I wanted to read this book for a long time because it is well recommended. I liked but didn‘t love it. I think is too unnecessarily long but I never felt bored because you want to know about these characters. It is about this selected group of unlikable students who attend this special program of classics with this eccentric professor. A murder occurred and you know who did and how from the beginning of the story.⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) So this is a character driven story. I don‘t know about that ending. But I like that academia aspect of books and quotes. It was well written but too long with not much happening, it goes around and around of these guilty destructive feelings experience in different ways by each character. Like a Greek tragedy, no hope just self destruction. The author is the narrator in the audiobook. 3.75⭐️ 2mo

What did you love or not about this novel? Was it too long?

AmyG I viewed this as a family saga. Also, historical fiction. 2mo
Amiable Ha ha! I‘m the #ChunksterChallenge lady. No such thing as too long. 😀 I love a good literary multigenerational novel. (edited) 2mo

Bookwormjillk Not too long for me! I didn‘t want it to end, and might read it again before the year is over! 2mo
Mitch I loved the length. I love getting fully immersed in the book - the multi generations and the links between peoples lives. I think I felt really ‘satisfied‘ by the end - which tells me it was probably just the right length! 2mo
Mitch I loved the strength of the female characters. They were resourceful and inventive - resilient and optimistic. I loved the level of description- enough to put you there but not enough to put the story on hold 2mo

August review😳
This is a re-read for me. As expected, I loved not maybe as some previous books but I still think this is a well developed magic world with wonderful characters. The audiobook has an amazing narrator. 4.5⭐️

This is the 3rd book of the Kingsbridge series but could easily be read as a stand alone. Wonderful prose and great characters make this historical fiction a must read. Good enough that I know I will reread this in the future. 5⭐️

After hearing wonderful things from my reading friends at work I‘ve been working on this chunkster mini all year. I‘m sad to say I just thought it was okay. There were too many divergent stories at the beginning and by the time they came together it seemed like an afterthought. Sorry Priory lovers, this one just wasn‘t for me. #ChunksterChallenge

Amiable I‘ve wondered about this one after seeing all the love for it —glad to see your take on it. 7mo
janeycanuck I agree. We‘re listening to this on audio while we travel. I keep falling asleep. 6mo

I couldn‘t help starting this one yesterday, then I‘m up till 8am this morning finishing it! It was intense, intriguing & obviously, very addicting. But I did have some issues with it, which I‘ll be explaining in Spoiler comments below👇👇👇 #Booked2023 #Featuring3Generations #FourFoursIn23 #WombatCombat #ChunksterChallenge #Pantone2023 #GreyedJade #ReadySetRead #52BookClubRC #BookspinBingo

Lizpixie While I loved the story & the setting, the author is as good as Jane Harper in making the place a character, she also does the same with the time it‘s set in, I had issues with the characters! Two were extremely gullible & weak & the other was one of the most manipulative MCs she‘s ever written. Which isn‘t really an issue, my problem is that she got away with everything she did with not even a single blame in sight! If that was my parent, 👇👇👇 7mo
Lizpixie you bet your arse I‘d be blaming her for everything!! And that the real murderer got away with what she did and the poor murdered mother was left with the blame still. And the ending was a bit of an anticlimax honestly. But don‘t get me wrong, it was still an enthralling read. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7mo
Cinfhen I used to love Kate Morton / definitely adding this one to my RIDICULOUS TBR 7mo
