Reading this whilst the monsoon is happening outside...
#lettery

batsy Happy monsoon reading! ⛈️ I'm reading The Other while it's pouring outside, seems appropriate 😂 3w
Smarkies @batsy the rains have been kinda brutal these last few days.... But as long as I am indoors with a book - something small to be thankful for. 😁 3w
batsy @Smarkies Yes, brutal is the word. The weekend was spent patching up leaks! But you're right, indoors with a book is a blessing 🙂 3w

I enjoyed Gelman‘s first novel, Class Mom, so this is up next. It‘s also the perfect time of year to read it with Back to School rapidly approaching...not that I want to think about it. 😔 #litsyatoz #lettery

Take my last two reads, add them together, and you‘ve created this book. It‘s a post-pandemic adventure that has a magical element. Everyone‘s escaping the cities. Some people discover they have extra abilities—all those magical creatures are real now. If you‘ve survived The Doom. Sadly, prejudice and evil also survive. So good vs. evil, well told. Ordered book 2!

charl08 Sounds really gripping! 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @charl08 The author has been writing for decades, so she‘s got great skills. That helps, I‘m sure. And yes, I was gripped! I plowed through it very quickly. (edited) 3mo

I need X and Y recommendations for my A to Z challenge!

Texreader Look for the following tags #letterX and #letterY. Lots of great suggestions there. I used XPD for x, a Cold War thriller. It was long and tough to get through, but I made it! And it was ok. I also bought Sue Grafton‘s X book I‘ll save for next year. I‘ve never read her books so it‘ll be a first (edited) 3mo
Texreader For y I chose a free ebook I downloaded called You Can‘t Make Old Friends. First in a series and I liked it well enough I‘d read the next book. It should be an easier letter for which to find books. 3mo

Intriguing prologue to my next book for the #letterY in #litsyatoz

Soubhiville Great quote! 4mo
Texreader @Soubhiville I think it raises a very interesting concept. The quote doesn‘t really go with the book though. At least not yet 4mo

There are lots of things to like in this book, such as the exploration of Natasha‘s life as an undocumented Jamaican immigrant, and Daniel‘s struggles living up to the expectations of his South Korean parents. However, the romance was too much for me – it was unbelievable, cheesy insta-love to the extreme! I rolled my eyes a lot, but that says more about me than it does about the book. If you like whirlwind romances, try it out #LitsyAtoZ #LetterY

KristenDuck I had read Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon... very over the top whirlwind with love. I think it‘s “too” young adult for my taste. 9mo
merelybookish I was willing to roll with it until the end. That did me in. 🙄 9mo
candority @KristenDuck The Sun is Also a Star was WAY more whirlwind, in my opinion (it takes place in a single day)! I didn‘t mind Everything, Everything! It definitely was a whirlwind as well, but it at least had the psychological element to keep me more engaged. 9mo

candority @merelybookish Oh I know! But I did like that the story came full circle with Irene. 9mo
KristenDuck @candority I might skip this book lol 9mo
Reggie Lol, yeah, but she gets deported. So let them have a whirlwind. 9mo
candority @Reggie When you put it that way... 😅 9mo
