Can't Take That Away | Steven Salvatore

Pickpick

(2021) Carey Parker is a genderqueer highschooler and Mariah Carey lamb who dreams of being a diva. Or really, being acknowledged and respected would be nice. Carey has a new boyfriend and a star role in the school musical, but also a queerphobic teacher and an incel bully. It's very YA, but I appreciated its treatment of hate as a community problem, and organized resistance as a strategy.

It has been a target of book banners.

Woof. This book was wrenching in all the best ways. I loved the lyricism of Salama's thoughts and the romance she shared with Kenan. Best have some tissues nearby for this one. #yalit

Why is it I overslept yesterday when I had to be at work and was up at the crack of dawn today when I didn‘t have to be anywhere until 10? Oh well it gave me time to finish this fun mystery featuring the descendants of Watson and Holmes solving mysteries at a Connecticut boarding school. #20in4 #Sharreadathon

Really enjoyed this book. Loved the structure, which carried me along in spite of many pauses to think. Lots of beautiful life truths in here.✨

My weekend reading plans include the last four books on my January #BookSpinBingo board. They‘re also the last two books in the KOTLC series, my #TBRtarot book & another book from my #AuldLangSpine list.

I loved this book. It gives off I Know What You Did Last Summer / Pretty Little Liars vibes.
I made my guess at the beginning and was wrong! I loved Pip & Ravi and how their bond grew.

Day one of #20in4 was super successful - just starting the tagged audiobook, though I‘m not sure how far into it I‘ll read. So far the MC is super annoying, and I have a feeling I‘ll be bailing before long. 😒

Apparently I saved the longest for last, so hopefully tonight‘s shift is nice and quiet so I can make some decent progress. #Jumpstart2023 Sharreadathon
