Lethal White
Lethal White | Robert Galbraith
Lethal White is the fourth book in the Cormoran Strike series from the international bestselling author Robert Galbraith. "I seen a kid killed]€]He strangled it, up by the horse." When Billy, a troubled young man, comes to private eye Cormoran Strike's office to ask for his help investigating a crime he thinks he witnessed as a child, Strike is left deeply unsettled. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott"€"once his assistant, now a partner in the agency"€"set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside. And during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward

I haven‘t posted here in ages! Time to play catch up. This was one of my airport treat books I got myself. I enjoy the Cormoran Strike books quite a bit and am glad to see JK Rowling‘s breadth. The characters always make or break a murder mystery for me - this has plenty of fascinating, complex people!

Being sick has one advantage... 400 pages read in a day. ☺

The number one reason I love Harry Potter is because of JKR's descriptive language & rich vocabulary. Her Cormoran Strike series is no different. I know that this is supposedly the last, but I hope that, she reconsiders & writes more.

A little longer than I think it needed to be but still an enjoyable mystery. I hope in future the series figures out a way to have a great story without again having the lead female character Robin needing to be “rescued” by lead male character Cormoran. Getting a bit repetitive on that front.

All caught up with the Cormoran Strike series! This one seemed mildly lengthy and a little more confusing near the end with all the many subplots coming together quickly, but I still enjoyed it. Really liking the sexual tension between Cormoran and Robin, even though he is a bit of a jerk when it comes to his female conquests. After reading these all back-to-back, now I feel kind of lost not having another one lined up in the queue.

For day 6 of #30JuneBooks I have 2 bookworm problems in one!
1. I hate when authors change publishers mid-series, and then they change the cover. It's just wrong. 😖
2. I rarely lend books. I lent my sister a stack while she was temporarily sober (Lethal White being one of them) and had to fight her creepy bf to get them back before she sold them for drugs. She did a number on them, including losing this dust jacket. 😑 TMI, but that's life.

Schlinkles Amen to both those things! I don‘t lend books, but my husband will and rarely do they return in the same condition they left. 3w
Rachel.Rencher @Schlinkles Right? Like I feel a little selfish sometimes but people don't seem to have respect for others' belongings. 😕 3w
TheLibrarian I agree with both of those things! I don't even like my husband borrowing a book because he tends to destroy them. 3w
See All 8 Comments
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I feel the same on both of those. 3w
MrT I'm the same. I've even rebought series of books just because of a cover change. 3w
MrT And I've never ever or will lend out my Stephen King collection. Period. That collection is in my will to be donated to a library so at they won't go to a charity bookshop to be split up. 3w
Rachel.Rencher @TheLibrarian I'm so thankful that my hubbs is just as much of a bookworm as I am. I'd even say he's more careful than I am. 😂 2w
Rachel.Rencher @MrT If they make a matching cover for Lethal White I'll seriously replace this one. It holds bad memories now, anyway 😅 2w

This was my May reading. Mediocre at 7 books. I chalk a lot of that up to reading the beast Lethal White! The only book this month to earn a 5-star. I loved it. My favourite of the series.

The two I didn't like at all were Sleepless Night (2-stars) and This Must Be the Place (3-stars). I gave The Wonders of Daniel Green 3-stars as well because I just liked, not loved it. The rest are 4-star reads but Lethal White was the clear winner here! 😉

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego 7 books that's great! 💖📚💖 3w

This is the 4th in the Cormoran Strike series and it‘s just as addictive to read as the previous 3. I always have an issue with series and how the author fills in the ‘new‘ reader with the back story that the committed reader knows/remembers. ‘Robert‘ does a decent job with this, adding details in a natural manner. It would be better if I hadn‘t just inhaled the 3rd book and have everything front and centre in my brain 😂 time for the tv show now

I read about 2/3 of this when it came out, but then "over savored" and couldn't remember the plot details enough to get back into it, so I started anew on audio book. The latest installment of the series did not disappoint, and I appreciated that it didn't have the too over the top gore / shock value of some of the previous installments. I loved being reunited with Strike and Robin!

Ultimate responsibility ALWAYS lies with the woman, who should have stopped it, who should have acted, who MUST HAVE KNOWN. Your failings are really OUR failings, aren‘t they? This was my least favourite of the Cormoran Strike books - which is not to say I didn't like it - just that they will, won't they between Robin and Strike is just dragging on too long and not terribly interesting to me. I did quite like the mystery part of it though.

Full of twists and turns, dark family secrets, blackmail, and murder, this was a great read that was just as complicated as real life. What I really like about these books is that there's rarely a happy ending, and solving the mystery always has complications of its own.

4/5 Took me forever, with two stomach bugs sweeping the family and starting a new job, but I did enjoy this book. Didn't find it as gripping as the others in the series (1st one is my favorite so far), but it held my interest with a complex mystery and some time with two very likable lead characters. I think there's a lot more character groundwork than plot in this installment, but overall I recommend.

650 pages is a LOT! But I‘m glad I stuck with it because I liked this one FAR more than books 2 and 3 in the series. I love Strike and Robin; they are such captivating, real characters and the mystery unraveled in an intriguing way without the gruesome gore of the previous books. Highly recommend!

I'm torn on whether the length was completely necessary, there were times during the first 40% or so when I wondered when it would really get going. But ultimately it turned out to be exactly the kind of complex, well-crafted case you'd expect from this series. For sure a slow burn kind of mystery. For me, it's the chemistry between Strike and Robin that really shines! 🕵️🏻‍♀️🕵️🏼‍♂️

Lethal White is my favorite to date in the Cormoran Strike series. I loved the complexity of the plot and the pacing was spot on. Then the back story of Robin and Cormoran was icing on the cake. I thought I had everything figured out but I was so wrong! It was a glorious slow burn kind of story. 5⭐

Finished this a couple days ago, but forgot to post my review. The mystery/crime was a lot better than the previous installment, and I really enjoyed JKR‘s skewering of the British upper classes. The Robin/Matthew drama was interminable, but natural progression of the Strike/Robin working and personal relationship is the emotional core of the book. I can‘t wait until the next in the series comes out!

I almost gave up on this series but am glad that I read this one. It‘s my favorite of the Strike series. It was refreshing not to have a really grotesque murder scene and I‘m looking forward to Matthew being out of the picture (I hope). The other books tended to have a long spell in which the story seemed stuck but this one kept moving along at a good pace even with the multiple threads.

J.K. Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) continues her amazing streak with Lethal White, the fourth book in the Cormoran Strike series (which I love!). The book beautifully develops a complex mystery surrounding the Chiswell family and a mentally ill man who insists that he's witnessed a murder. (continued in comments)

Unabridged It also does a great job portraying the relationship between Cormoran and Robin (who I ship hard!). Excellent mystery that I both wanted to finish and have had a hard time moving past because I felt so immersed in its characters. 2mo
