I'm not mad at this. Technically, this is a reread for me but I couldn't remember a thing about it so it was all practically brand new. There was a lot that wasn't really necessary but for the most part I think this was an excellent first book to set the tone for the series.
How's everyone else doing? Are we looking at discussion dates or a plan for the next book?

Well, all my plans for working, cleaning, etc. are officially shot for the night due to the massive wind storm we are getting. Good thing my eReader has a full charge 👍

Looking like a quiet night in the dark with nothing else to do but read until bed. Poor me 🤣

Fun fact: if you try to enjoy some of the quiet time your toddler is having, even if you're in the SAME ROOM as him, don't enjoy it too much. The quiet is never good. NEVER!

The beautiful artwork took less than 5 minutes. I'm still trying to figure out where he had the marker stashed. 🤔

Plus side, the book is getting interesting now. I might just keep going for a bit. I'm not attempting to clean this until bathtime 🤣

Taking advantage and getting a few pages in while the boy has snack and watches Turning Red for the 3rd (and probably not the last) time today. He usually only stays occupied for about a half hour at a time but I should be able to make a decent dent anyway.

I liked the main characters but there were so many secondary characters that were hard to remember. I loved slow-burn romance!

Brutal society - just what I love in dystopia books. But I would have loved to have more of it!

This was a bit slow - well still interesting enough to keep me going.

The only good thing about snow days is getting a little break to get some reading done.

Shh. Can you hear that? It's the sound of pure silence. Hubs took the toddler out on an adventure this morning for a few hours so I'm going to live it up! I'm SITTING and drinking my HOT coffee and starting the first chapters for the #BoneSeasonBuddyRead with something not animated on the TV in the background. Later, I'm getting a shower. With HOT water. Alone. Admit it, you're jealous 🤣🤣🤣

I think this schedule should work for everyone's reading speeds? The first week is the biggest chunk (about 96 pages I think) but it's also the longest period of time.

Very late to read this one, but I really enjoyed it. Amazing story building and I also enjoyed the emotion in the characters. I liked how the romance wasn't the main focus of the book. Looking forward to the next books in the series.

Among Thieves and Half Lives are my #bookspin and #doublespin for the month and finally for #tbrdeckofcards I have Hyde for ‘Retelling‘ and Proof of Murder for ‘Mystery/Thriller‘. @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks @PuddleJumper

Hearing no cries of "oh but it's my favorite, you should keep going!" I'm calling it on this #doublespin book for now. Maybe Priory had as much angst, but it also had a lot more action.

Oh man, i was really excited about this book that I bought from a library sale after reading Shannon's fantastic Priory of the Orange Tree, but it is not similar and I'm really struggling with the narrator... And everything? Is it a mood thing? Has anyone read the series that can tell me how they like the overall arc? Still mulling if I'll finish this #bookspin book...

#WeeklyForecast - I have 7 books out from the library so not exactly sure what I‘m going to read this week.

Wow! I loved this book! I wasn‘t really sure what to expect but once I started, I couldn‘t put it down. I need the next book now! I loved the world building, the fantasy elements and the action. I can‘t wait to see what the next book brings!

I should have known I would love this because I loved Priory of the Orange Tree. And I can‘t believe this was her debut!

This one was a reread because I've been waiting for book #4 (The Mask Falling) to be released and couldn't remember much. 😅 a bit of info-dump but one of my favorites.

This series is my favorite fantasy series. The main character is real, the concept is excellent and the story is well written. Book 4 just came out, so I am rereading the 1st three.

You know those books, that you didn‘t know you needed when you started, but which end up being just the right book for you? This was that book for me. After reading Priory of the Orange Tree, I knew I had to read more by Shannon, and after finishing this, I can feel a new auto-buy-author is making her way into my heart 👌❤️

Ok, so where the hell has this series been hiding and what other books have I been missing out on?

Nothing could make me stop reading this. I flew through it in a day.

Dystopian crack. That's what it is. I already need another fix so I know what I'm diving into next.

Managed to pull out one more book last night to complete another #bookspinbingo line!

“The Bone Season” starts off as a confusing read, as a lot of world-building and paranormal terms are thrown at you. However, the guides in the book were quite helpful. I can‘t even begin to figure out how to describe what happens in this book, but I can tell you that it is fast-paced and an interesting dystopian read. Overall, my favorite part was the relationship between Paige and Warden and I got some mild Six of Crows vibes.

Hey, look! #asexual characters! Thought I‘d signal boost for anyone looking for representation in their fiction.

Lots of other #LGBTQ+ rep in this one, too, it seems. Belatedly stacking!

In the mood for epic fantasy, set in not-too-distant London? This world considers anyone with clairvoyant powers to be “unnatural.” Of course, our heroine is a “voyant” whose rebellious nature gets her in trouble. She looks for mentors, and unexpectedly finds one in an enemy. The world building, character development, and action are strong, if a bit YA.

I‘ve been on a nonfiction tear lately. So now it‘s time for some epic fantasy and historical fiction. Need to balance the heavy stuff! On the left is my #milennialauthor pick for #booked2020. The right side is my oldest #ARC! #beatthebacklist

If you want a great Fantasy with amazing world building, great, memorable characters, and a twisty plot, then pick up the first of Samantha Shannon's series cheap today. Alternate UK / Europe where those with psychic abilities are outlaws and have a complex underworld society... throw in an alien race and political machinations and you get a great novel.

Have the house to myself for a little while so immediately turned on my fireplace app (really wish it was a real one 😫) and settling in to continue my current read. 😊

This was between a pick and a so-so for me. So-so won out because I was confused a lot of the time. If you can remember at least two names for the same thing and who that person is from several pages ago with only their name as a clue, you‘ll love it. The story was good other than that.

I‘m about 12 pages into this and it is not catching my attention. Has anyone read it? Does it get better?

#91 of my year. New goal is 100 by the end of December hehe this year I‘ve read so many great books. I can‘t wait to take an end of year pic of them all on one shelf!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO IMPATIENTLY FOR THIS! I frigging love this series. I love her writing (Priory of the Orange Tree was absolutely fantastic too) but I had almost given up hope for this series to ever be finished. Now hopefully it will finally happen!
