novels. 2y
Bklover @Aimeesue That would be perfect wouldn‘t it?!😆 2y
Bookwormjillk @Aimeesue ha! Perfect! Sybil knows all. 2y
dabbe @AnnR I so agree! I think I've mentioned more than once how these people make me think of the Gilded Age New York society snobs. Just living their elegantly rich but humdrum lives. 2y

BarkingMadRead @mcctrish poor Raggles, he probably remain poor as well! Even if they got money, I doubt they would pay everyone back! 2y
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead if they tracked their debt people would have half a chance but …… 2y
TheAromaofBooks I was pretty stoked with Pitt Jr. finally stood up to the ridiculous MIL. Interested to see if he follows through on his good intentions or just turns into a different kind of tyrant. 2y
dabbe Why won't Mr-Jr Pitt just give his sibs some money? How can people be so stingy? So he and Jane are going to be nice to the relatives? Give them some money and be done with it. Well, that probably wouldn't make for as interesting a story.🤷‍♀️ 2y
eeclayton @TheAromaofBooks I was wondering about the same thing. But seeing that we have about half of the book ahead of us, something has to go sour 2y

Ch 19-20: Bute tries to manipulate Miss Crawford and Dobbin tries to Manipulate Sedley 🤷🏻‍♀️ #onlydobbinwassuccessful #ihategeorge #holdingouthopefordobbin #somuchdrama #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade

Bookwormjillk I still like Dobbin and am just kind of waiting to be disappointed since there‘s not supposed to be anyone likable in this book. 2y
mcctrish George is going to marry the orphan heiress, obviously and Miss Crawley is going to kick Bute-face to the curb #predictionsthatmakemehappy 2y
See All 9 Comments
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish amen!!!! @Bookwormjillk it would be just our luck too! 2y
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 🤣😅👏🏼 2y
AnnR Dobbin is trying to make Amelia happy by playing matchmaker but I think eventually she is going to be made quite miserable by her choice. #marrydobbinnotgeorge 2y
willaful @Ann_Reads right there with you. Dobbin is certainly the nicest character, but not the brightest bulb. 2y
dabbe I can't decide who I despise more, Bute or George. Or is it “whom“ I despise more? 🤔 2y
TheAromaofBooks I'm so scared Amelia is going to marry George!! I've been there, though, young and convinced that this is the only person you could ever love, despite him actually being a genuinely not-great person. Hard to see past those feelings! 2y

TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead @IndoorDame someone needs a “chill pill” 🙃 2y
mcctrish Everyone has worked themselves up in quite the lather, I‘m still #teambecky but Mrs Bute is meddlesome 2y
dabbe So Sir Pit and Miss Crawley just LOVE Becky to death--until that lowdown hussy marries Rawdon. WTH? If she's good enough to be THE new Mrs. Crawley, why isn't she good enough to just be a Crawley? #thesepeople #sheeshkabob 2y
eeclayton @dabbe I suspect Miss Crawley would have been just as mad had Becky married Sir Pitt, she was only nice about it after the refusal was made. 2y
willaful @eeclayton right there with you! 2y
Bookwormjillk That was weird 2y
SamAnne This book is laugh out loud funny. 2y
dabbe @eeclayton Totally agree. 2y
TheAromaofBooks I was so shocked to read that Sir Pitt went home and trashed all Becky's stuff! That seemed a bit dramatic! 2y

TheAromaofBooks I snickered over the description of Charlotte purposefully going out in the bad weather, but staying in during the nice weather - I have definitely met people like that, who do things the absolute hardest, worst way so they can spend all their time complaining about their difficulties! 2y
mcctrish #toomuchbeetoven so Lucy is going for a walk instead of the circular tram cuz it‘s safer 🙄 2y
Morr_Books @TheAromaofBooks & @mcctrish - Yessss! Loved all the commentary in this chapter, but yikes in regards to "They must find their level." 2y
Ruthiella Love Mr. Beebe. ❤️ 2y
Clare-Dragonfly These people all seem to know what they‘re talking about, but I can‘t figure it out! 😂 And I looked up what the chambermaid says to Beebe—it appears to translate as “it‘s okay, I‘m old.” 🤣 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - At least that's better than “it's okay, YOU'RE old“ 😂 2y
Clare-Dragonfly @TheAromaofBooks That‘s what I thought it was at first—and yes, you‘re right! 😂 2y
Bklover I can‘t quite picture Lucy playing the piano. I picture her pounding away with enthusiasm playing some very sad piece of music. I do like Beebe, but the rest of them- insecure snobs! Now I shall go “find my level”🙄🙄 2y
julieclair I am having trouble understanding this new friendship between Charlotte and Miss Lavish 2y
julieclair And I'm wondering if the "landslide ate my novel" story is true. 2y
BarkingMadRead @julieclair it seems so extreme! And to forget every word you wrote? 🙄 2y
dabbe @BarkingMadRead At least the novel didn't blow into the wind and the sexy housekeeper had to jump into the “lake“ to retrieve it! #channelingloveactually 2y
Allylu I‘m not getting the posts. Maybe I slipped off the list because I just read posts and didn‘t comment last time? Would you please add me back on? I enjoy your #hashtags so much! 2y
BarkingMadRead @Allylu you never have to comment…. Except when I ask if you want in on the next book! I‘ll add you! 2y
Allylu Thanks! 2y
Clare-Dragonfly @julieclair I was wondering if she‘d left it on a train… but she hasn‘t ended up with a baby by mistake 😂😂😂 2y

Chapter 5: my head is spinning and I had to #consultthegoogle #somuchdrama after a ton of drama, Lizzie gets Mary invited to Catherine‘s reception #enterMrYates #sosalty #sinsofthebrother #poorColonel #fingerscrossed #flashbacktoLizziesGarden #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade #almostcaughtup

Bookwormjillk I feel like I‘m going to have to re-read all the books now 2y
willaful I'm curious about Mrs. Grant's saying “If you only knew the real truth of the matter--if you only knew who had suffered and who was to be blamed!“ What do you suppose she's referring to? I don't think Mary should be blamed for her brother's actions but I also don't think that was the reason Edmund broke with her. I don't mind seeing Mary redeemed but I don't like her being whitewashed. 2y
See All 9 Comments
peanutnine @willaful I think that is just bias from Mrs Grant on her sister's behalf, seeing her heartache. I hope that Mary recognizes how she acted poorly and learned from it 2y
TheAromaofBooks I finally had to sit down and write out little mini family trees to help me remember who is who! Part of the problem is Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey are the two Austens I have read the fewest times and a LOT of the characters are from those two books!! 2y
ravenlee I was doing all right keeping everybody straight until Mr. Yates showed up. I knew, from the guide at the beginning, he was from MP, but I couldn‘t place him. When he became important, though, I got frustrated and had to look up “who the hell is Mr. Yates?!” 2y
TheBookHippie @TheAromaofBooks brilliant. I‘m going to do the same so I don‘t wear the Google out 😅😂 2y
TheBookHippie @ravenlee 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😅😂🤷🏻‍♀️same. 2y
mcctrish Lady Catherine “I know things, but I‘m not telling you what! Suffice to say you should be ashamed. But I‘m not getting into it. So get out of my house and feel badly. And no I won‘t say why!” For the love of god, women, spit it out!!!! 2y
