Nomination for #CampLitsy2024, one of four. @Megabooks @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain

Background photo is my newly planted Rhubarb. FYI Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day is June 9 🌟🍓🥧

Chelsea.Poole I almost added this to my nominations! And—I have rhubarb too! 😊 2w
squirrelbrain Ooh, this was rumoured for the #womensprize… 🤔 2w
BarbaraBB This sounds good!! 2w

BkClubCare @Chelsea.Poole - one of these times, my rhubarb plants will survive long enough to harvest. They keep dying, we keep trying it in new spots of the garden #sigh 🌱 2w
BkClubCare @squirrelbrain - was it? I haven‘t given much attention to that this year. I love the author‘s reviews on gr. 2w
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - HIGHLY anticipated read for me, I know I will read it anyway, if it isn‘t selected for camp. 2w
Megabooks I've almost checked out this audiobook twice! 2w
BkClubCare @Megabooks - I hope to do the ebook so that I can easily capture bits and bites. I love a good audiobook, too but want to preserve my reactions. (edited) 2w

Trying valiantly to get into this. I have been on page 16 for days and days. #sigh

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Permission to bail! Don‘t let it put you in a book slump. 2mo
AmyG Yeah, alot of non-essential minutiae for my taste. #hailthebail 2mo
CBee I think pup agrees, you should bail 😂 2mo
See All 21 Comments
fredthemoose The beginning and end dragged for me, but I found the middle 70-80% pretty good. But by all means, if you‘re feeling the bail, go with it! 2mo
Tamra Yes, too many digressions. I held out only to solve the mystery. I did like the nonverbal character storyline in the end. 2mo
Tamra I can tell you how it ends in a separate hidden comment if you decide to bail. 2mo
dabbe 🖤🐾🖤 2mo
dabbe #hailthebail! 🤩🤩🤩 2mo
Deblovestoread I finished but can‘t say it was worth the effort🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo
cariashley This one fell totally flat for me, so can‘t tell you it‘ll get better. 2mo
BkClubCare @cariashley - wow! Thanks ☺️ 2mo
BkClubCare @Tamra - interesting; I just might have to go search for a spoileriffic review 🤣 2mo
BkClubCare @Deblovestoread - good enough for me! Ty 2mo
BkClubCare @dabbe 😍😍😍 2mo
BkClubCare @Tamra - ack! Hadn‘t read both your comments 🤦🏻‍♀️ Sure! Bring it. You‘ll be doing me a favor. I owe you 🥰 2mo
BkClubCare @fredthemoose - I appreciate the support. 🤗 2mo
BkClubCare @AmyG - it‘s been 20 pages and we are still circling the issue! Dad is gone - let‘s DO something already 2mo
BkClubCare @CBee - Copper wants to got for a walk already. 🐕 2mo
Tamra @BkClubCare presumably the father falls off a ledge into the river in a park saving his son from falling first. That is presumed to be the case because that is what the son communicates via a letter board, but it‘s ultimately left as somewhat of a question. The son was under suspicion by the law for a time. Unbeknownst to the family, the father & son were working with a legit therapist who specialized in spelling boards for nonverbal individuals. 2mo

AvidReader25 @BkClubCare Ross Gay is an Indiana gem! I have read Beach Music (Conroy, right?). 2mo

CatLass007 I‘m still wondering what is going on and what‘s next. When will something actually happen? I‘m going to allow #thebros chapters 7 and 8 of this section, and I will decide on Sunday if I want to continue. 4mo
Bookwormjillk Today‘s chapter was much better than yesterday‘s but I‘m confused why they needed to air all this dirty laundry in front of a bunch of random monks and an elder. 4mo
Ruthiella @IndoorDame 🤣 @Bookwormjillk I‘m confused too. Was the Elder supposed to referee or adjudicate? If so, what is the significance of his actions, kneeling before Dimitry? 3mo
5feet.of.fury Who else googled “anthropophagy”? Or was that not in everyone‘s translation 😂 3mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury either that wasn‘t in my translation or I glazed over it somehow 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead there‘s a lot to glaze over in this argument between Ivan & Dmitri. I think I‘ve given up on understanding the subtext & tried to settle for just understanding the individual words 😂 3mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame this chapter was absolutely high court drama aka Judge Judy and yes @5feet.of.fury I did 😳 Fyodor is a piece of work imo #potcallingthekettleblack 3mo
IndoorDame @5feet.of.fury I did 😬 there are some words I didn‘t need to know we had in English 3mo
Ruthiella @5feet.of.fury I googled anthropophagy too! I assume it was ancestors worship and was startled to find it meant cannibalism .😱🤢 3mo
Cuilin @IndoorDame @mctrish I also got Jerry Springer vibes! Lol 3mo
IndoorDame @Cuilin hahaha 💯! 3mo

Started the audio of this but am ready to DNF. First, tho, I will skip and listen to the end. THEN make my decision. Seems like this is one that you can sample, read some positive reviews and some negative reviews, and feel like it was adequately sampled. GOOD ENOUGH.

Copper being startled by the vet cat.

I didn‘t get the job I was hoping for. #sigh 😔

Megabooks This got 1⭐️ from me. 👎🏻 5mo
MicheleinPhilly The ending will make this an easy decision for you! 5mo

Ruthiella Sorry about the job. I can‘t believe that cat is just at large at the vet? My cat would try to hightail it outta there were he not in a crate! 😹 5mo
Suet624 I‘m sorry about your job. 5mo
Susanita I‘m sorry about the job. 5mo
Hooked_on_books I really hated this book. You‘re not missing anything if you bail. 5mo

bthegood I hope you find something soon that you will enjoy - 🙂 5mo

What to do when you finish ALL your Currently-Readings and you have no clue what to read next?! I panic 🤣😳

So, I end up choosing Meryl Streep‘s narration of newly released Tom Lake and then THIS because it was ready to borrow and I assume it will be quick (no time to change my mind and dither on what I *should* be reading #sigh)

Even better when I see my beloved Ann P has endorsed The Family Fang when I try to find exact book cover for gr…

BkClubCare Of course… gr doesn‘t have this cover for the eBook. 😡 and OF COURSE I have no interest in my current book club selection due Tuesday. 9mo

Yo! I ❤️ when I can post all three varieties on a book I‘m reading. I feel like a success at Litsy when I find a book to Blurb, then Quote, then Review. Ahhhh, aint life grand? So, in reading RC by CS, the (see photo) I want to thank the #CampLitsy23 voters for putting this on my tbr. I‘ve LOL‘d quite a few times. A smart comedy that plays into the RC trope (or ??) - BRING IT. I have resisted this author, no idea why. #sigh

Couplets: A Love Story | Maggie Millner
post image
Pickpick

I‘m moonlighting from #camplitsy23, to read some of the books from that imposter, CampToB! 🤣

This is a very short book, only 1.5 hours on audio and is a love story told partly in verse and partly in a series of vignettes. Set in Brooklyn, the MC breaks up with her boyfriend to embark upon her first gay relationship.

It‘s funny in places, sexy in places, and sad in places.

Not sure who else is reading Camp ToB books? @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen

Deblovestoread I am. My library hold just came in on Couplets and waiting on Big Swiss to start. 11mo
squirrelbrain Hey @Deblovestoread 👋. I just started on Big Swiss about half an hour ago! I decided to listen to Couplets early as I had a pile of ironing to do today. 🙄 I also had time whilst ironing to start on the audio of Lone Women. 11mo
Deblovestoread I‘ll be interested to see your review about Lone Woman. I just gave my copy to my daughter to read first. I‘m a bit of a wimp when it comes to anything classified as “horror” so she is my pre reader. I don‘t mind creepy but can‘t stand gore. 11mo

squirrelbrain I‘ll let you know how I get on @Deblovestoread - depends on how much driving I need to do as to how far I get as that‘s how I do most of my audio. 11mo
BarbaraBB Thanks for the tag! I have Couplets lined up for this week too. Your review is encouraging! Big Swiss I read some weeks ago. I am looking forward to #CampToB! 11mo
sarahbarnes I‘m following along with this, too! I just read Couplets and liked it but didn‘t love it. I‘m excited about some of the ones on their list! 11mo
BkClubCare Omg! Love it. I just don‘t have the bandwidth and it makes me want to throw myself on the floor like a screaming toddler. Waaaaa 😩 I want to do both summer TOBs!!! Oh well. #sigh I will follow your reviews and keep stacking the tbr named “someday” 10mo

mcctrish ❤️❤️❤️ 12mo
Bookwormjillk Thanks for hosting. I actually didn't hate this one 😂

Loved the last line. “And now I think I have said sufficient.“ OKAY THEN AGNES!

Looking forward to the next one!
12mo
AllDebooks You made this great fun @BarkingMadRead Thanks for hosting 12mo
eeclayton "a single word or glance of mine meant more than the honied phrases and fervent protestations of most other men" ❤️ This happy ending makes me so happy, and we all deserve it ? Thanks for the fabulous hosting! 12mo
ravenlee The ending saved this one, but it was tough getting there! Thanks for hosting and making it fun (probably the only way that word could ever be applied to this book!). 12mo
BarkingMadRead I‘m so glad everyone liked it, I was worried for us for awhile, I dreaded another crappy ending 🤣🤣 12mo
dabbe Phenomenal host, @BarkingMadRead! My first #pemberlittens read won't be my last! Agnes, Weston, and Snap walk happily into the sunset together. This is the ending I would have wished for Anne herself. #sigh 12mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe I‘m glad you liked it!!! 12mo
Morr_Books This has been great! I am so glad you hosted this read @BarkingMadRead . I got much more out of this book because we all read it together. Thank you! 12mo
Morr_Books Also ❤️ the ending! 12mo
Clare-Dragonfly @ravenlee Yeah, I gave it a pick just because the ending made me so happy 😂 It‘s ridiculous because I didn‘t find the progression of the romance satisfying at all, but as an ending it‘s just lovely! 12mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly exactly 🙄🤣 12mo
Clare-Dragonfly It‘s still a better romance than Jane Eyre because Weston actually is good enough for Agnes. 12mo
TheAromaofBooks Happy ending for everyone including Snap 😂 I'm totally here for it!! Thanks so much for hosting @BarkingMadRead!!! 12mo
DebinHawaii I agree, the ending made this one as I was going to have to shake Agnes a few times! Great hosting & good fun! 💚 12mo

Guys, this section is LONG!!! I am suggesting we postpone our check-in until next Friday and go by the revised schedule below. Lancelot is one cranky dude and I still have a long way to go. 🤣 #OAFkingalong

April 28: The Ill-Made Knight - Favorite (or least fav) character so far.
May 5: The Candle in the Wind - Pick/So-So/Pan/Bail review

Lcsmcat I‘m ok with that. 12mo
RaeLovesToRead I've so far not managed to read much because I'm reading the Tawny Man trilogy too. When I get to it, I will go through all the posts with the hashtag as I read so I still feel like I'm joining in 🥰 (I'm not very good at being in more than one fantasy world at once.) 12mo
See All 15 Comments
AvidReader25 @RaeLovesToRead Catch up with us later! There‘s no hurry. 12mo
currentlyreadinginCO Def agree with the revised schedule. OAFK is getting a lot of side eyes on my nightstand ... like I'll get to you when I have a minute! 12mo
AvidReader25 @thereadingreference Total side eye! I lost some momentum after the dark turn in book 2. 12mo
BkClubCare LOL!! 🤣 maybe I can 🤔 still catch up ⬆️ to y‘all. #sigh 12mo
TheAromaofBooks Yes, that would work great! I divided each section by how many chapters I need to read per day to finish that section in a week, and this section is SEVEN chapters a day, which is wearing me down! 😂 12mo
MeganAnn @thereadingreference I keep doing that too! @AvidReader25 I lost a lot of momentum also and am having a harder time getting back into it. The extra time will definitely help. 12mo
rubyslippersreads Works for me. I haven‘t even started yet. 😏 12mo
batsy No problem at all. I'm a bad buddy reader in that I've read ahead. The Lancelot chapter is tough in parts but I also find this book so interesting—totally unlike the straightforward children's lit I mistakenly thought it was. 12mo
Vansa @batsy It wasn't written for children at all! 12mo
BarbaraJean Yes! Thank you! I‘ve gotten really behind this week. This helps to lighten my overloaded buddy-reading calendar 😆 12mo
AvidReader25 @BarbaraJean Same! The final section is much shorter, but this one is tough. 12mo
