Little House Set
Little House Set | Laura Ingalls Wilder
39 posts | 80 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
The Little House books tell the story of Laura Ingalls Wilder, who, with her family, was among the early pioneers of the American west. Born in 1867 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods in Wisconsin, Laura traveled with her family by covered wagon through Kansas, Minnesota, and finally the Dakota Territory, where she met and married Almanzo Wilder. There was deprivation and hard work. Crops were ruined by storms and grasshopper plagues. But there were also happy times of love and laughter, sleigh rides, holiday celebrations, and socials. These nine books, beloved by children for generations, capture the very best of the American pioneer spirit.

In my opinion, these books do a pretty good job of showing #adayinthelife of prairie life. #redroseseptember

Her books, and my aunt, made me a reader. ❤

Tamra Me too, except it was my grandma. 💜 3mo
booklover76 Yes! I even went and got a degree in history because her stories made me curious about the time she lived in. Next thing I know I was reading books on history while my classmates were reading Christopher Pike, etc. 3mo
goodbyefrancie @booklover76 Isn't it crazy how a book can direct your life? I have visited the home before, but not since they built a new museum. Definitely worth a repeat visit! 3mo

For the #favoriteseries challenge on @24in48, I want to share my very old and damaged Little House on the Prairie set. While these are now pretty widely regarded as problematic and the author is much-discussed, for me, this is the series that taught me to love reading. When I was little, my dad would read these to me, until I was old enough to read them to him. They built the foundation of my reading habits, and for that, I am so grateful.

I re-read Little House in the Big Woods earlier this fall and fell in love with Laura Ingalls Wilder all over again.

Found nearly a complete set of the rest in vintage paperback format at a #librarysale today, so I snatched them up and ordered the two I‘m still missing from #BookOutlet

My TBR pile is ridiculously long right now, but I can‘t wait to crack these open.

1. I started with Little House in the Big Woods in 3rd grade and quickly plowed through all but the very last (it‘s hard for a 4th grader to relate to married Half-Pint!)
2. Cake!
3. Writing, knitting & making stuff from paper
4. London. Or NYC. I‘ll need an unlimited budget if anyone wants to contribute! 😉

Little house series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I don‘t think I‘ve given up on a series at least not knowing there was more than one book

I force my sister to read it and then put it on my shelf if I really liked it, until spring cleaning every year and then I go through and eliminate

I do have an offline book club :) we meet at local breweries and low key bars to discuss over beer
Thanks for the weekend chat @CSeydel and @thereadingowlvina

Mshookquilts Longest series- oh so many, but probably Sue Grafton‘s Kinsey Milhone alphabet series placed in Santa Theresa, but based on Santa Barbara. So fun to try to figure out where she‘s really talking about. 2y

1. Little House series—I still have my boxed set & pretty much read anything that comes out about Laura.
2. Mini Cabbage Patch Kids & dollhouse or colorforms; I‘d make up stories in my head with both.
3. Tuna macaroni casserole with crumbled potato chips on top! My dad worked shiftwork & he hated tuna casserole. We could only have it when he was on afternoons. My husband hates it too so I make it when he‘s deployed.

Cmf365 1. Fav childhood book series .... Sugar and Spice by Janet Quin-Harkin 2. Fav book of 2017 ... Stolen words by Melanie Florence, illustrated by Gabrielle Grimard. 3. Most hated literary character ... .??? (I will have to come back to that one) 4. Overrated book series ... I am not a fan of the vast James Patterson collection so I'd choose that, even though people love him 5. I'm new, so I'll be the Litten ;) (edited) 2y

I've had an awful craving to reread this series lately and i found a complete set at an estate sale last week. So many great memories of reading these when I was a kid! I've sped through Little House in the Big Woods and Farmer Boy and I've paused to read my #gameoftomes book, which I'm unexpectedly loving. (Thanks @Rudis !) Can't wait to dive back in to the Prairie though!

DeeLew I have so many great memories of reading these as a child. My mom read them to me when I was really little and we read some of them together. One of the sets of books that kick started my love of reading. I still have my original set! 💜💜💜💜📚📚📚 2y

These are books that were a #childhooddelight for me although these are not the copies that as I read as a child. I bought these for my daughter so that I could share my love of them with her. I had to squeeze in Anne of Green Gables on the top there too. I saw one March Madness Book Bracket pitting Anne vs. Laura Ingalls-I don't think I could root for one over the other! #aprilamazingreads

mcipher I say Anne over Laura, personally. I live both but Anne edges her our slightly. 😉 3y
bookandcat My faves! Did you ever read the Rose Wilder Lane series of books they did? I loved those even more :-) I also adored the Betsy Tacy books. 3y
Ncostell @bookandcat I didn't read the Rose Wilder Lane series or Betsy Tacy. I'll have to check those out. I do have A Wilder Rose on my TBR about Rose Wilder Lane which I need to get to as well! 3y

Another poster reminded me of these books I read AGES ago. I was a rotten child and was grounded one summer. FROM EVERYTHING. I was quite ok with that because I read this series. I actually still have this exact set. I was supposed to be in trouble but I spent that summer in the wilderness 😉

I'm pretty sure these are the only books I have #multiplecopies of. If I buy a new edition of a book, I usually pass the extras on.But the set on the left was mine as a kid, and I found the second set at a yard sale for $1 (!), so I couldn't pass it up. One set stays in my room, the other is in my daughter's. #seasonsreadings2016

ValerieAndBooks At first I thought this was some kind of magic mirror images! 😊. I still have mine from childhood (not boxed set) but my daughter never was interested in reading them. 3y
