We start tomorrow night at midnight! it is time to post your tentative stacks for the weekend. What will you be reading?

Here are my tentative reads for the weekend. I would love to join in on the romance suggestion for this month but I have previous commitments that I need to follow up on. These do look good though 😍

This was the first book I've read in my Mary Shelley obsession and I'm sad to say it was a flop for me.
The author has written a biography on Mary Shelley here and has obviously done some research into her life, but the fact that he decided to write the book from her point of view is extremely disorienting.
I give the author full marks for bravery in his attempt to channel the great Mary Shelley, but unfortunately, I'll pass on this one.

Okay okay I know what you're thinking, how does this book have anything to do with love? But believe me when I say it does. Victor loved the idea of creating his monster. He even loved his monster for a time, but fell quickly out of love with his monster when he realized the abomination that he created. Even more so when the monster started murdering the people Victor loved most. This is a sad tale of love and tragedy. I love it so much 💔

With everything said and done I would recommend this book BUT I would definitely like the author's to flesh it out a bit more and rethink some things. With the copy that I am in possession of, it seems that the book is only half done, but it has great potential! It definitely needs more work before I can fully recommend it.

My goal is usually 300 books a year, but 2020 will be The #YearOfTheChunksters, so I'm going to set my goal at 150 this year.

What's yours? 😃

AsYouWish I usually set my goal for 50, but I am thinking of upping that number this year since I more than doubled that this year. 2mo

LeeRHarry I set my goal at 100 last year - it‘s 1/1/20 here already 😆 - and read 107 - decided not to set a goal this year and see how I go 😊 2mo
Johanna414 I decided not to set a number goal for 2020 for the same reason - I want to get to all those chunksters that have been languishing on my shelves for so long! 2mo
Amandajoy I decided to set my goodreads goal for 12 and increase it little by little when I hit it so I read more of the big books 😊 2mo
emmaturi I am going for 120, I felt I tried to get in as many books as possible as I read 161 last year. I want to slow down my reading! 2mo
Andrew65 I‘m going for 250, good luck with your target and thanks he chunnksters. 😊 (edited) 2mo
CaroPi Last year I went for 60 and I read 61 but this year I will go for 53. This is my standard goal... Otherwise I will not really enjoy my books.... 1mo
RainyDayReading I set mine for 52, which I think is a book a week? Or roughly that amount. Don‘t like to stress too much over the amount but I would love to hit 100 books this year, not including graphic novels or manga. 1mo

I haven't been able to read for a while. So I have been taking original ink drawings that I have recently done, re-sketching them in graphite, and shading them with charcoal.
This seems to be the only thing that brings me solace right now. And I must say, although I am still learning the ins-and-outs of charcoal, I'm never going back to straight lead pencils and ink. ?
This particular one is my version of "Death and the Maiden". It's called Hope.

SumisBooks @greenreads hey sweetie, all you have to do is just read and track your time. You can post your progress periodically using the hashtag #24B42020 or #24B4Monday . The goal is to try to hit 24 hours in that time span but the real goal is just to read and have fun. 😊 2mo
greenreads @TheReadingMermaid Oh, thank you! ☺️ I'll try this too. 2mo

I'm posting this in regards to #Scarathlon and #WinterGames.
I may not have been on Litsy for the past few weeks but I've been on Facebook and I have seen your posts. It seems that some people are really enjoying them while others are more than annoyed. Some are even leaving Litsy because of them.
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

SumisBooks When Cassandra and I first conceived of Scarathlon, it was not to harm our community in any way. Quite the reverse in fact. We thought it would be a great way for people to come together and share a common goal. This had absolutely nothing to do with Litfluence as some of you have stated.
I would like to open up a conversation about them so that we can all discuss them and perhaps future events.
2mo
SumisBooks This is not a thread to complain about anything or to beat anybody up about anything but rather to state your opinion clearly and precisely.
I am bringing this to Litsy instead of the Facebook group because honestly some of you guys can be downright mean on Facebook. DO NOT be mean on this post or I will shut it down. This is our chance to have a civilized conversation about a platform that we love.
2mo
SumisBooks So my questions are these, what exactly do you like about the events? What exactly do you not like about the events? Please explain yourself so that we can do our best to tailor these events in the future. 2mo

ravenlee As a non-participant, here‘s my 2 cents: I‘m sure the games are fun, but the blast of posts makes it hard to find the more strictly book-related posts that I‘m interested in. I won‘t leave over it, but I am a bit less active at these times. I‘m glad to see lots of activity but it‘s not what I come to Litsy for. If I could unfollow the thread on the app it would solve most of my issues, but I haven‘t been able to make that work. 2mo
SumisBooks @ravenlee I know the issue with the hashtag muting which is why I'm putting up this post. Thank you for responding I appreciate your input. 2mo
Scochrane26 I have participated in both games, & I agree that it would be overwhelming for those who aren‘t participating. Even I get a little overwhelmed, esp last week when I was working a lot & didn‘t have as much time on here. If you can mute the hashtag, that‘s a good way to solve the problem. I don‘t mind non-bookish posts & scroll through the games posts (I post those, too). I do enjoy seeing selfies, decorations, & books that people are reading. 2mo
LibrarianRyan Winter games is a lot. So was scared thon. But I don‘t mind it because it‘s ossassional. And people are having fun. Heck I‘m even a team captain. I‘m guilty of mostly paying attention to my team posts and scrolling past most the rest and that is okay. I‘ve had friends mute the hashtag and that is also fine. It‘s not just the games. Throughout the games random things get posted like crazy, it dies down and something takes its place. And that‘s OK 2mo
Scochrane26 Another positive—I joined about a yr ago, but it wasn‘t until I did the bookmark swap & Halloween swaps & games that I really felt part of the community. I had made a few friends before, but I‘ve had more convos & my litfluence had increased by about 3 since October. I‘ve tried out other things like buddy reads & readathons since then. 2mo
RainyDayReading I participated in both and was so excited but then I saw the Facebook posts and now I‘m posting less and feel awful because of how negative the environment is. It seems the games and movies are mostly the problem? So maybe only have us do the games on our captains post and get rid of us reposting them and instead of posting screenshots of movies just keep a list of what we have watched and submit it later to our captain? 2mo
RainyDayReading Or, my group has a slack for the winter games, make a thread in Slack where we can post what shows or movies we watch and get points through there instead of on here? It might help though at this point I really don‘t know. 2mo
imabusybee I've been away for 2 months (MIL had a stroke) and the only thing I see is points this and points that, is anyone reading? I am so lost. I gave myself 100pts for just posting lol. I love this community I'll be more active after the 1st of the year 2mo
imabusybee I didnt even know there was a Facebook group 2mo
ravenlee For the record, I don‘t begrudge anyone the fun of the games, it‘s just really overwhelming for the uninvolved. 2mo
Scochrane26 @imabusybee I didn‘t know there was a fb group either, but I don‘t really spend time on fb. And the points are for reading, too. People get more points for reading than movies, etc. 2mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I tried to mute the #Wintergames and #Scarathon and it shut down my Litsy feed. If the muting function worked appropriately it would be awesome. It is a little overwhelming with all the posts to someone who is not involved. I‘m all for posting “non bookish” posts because I love getting to know my friends and be a small part of theirs lives, but I have to admit that I have been on Litsy less due to the games... 2mo
MoonWitch94 I participated in both. I love it, but it can feel overwhelming. Can‘t imagine how it would feel if I wasn‘t participating. Maybe if the amount of games was limited and new games dropped only weekly that would be better; less cluttered (if that makes sense). Also, as someone previously mentioned, I really like the idea of not reposting everything from the captain so often. We could easily just respond in the original post‘s comments. 2mo
kezzlou85 I've taken part in both and enjoying it but I must admit after reading the Facebook post, I've been more reluctant to post stuff now. I totally get that its overwhelming if not involved. Maybe the participation points could be removed so more comment on the original post rather than reposting each time. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I really like the ideas from @RainyDayReading about finding a way to contain the game & movie posts. I'm enjoying Winter Games a lot & feel like it is overall a fun way to interact with everyone, but I can understand why it would bother some. I wasn't a huge fan of seeing everyone's Halloween movies all of Oct. either, but I just scrolled thru. I really feel like it's a fun way to meet & bond with new people so it seems a shame to just stop. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Maybe if the event was for a shorter period of time, like only ten days or two weeks instead of a full month? Also, thank you for bringing this up. It's a good discussion to have to make sure that people are enjoying their time here instead of being stressed by it. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks As a side note, if the whole muted hashtags issue was resolved, I think it would be a big help. And then maybe instead of everything being under the umbrella of “Winter Games“, having a specific hashtag for the movies and one for the games may help me mute what they don't want. It seems a shame to mute all of Winter Games, because then you can't see any book reviews, either. 2mo
Nessavamusic I‘ve participated in both and had a lot of fun! But I agree with previous posters. Maybe the events should be limited to book related activities to keep with the spirit of Litsy? 2mo
sblbooks I enjoy non-bookish post. If it's something I'm not interested in, I just scroll past. However it would be nice to be able to filter your feed to show only Reviews. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @RainyDayReading I have most of my team do that. I rarely have a game they have to repost. Plus, to be honest it makes it easier for me to not miss anything. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @imabusybee It's called Onward Litsy. It was started when LibraryThing bought out litsy as a way to talk to the powers that be about problems, things we would like to see differently etc. Like most FB groups it has dissolved into a witch session and people using it to air their frustrations. Or at least it was. I don't do FB for these reasons. 2mo
imabusybee @LibrarianRyan Yikes, good to know since I dont have FB my only complaint is Im lost I have no idea whats going on and when I tried to look for it....I fell in a rabbit hole I'll be posting/liking and being more active in 2020 2mo
LibrarianRyan @imabusybee Thats great. Remember some of us old timers like myself, and @mrbook are always willing to chat things out and help you catch up. All you have to do is ask. It may seem crazy now, and complaining, but I think that is just the holidays in general. It's will go back to its positive place once people are not so busy. 2mo
SumisBooks @imabusybee I'm always available to if you ever need help with anything sweetheart. @LibrarianRyan I agree with that too. It seems this year has been really hard on people and perhaps people are anticipating the end of it. 2mo
Stacypatrice I‘m so confused why people are so confused 😂😂😂 The more people in a community, the more complaining there will be 🗣👥 I loved #Scarathlon but don‘t care for Christmas movies or books so opted out of #wintergames. There is nothing confused about scrolling past what we don‘t care for. I‘ve seen some hilarious memes, delicious yummies, and beautiful trees decorated in between adding even MORE books to my TBR pile! Everyone eat a cookie! 🍪📚🍪📚 (edited) 2mo
Scochrane26 I think a major thing that makes Litsy better than other book sites or social media is the swaps, readathons, & other activities. I like book reviews, but I also enjoy the interactions. @imabusybee it took me about 7-8 months before I got more involved in Litsy. Participating in the activities helps. And learning about the litsyhappenings hashtag. I was able to follow more of the long-time people who host most of the swaps/readathons. 2mo
Scochrane26 @Stacypatrice I agree! 😂🍪📚 2mo
imabusybee @Scochrane26 I have been on here since day 1 and have participated in everything up until late October-ish. Like I said in my first post I was just lost but Thanks I am all caught. This might not have been the right place to voice my opinion or that I was confused about the games.. 2mo
Scochrane26 @imabusybee 😂 I didn‘t look at your profile until I saw this last comment. You have been on here a long time! Anyway, it did take me awhile to figure things out. 2mo
jessinikkip Having participated in both, I can understand it can be a LOT of posts with the games. But having something like the Scarathlon in October really helped keep me in a better place by giving me goals to work on. Same with these winter games. Although I'm not doing quite as well as in October because holiday stress is taking me down ( sorry, @LibrarianRyan ). I think if muting tags worked, it would help people not participating 2mo
LibrarianRyan @jessinikkip you are doing fine. And I agree on the holiday stress thing. 2mo
Shakespearience I participated in both and while sometimes I found the number of games overwhelming, over all I just participated to the extent I was comfortable with participating. So like I've watched a few movies, but not many, and I have actually found myself reading more as part of the challenges and looking into genres I might not have otherwise. I do agree with others about how long they last (a few weeks vs a month) 2mo
Shakespearience That being said, I feel like I've made more connections and had more fun with these kinds of events vs what I get on other social media platforms. It makes it feel like a real community. I have never gotten as many holiday cards as I did this year thanks to WG. While I can imagine it gets frustrating having to scroll through all the bingo games and such, even as a player, to me it's part of the fun seeing everyone else going for it. 2mo
megnews I‘m late to the party on this post. I don‘t follow the fb page. I really like @RainyDayReading suggestion to put all the non-book related stuff on a team captain‘s post, games & movies. I didn‘t want to mute the tag because I want to see Christmas book reviews. I like Litsy for its book focus but there have been some other cute memes, jokes, etc but it got to be a bit much. However I don‘t begrudge others fun & try to be positive & keep scrolling 2mo

What are you currently using as a bookmark? 🤔

Prairiegirl_reading It‘s honestly an actual bookmark! I live on the wild side! 😜 2mo
melissajayne Library slips from my requests mainly. 2mo
SaturnDoo An old lottery scratch off ticket in one book(only thing I could find at the time😂), the other books have actual bookmarks in them. 2mo

Scochrane26 I actually have bookmarks, partly thanks to the bookmark swap a few months ago. I try to change them around because I have so many. Current fave is one from the Grand Canyon. 2mo
CaitZ For once it's a real bookmark. I usually use whatever bit of paper is laying closest to me at the time. 2mo
Ladyval05 The due date slip from the library. 2mo
RamsFan1963 A business card from the local used book store 2mo
SupTeaReadBooks I‘ve managed to get myself into the habit of using bookmarks - usually the magnetic or clip type. Back when I used the library a lot I collected other people‘s abandoned ad hoc bookmarks though (real bookmarks and photos I handed in). I have a scrapbook somewhere. (edited) 2mo
jessinikkip For the first time in a while, I'm actually using a real bookmark! I lose bookmarks like CRAZY but found one at my library yesterday for free 2mo

I meant to post this weeks ago and I'm so sorry that I haven't but I've been dealing with mental health issues.
@Stacypatrice I appreciate this card and letter so very much. 🌺 You have no idea. Thank you so very very much sweetheart. It means the world 🌎 to me, it really does. Love your heart girl! ❤️🤗❤️

Stacypatrice You‘re fantastic!! Taking care of you is number one. The most important rule in mental health care is “eat a cookie when you feel the urge.” Wait... that‘s MY rule. Either way, I‘m over here cheering you forward Tamara! I support you and care about you. Hugs 🤗 2mo

I just learned that one of my friends on Facebook was planning to commit suicide last week. He was saved by a friend that simply showed up and took him out of his element for a while. She didn't even know he was struggling.

Remember, simple little gestures of kindness can be the difference between life and death at times.

You are not alone. There is always someone who will be there for you. ❤️

#SuicideAwareness

Scochrane26 Suicide is scary. As a therapist working w/ kids, it‘s scary how young they can start having thoughts & attempts. We screen all the time, but a lot of times, it comes out of the blue. 3mo
SumisBooks I'm also dropping this for whoever needs it. You can look up phone numbers by country... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines 3mo
AmyG The holiday season can be so hard. @Scochrane26 my daughter is a school counselor in not a great area. It takes a toll dealing with young, suicidal kids. Heartbreaking. 3mo

Scochrane26 @AmyG yes, it does take a toll, it‘s a lot of responsibility. I typically work in not great areas, too. Our area has added a lot more mental health people into the schools, so hopefully, each kid or teen has someone to go to. 3mo

I'm trying so hard to focus on this. Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been that active on Litsy recently. Well it's because a lot of dirt has been kicked up recently and things have been said that have really hurt my feelings. I won't go into detail, but needless to say, I just don't need crap like past events being rehashed on a public forum where people think I can't see. It's not kind. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

SumisBooks In fact it's downright mean. We need to remember that we are living, breathing human beings behind our screens and we should be treating each other with love and compassion. As readers we should remember that words hurt. And that hurt is real. Let's all try to keep our posts and comments positive and loving towards 1 another. Trying to stay positive myself. 3mo

Skeebies05 And Litsy is supposed to be a place of positivity! I‘m sorry that happened to you. 🤗 hugs. 3mo
nelehelen I‘m so sorry for what you‘re going through. There will be negative people everywhere and it is incredibly disappointing to see that happen in this online community. I agree we should all be much kinder to one another. You have my support and love! ♥️ 3mo
MoonWitch94 My heart breaks to hear this. This community is supposed to lift up each other—especially because we should understand the power & magnitude of words. I am so sorry to hear this. Sending love & peace to you. ♥️☮️ 3mo
Kimberlone Sorry to hear! I always enjoy your content and positivity on Litsy! #Scarathlon made my October more enjoyable than usual as I‘m not a huge Halloween person usually. Please stick around! 3mo
JacqMac I noticed you‘ve been missing. I hoped it wasn‘t because of something awful. I‘m sorry this happened to you. I don‘t like it when Litsy goes bad. It‘s supposed to be a safe and happy place. You are valued and you are missed. Many hugs. 💕 3mo
SaturnDoo ❤Keep your head held high. You bring so much fun and positivity to your fellow Littens. There are more of us who love, miss and appreciate your beautiful face 🤗 than the few bad apples trying to bring you down. You're our breath of fresh air 🌬 and our rays of 🌞 Keep 😊 and carry on my friend❤❤❤ 3mo
Prairiegirl_reading Personally we haven‘t interacted that much but my theory is post what you like and have fun. Let the complainers be miserable. It‘s really easy to scroll past what we don‘t like but those people chose to criticize. What a miserable life. Don‘t let anyone dull your sparkle. 🤗 3mo
Stacypatrice 🤗💖🤗💖 3mo

Laughterhp I‘m sorry to hear this. I think you‘re great. Sending positive vibes 💚💚 3mo
IamIamIam Aww, that's unfortunate!! Don't let other people's meanness affect something you love! I know it's hard to focus on the good when you're stuck in the mire but you're bigger and better than whatever is dragging you down. 🤗 3mo
Mimi28 I love this place and I am heartbroken 💔💔that this happened to you!! I post a ton of personal stuff on here and get nothing but support back that‘s why I am so shocked. What book did you write? May I check it out? I‘m sure it‘s AWESOME!! Bullies are usually jealous and see something in you they wish they had- or had the guts to have. I hope this community is respectful from here on out. Just know that people who support you are the majority ❤️❤️ 3mo
Soubhiville ❤️ I appreciate you and hope to see you here again soon. 3mo
Cailey_Mac Awww I‘m sorry that happened to you! I really do think people forget that there are humans on the other end of the comments section, and (hopefully) wouldn‘t be so rude and just plain mean if said in person; I know it‘s happened to me in a different book group, and it was really disheartening as you think you‘re in a safe place to express yourself and bam! Definitely stick around, don‘t let them win with their careless comments💕 3mo
Eggs Yes, doll, I‘ve wondered what happened! I miss you 😘 I hate to hear of negativity and meanness on Litsy😳! Remember, those who matter, don‘t mind. And those who mind, don‘t matter. 3mo
NeedsMoreBooks I am sorry to hear that you faced such negativity. Sending love, hugs, and positive vibes. I hope that you will be here ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 3mo
Jesstifies Aww man! I had so much fun during Oct with you and the scarathlon! I hope you‘re feeling good today despite the challenges! :D 3mo
AnansiGirl Your absence has been noticed. So sorry you‘re dealing some negativity atm. Sending you light and hugs to cheer you up. 💖🤗 3mo
4thhouseontheleft That is too bad you are feeling anguish over this. As for my part, what I said was done publicly with full knowledge and hope you would see it. I had a lot of questions from participants over the similarities and confusion between the names of screamathon and scarathlon names, and decided to let people know publicly that I had asked you back in July to change the name of your challenge so it wouldn't be confusing to people. ⬇ ⬇ 3mo
4thhouseontheleft I only did so, not because I don't like scarathlon, I participated and had fun, but because Screamathon had already been happening for 3 years, and I wanted to prevent confusion. I thought a simple hashtag name change before the challenge launched would have been easy. Yes, there was negativity towards both challenges after they wrapped...to each their own. I just ignore and move on. If anything I said was taken as you by a personal insult, ⬇ 3mo
4thhouseontheleft I apologize, as that was not the intention. 3mo
SumisBooks @4thhouseontheleft oh sweetheart nothing you did offended me in any way. You are just fine honey. Love your heart ❤️ 3mo
