Such a great book…a must-read IMO. This is a reread for me, so this time I opted for the audiobook.

Jennaree3 They made this into a movie many years ago. Funny enough, I think the girl from twilight was in it 2d
mom2bugnbee I am the one person in the world who bailed on this book years ago. I wonder if I need to give it another shot. 2d
dabbe My favorite book to teach to the 9th graders. LOVE it! The movie is really good, too. It stars a very young Kristen Stewart as Melinda. 🩶🖤🩶 2d

@Soubhiville thanks so much for the #authoramonth winners box! I‘ve been looking forward to the Nicole Chung and Stephen Graham Jones (and have an excuse to read them sooner now having physical copies) - and the rest will be read in their appropriate months later this year. Much appreciated, friend! 🥰📚📬💕

Soubhiville You‘re welcome! I‘m glad you plan to keep participating 🙂. I‘ll be reading Shadow and Bone too, I‘ve had it for a couple years so it‘s about time! 3d

Mehso-so

Meh. Could have done without this novella. It‘s been a long time since I‘ve read the original book and I was excited to be back in this world. However, I was outside of the world for too long and didn‘t really remember anyone or what happened. It‘s probably a it‘s me and not you thing.

So often, especially in YA literature, you see main characters reflect the "chosen one" trope, highlighting extraordinary characters changing the world. Riggs creates a different feel with Leopold, who can be the hero just because of who he is. It reminded me that believing in yourself is its own magic.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Written in prose, home is not a country is a poignant & moving book about finding yourself & loving yourself. It's about making your life, despite the imperfections, 100% your own. And therein living it without dismay over what could have been & instead simply being proud of who you are & grateful for what is.

Can NOT recommend this book highly enough! (Even the acknowledgement section at the end made me cry. This book was just THAT good.)
