Queens of Geek
Queens of Geek | Jen Wilde
Three friends. Two love stories. One convention.Charlie likes to stand out. She s a vlogger and actress promoting her first movie at SupaCon, and this is her chance to show fans she s over her public breakup with co-star Reese Ryan. When internet-famous cool-girl actress Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie s long-time crush on her isn t as one-sided as she thought.Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with her best guy friend Jamie no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about a fan contest for her favorite fandom, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe."Queens of Geek," an empowering young adult novel by Jen Wilde, is all about fandom, friendship, and finding the courage to be yourself.Praise for "Queens of Geek" "Queens of Geek "is an emotional, lively story full of characters that leap off the page and slip their hands into yours, inviting you into a world where the geeks and nerds are royalty and fandom is court. Richly realized and defiantly affirming, Queens of Geek reminds us that adventures and romances aren't limited to archetypes but are, in fact, for all of us. Katherine Locke, author of "Second Position," moderator of #GayYABookClubPraise from the Swoon Reads community: "["Queens of Geek"] was an incredibly compelling read, just because it contained a storyline I ABSORBED, and characters so diverse they were a pleasure to read! . . . Mix that with the romance, self-discovery of self-worth, and all the geeky references, this made for a perfect read! I honestly couldn't put it down, reading late into the night to see what happened next! " Zoie K, reader on SwoonReads.com"I love how interesting the story was and how the author adressed the characters' diversity without glossing over it or making it all about that. . . . It reminded me a little of "Fangirl."" Lizzie, reader on SwoonReads.com"

Ok... diverse, geeky, and ultra heartwarming, did this one feel like it was pandering to what ppl like me wish the world was like? Sure. Was it sweet enough to give me a toothache at times? Sure. But was it also very refreshing with great characters and great representation? Absolutely.

Q❤️ - Queen's of Geek
I loved that this book dealt with so many different issues: Bisexuality, Autism, Anxiety and Social Media to name a few. The only thing that would have made this book better is if it was longer. I wanted more. 😊

What a fabulous book about friends, fans, and how vulnerability can be a strength. Great anxiety rep and LGBTQ+ characters. I read this short YA book in one sitting and highly recommend it. 💗💗💗💗💗

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Throughout this book I found myself laughing and smiling at it. This book had so many parts that were relatable and real. I found myself relating to tay the most, I suffer from social anxiety and personally, I could never walk out on a stage like she did. Tay is brave and by the end of the book, she knows it.

This book was pretty good. I just dont think contemporary romance isn't the best choice for me right now because of going through a break up. If this would have been read at a different time i think it would have a higher rating

This was a fun quick read about three friends going to a SupaCon and not knowing it was going to change their lives in so many ways. Charlie is getting over a bad break up with a costar when she meets her long time crush Alyssa and realizes fast that the crush isn't so one sided. Jamie and Taylor have been friends forever but have never told each other how the truly feel about each other. It was such a cute book! Loved the Fangirl parts!

This book was really cute but was your typical YA romance novel. I did like how it was centered around a comic convention, made it a bit more fun. Nothing really wrong with the story but nothing stood out too much either. It was a simple read and was honestly the kind of read I was looking for.

What I expected: a cute YA romcom set in a convention.

What I got: lesbians, PoC, aspie girls, anti-fat shaming, bisexuals, toxic relationship recovery, bounce houses, fandoms, cosplayers, girls supporting girls, literature changing lives, anxiety, vloggers, video games, living for the moment... Oh, yeah... and a cute YA romcom set in a convention.

This is the book I needed when I was 15. A bit preachy, but a HUGE pick.

Wonderfully fluffy, geeky, diverse read perfect for ComicCon month. I was not as wholly invested in the characters as I wish but I think I can safely chalk that down to a sort of disconnect stemming from being much past 18 years old, pop culture spouting, first/second love. I was really taken by a scene where the character with intense social anxiety met another Aspie, and had a big smile on my face all through the last 30 pages or so.

I loved this so much I immediately made my colleague read it. She did, twice. In two days 😁 Reading books with geeky protagonists like this one always make me so freaking jealous because we don't have anything that comes near the awesomeness of their SupaCon, and also I wish Taylor and Charlie are real and are my friends. Both the romances in this book are sweet, but it's the friendships and fandoms that sold me on this book.

This was a great, feel-good read with lots of minority representation, including an autistic girl and a bisexual girl. I really enjoyed it, and it's one from my #ActuallyAutistic reading list for #AutismAcceptancemonth. (Also I made my husband take this picture, because that's my hair behind the book! XD) Oh! It's also my "friendship" book for #Booked2018, the Litsy Reading Challenge.

Good but not great. Great representation and fun themes (fandom! bi Chinese Australian girl! fat autistic girl with anxiety! friendship!) but the characterization is lacking. None of the characters were fully developed. It also felt a tad preachy--not about anything I wouldn't support but it felt weird and inauthentic to read teens talking like it's a political tumblr post someone ten years older came up with. #QueerBooks #BisexualBooks #QueerYA

Anyone else weirded out when they read a book where you share the same name as a main character?

I'm reading the book that I got from my #BlanketAndABookSwap and one of the main characters has the same name as me!! It's so weird reading a book where the character's nicknames are ones people sometimes call you. She and I are polar opposites but still super similar (booknerd and fangirl anyone?) Thanks again @Jadams1776 💓💗
