Saturday morning riding lesson ... not me, my daughter... Saturday morning mummy time! Been meaning to read this for ages... just hope it's better than my last read 😉☕️🍫📚🐎

Not for me! I don't like to be too critical....who am I to criticise an author... but this felt rushed, cliched and the relationships were unhealthy and toxic... just not my cuppa tea at all. Although apparently the rest of the Twisted series is better...?

Waiting for my daughter as she is at her tutor and getting some reading in.... sadly, so far, the coffee is much better than the book... but I'll persevere.... apparently it gets better🤷‍♀️

Currently reading non-fiction- 'Madhouse at the End of the Earth' ... bit different for me but enjoying it. Currently listening to 'When He was Wicked' by Julia Quinn (Francesca's story) on Audible .... good for the commute as not too taxing ❤️

Because I'm an English Lit teacher there are an absurd amount of books I've reread an absurd amount of times, but purely for pleasure I've read Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry multiple times. I've also read Wonder by RJ Palacio both in school and at home with my own kids 💛

My current guilty pleasure read!!! It's a rainy morning at my daughter's horse riding lesson and this book and a good coffee are entertaining me as she canters about.

Beautifully told stories- I loved the structure and the subtle way the female characters were placed at the fore of stories that often saw them subjugated and exploited. This is definitely worthy of a spot in your library. Also, matching my nails to my read!!!

Ok, I may seem a little obsessed with this (I am) but I would love to know others opinions on book/ TV adaptation. It's on Apple TV and I've just finished. I'm so divided ... would highly recommend though 💛👍

mcctrish I have read the book ( god I love the cover) and I keep forgetting there is a show. I did like the book a lot 1mo
lauraisntwilder I've only seen the first two episodes. I'll report back when I'm finished! 1mo

RobES @lauraisntwilder are you loving 'the imp' as much as I did.... I'm a massive Hiddleston fan and did not expect to fall in the love with Dr Garrett! 1mo
lauraisntwilder @RobES I liked Dr. Garrett in the book, because I felt sorry for him that he loved Cora so much without understanding her at all. He's much better looking in the show than I pictured him! 1mo
jlhammar I really liked the book, but haven't tried the adaptation yet. Definitely interested. 1mo
AllDebooks I adored the book but haven't seen the series yet, despite being a huge TH fan 2w
RobES @AllDebooks it's def worth a watch... it made me look at Dr Garrett differently and I thought TH was a good Will Ransome ❤️ 2w

I ended up really enjoying this; I was very unsure at the start, it is very surreal and I didn't really get it, but by the end I fully embraced it and loved it. In an odd way it portrays childhood as an adult looking back, not in a tangible way but in a misty memory way. It also isn't for kids, although I have passed it on to my 15 year old son as we are going to see the National Theatre production. I think it would be ok for a mature teen.

Nebklvr I still have questions about the ending 1mo
RobES @Nebklvr me too!!! Did Lettie ever 'return'? Did he ever go back to the farm again??? 1mo
Nebklvr Was it his funeral? 1mo
RobES @Nebklvr ohhhhhh! I did not get that! 🤯 1mo
Nebklvr Not sure i did either!! Just confused. 1mo

Not good! Well...not for me... I love a good feminist retelling of a Greek myth but this is not a Madeline Millar or Jennifer Saint! Some spice, but even that is bland (irony not lost on me). Maybe I'm too old for this... but I don't think even a younger audience would appreciate being portrayed as these characters are throughout the novel.

Just finished two rereads and I can honestly say these are two of my favourite books. The language of 'The Scarlet Letter ' is so gorgeous and rich and the message of human frailty so beautifully told, it lingers with the reader long after you've finished it ❤️

Honestly, I found this hard going ... by the end I had warmed to it a little but it was too cliche for me and although I like a slow burn, there were times this felt needlessly repetitive.

This is worth plowing through for the (literally) explosive ending! It feels like a lot of convoluted plotlines in one novel and (this may be an unpopular opinion) I don't love S.J Maas's writing.... However, I appreciate the worlds she builds and the characters that I feel invested in ... so def worth a read, especially if you like/love the ACOTAR series.

Summer TBR ☀️ I'm trying to incorporate some non fiction.... would love some good recs 👍💛

tokorowilliamwallace Regarding nonfiction, I just like to experiment and explore various miscellaneous subjects, pick up something that sounds fun and interesting that's available. Takes the fun out of it to pick up or look for something specific, usually. Unless I'm in the mood. 2mo

Wonderful- atmospheric and beautiful...in an unsettling way. If you liked 'The Essex Serpent' you will most likely enjoy this. It satisfied my love of marshes, estuaries, sea salt and screaming gulls.
