A Year in Provence
A Year in Provence | Peter Mayle
National BestsellerIn this witty and warm-hearted account, Peter Mayle tells what it is like to realize a long-cherished dream and actually move into a 200-year-old stone farmhouse in the remote country of the Lubron with his wife and two large dogs. He endures January's frosty mistral as it comes howling down the Rhne Valley, discovers the secrets of goat racing through the middle of town, and delights in the glorious regional cuisine. A Year in Provence transports us into all the earthy pleasures of Provenal life and lets us live vicariously at a tempo governed by seasons, not by days. From the Trade Paperback edition.

tpixie I want to read this…. 3mo
Gissy @tpixie Apparently this is book #1 in a trilogy according to GR. They are short, this is one is only 207 pages. Book one is more about season in the country. Audiobook is available in my account next month, so I will try to read it because story starts during the month of January. It has good rating in GR 3mo
mabell One of my all time favorites! ❤️🇫🇷 There are others(more stories), but I‘ve always thought of this as a standalone, so no need to feel like you have to read the trilogy 3mo

I have a love affair with books written month by month, covering a calendar year. My copy of this is dog-eared and water stained, and has traveled with a dear friend across the Atlantic, back to the south of France and its place of inception. Despite terrible intrinsically racist lines ("sallow gypsy girls... hissing at one another in competition" and "A lanky blue-black Senegalese loped...") that should be expunged, the descriptions of food win.

I remember I bought Mayle's series of memoirs even before I had finished the tagged. So I actually have 2 copies of this 😍😍

So clichéd if I may end up visiting France on my first trip to Europe... But Provence is MUST for me -
for the vineyards and pastis, for the weekend market, to view one of the ranges of the Luberon and Mont Sainte-Victoire.

I can't wait to read A Pig in Provence for #ReadYourSign ;D

After leaving Avignon, I couldn't pass up an invitation from Peter Mayle to stop by his house in Ménerbes.

In preparation for a picnic near their vineyard (shown in the distance), we made a trip to the market. Fresh vegetables, bread, cheese, and of course rosé, filled our baskets. We're ready for an alfresco feast!

Following Provence, I head to Mont St. Michel to help Dr. Gideon Oliver with his investigation!

My little book nugget is A Year In Provence. It‘s a palate cleanser and it‘s a vacation to a French village. Peter journals his humorous encounters with his neighbors, tradesmen, and visitors.
I felt like I spent a year in France one weekend.

A short account of the charm and peculiarities the British author and his wife encountered during their first year living in Provence. Some humorous anecdotes are told in a conversational style that allows the reader to remotely experience a vacation in the region. Narrated by the author, the audio book was a delightful way to spend 3 hours, but this is not very memorable.

I whipped through this memoir of moving to Provence. Not really a travel memoir, it's more about the small village Peter and his wife move to, their home renovations, and food, naturally. Endearing, funny and hunger inducing. Of his other books, I have only read the Diamond Caper-has anyone read others by Mayle? 5⭐️

LauraBrook Peter Mayle is one of my go-to authors. It's always a feel-good story, interesting, lightly humorous, and I tend to use his work as slump-busters. A Good Year was one of my faves, along with the Provence books. And one of his fiction books was really good too, though I can't remember the name right now. Plus, if you read A Good Year, you can watch the darned good movie adaptation w Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard! 7y

So I just thought i'd share a funny #booknerd #readerproblems kinda story. I was in my reading chair the other day reading when I realized I had shifted position so many times that I was actually upside down. The funny part was I tried to get up and realized I am part turtle 🐢..lol it took some patience and maneuvering to get right side up again😂 anyone else end up in slightly odd positions?

SeeJulieRead I have been so into my reading that I didn't realize I was cutting off all blood flow to a limb! 7y
Dolly My brother took a picture of me reading in a similar position; upside down with my arms under my legs with the book held between my knees. He entered the photo in a competition calling it 'bookworm'. I don't read this way anymore, I was six years old at the time. 📖🐛😊 7y
