This may be the first masked crusader!! With current concerns hopefully some of us still are. Though I‘m not quite as swashbuckling.

“... only succeeded in looking immeasurably sheepish.”
Oops; I think that‘s me ☺️
This was fun once I told my brain to knock it off and stop asking « When is the identity of the Pimpernel going to be revealed? » I‘ve read this before, so I knew who it was ? Interesting to read again after having read A Place of Greater Safety, as well as the Poldark books.
This was a fun short listen.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
They seek him here… They seek him there…. I read this book when I a teenager and revisiting this story I am not sure what to make of it. A grand adventure set during the French revolution with the Pimpernel leading a group of English noblemen rescuing victims from the guillotine. A rip roaring romantic adventure, but written in an overwrought and ornate style and with sexual politics which I find now grinds on me more than when I was younger.
I tend to enjoy classics, but I liked this one more than expected. I liked the sort of melodramatic soap opera feel, & was pleasantly surprised to find Marguerite was really the central character. I'm usually frustrated by plots that could be solved if the characters told each other the truth, but I could see how this could happen in a marriage w/stubborn & prideful spouses. I didn't love the last sequence in France but honestly, the rest was fun.
Yep, just as good as I remembered! The characters are believable and sympathetic, the plot is good, and the story well- told. Something I particularly appreciate is that the hero escapes each situation in a believable manner- the are no crazy coincidences where the hero prevails through a weird set of circumstances. I definitely recommend, and will likely reread it myself again!
Took my book for a walk yesterday! Then promptly got lost in the story and ended up rather sunburnt. Still worth it!

I picked this off my shelf for my next #habitica #modestreadingchallenge read. Absolutely loved this in high school, but don't think I've read it since. Which is a real shame considering a mutual love of this book is how I met my best friend!
I'm excited to see if the book is as good as I remember.
1. Pennsylvania, U.S.
2. N. K. Jemison - I am halfway through The Fifth Season and enjoying her style.
3. Goodreads says my Want To Read Shelf is 180
4. The chaise end of my couch
5. The tagged book is a classic that doesn't get enough love. I plan on rereading it this year to see if it is as good as I remember.
Thanks, @tessavi #littenintro
It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a classic! This was a fun adventure story set in the early days of the French Revolution. I actually became interested in this book due to the Broadway show. I recommend this for fans of historical fiction and I highly suggest you listen to the Broadway soundtrack, it is amazing.

The Scarlet Pimpernel has been excellent so far! It‘s been a long, long time since I‘ve read a classic ( and enjoyed it) and this book has been surprisingly fun! It‘s definitely the book I needed to break up my fantasy burn out.

Hour 5: I'm really fond of this flavor.
"I heard he's fussy with his food." "And eats his breakfast in the nude."

Crime is still my go-read when I need a comforting easy ride, & I appreciate the irony in that! Didn‘t realise there were 45 Agatha Christie movies!

What a fun ride! I found this classic novel delightful and hilarious. I only wish it were longer! 🌺

On my way to France, I decided to continue with classics for the rest of my trip. Emma was so witty, I hoped to find something comical as well. So, next up: The Scarlet Pimpernel! #backpackeurope #classics
We seek him here, we seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven? — Is he in hell?
That damned, elusive Pimpernel

I have some of my favorite #oldcoolbooks on a shelf with some of my old cool stuff. I‘m a bit of a dusty relic collector. I found this library of Reader's Digest Best Loved Books for Young Readers at Goodwill. I just adore the colors & look, though I only have 9 of 12 volumes. Still looking! Volume 2 contains a favorite, The Scarlet Pimpernel. Sir Percy & Marguerite have an unconventional, yet epic, #lovestory ♥️ #litsyclassics
I've been trying to catch up on my reviews and this is the last in my backlog. I quite enjoyed this one though I did find it a bit predictable.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: The inspiration for Batman? A quaint tale of intrigue and mystery. Add in a dose of romance and I was hooked. Ending Fell a bit flat for me though. #Classic #SerialReader #ModernMrsDarcy
Oh my!! 😲 @ForeverNerdy has the sweetest & most talented family! We were so excited to receive two boxes from our pen & reading pals! This isn‘t even all of it, only what I could gather in the pic because my kids confiscated the other things. 😹 We‘re all so impressed with the knitting & crocheting. A big thank you to Krista! 💜💜 Eliel has already written a note.
I love the Serial Reader app- even while reading three other books at the same time. Anyone else read multiple books depending on place and mood? Anyone else love Serial Reader?
Just started my new buddy read! I already love the wit and humour in this book. 5 chapters a week might be torture but it adds depth to the reading and discussion.
So very silly but la! What fun! I love the Scarlet Pimpernel. And now I really want to watch the film. 🤺🌺 #FolioFreaks
So far I've read 8,5 hours for the #24in48 readathon and after I bailed The Outcasts of Time I started with The Scarlet Pimpernel: what a delight!!
I'm having a late start to the #24in48 readathon, but I am ready now! I'm not gonna go for the full 24 hours, and probably not even 12, but I might get in 6 to 8 hours today 😊 This is a stack of books I picked up from the library yesterday 📚 can you tell I like Historical Fiction? 😇
I found this copy on my pew at church today!!

When I need to play nice at work in order to fit in or find ways to make things work I think of this book and how the hero hides, plays nice and gets his way. #survivingdecember
Still working through my #swashbuckling TBR. Karen Savage is a fantastic narrator, look out for this free #Librivox #audio recording.

April Wrap-Up: 11 Audiobooks, 12 print/ebooks, and 10 short stories... My absolute favorite was 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' with its adventure, romance, intrigue and melodrama! Other bookish stuff: Finally caught up w/Game of Thrones TV series, and went to see 'Beauty and the Beast' which I actually liked more than the animated feature! (Image: Bird's Eye View of a Unicorn frap. Tasted like a liquid Airheads Xtremes Bluest Raspberry 🤢)
#aprilbookshowers @RealLifeReading #masked My favorite fighting fop The Scarlet Pimpernel aka Sir Percy Blakeney. I was always bothered at how long it took his wife to figure it out, but marriage was a very different thing at that time I guess.
I feel like I'm admitting to a guilty pleasure when I say that I just *loved* this book! I read it in installments (Serial Reader) and everyday ended on a cliffhanger that added to the excitement! It's adventure, romance, intrigue, and ridiculous levels of melodrama... It also introduces the concept of the masked avenger, the precedent of Zorro and Batman 😉
