A gothic atmosphere with a clever suspension of tension, I enjoyed this, but it fell a bit flat with it‘s rushed ending. The high tech home management system was a fun addition, and Rowan made for a believable narrator. But I started to feel some of the tropes of the genre got repetitive. Unsettling noise here…unexplained doors/windows opening there…creepy kids, unfriendly housekeeper etc. A fun read, but not particularly memorable or unique.

Cinfhen Yeah, Ruth Ware isn‘t a favorite of mine 😬 2y
KarenUK @Cinfhen Her writing is fine… just no surprises with the stories, and the characters aren‘t memorable enough. I‘m just over mystery thrillers right now. I think🤷‍♀️.Except I can‘t wait to read the third murder club! Those characters are just lovely! 💕 2y
Cinfhen Agreed about the Thursday Murder gang/ it‘s the characters more than the mystery that keeps you so engaged!!! 2y

I enjoyed this a lot more than book 3 - less graphic, several fun situations (bugging the House of Commons, anyone?) & much more Robin and Corm. As always, Robert Glenister does an amazing job with the audio.

But I‘m stepping away from this series now before it starts to annoy me. This one was overlong as it was - afraid 900 pages of less-than-comfortable reading in print because I don‘t use audible any more is just not happening. So long, C & R!

Cathythoughts I really liked Robin and Corm in the one I read … but tooooo long. Too time consuming. 2y
rockpools @Cathythoughts Exactly that. It‘s a great dynamic - but in all honesty, I‘m not that bothered about the murder storylines, certainly not 23-hours-bothered, so… Onwards! 2y

erzascarletbookgasm It‘s been so long since I last finished book 3, I‘ve sort of forgotten the complex relationship between Robin and Cormoran. I don‘t know if I‘ll pick this up 🤔 2y
rockpools @erzascarletbookgasm I did enjoy it. But feel like I‘m ending on a high note, stopping here. 2y

2nd in the Tuva Moodyson series finds the deaf reporter abt to leave the small town for a job in the city, but a suicide at the local liquorice factory followed by a gruesome murder leads to Tuva investigating but putting herself jeopardy. A good series although ending felt a bit hurried. However nothing like a snowy Sweden as spring in England blooms.

Cinfhen Spring in England sounds very delightful 💜 2y

Another fun murder mystery from the Grand Dame Agatha Christie. I wasn't certain who-dun-it, but I had my suspicions and I was correct. If I learned anything from trying The Mysterious Affair at Styles on audio, it is that I need to actually read these books to help keep the people straight. Sure, I needed a cheat sheet early on to help me remember who each person was in relation to the others, but it all came together for me ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick about 1/3 of the way into it. Hercule Poirot is smart with a bit of jaded sass that I find quite enjoyable. I can't say this gave me a good sense of place within Egypt since we're on a boat and all, but it was an interesting journey down the Nile.

Cinfhen You‘re doing such an AWESOME job with the #Pantone22 matches 🙌🏻 2y
Cinfhen And all your other challenges too 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I can't imagine listening to Christie (or any mystery, really!) on audio! I would get lost sooo fast! 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Cinfhen Thanks! Not gonna lie...I may have swatches saved on my phone and open my art app to make collages and check for matches. 😁 2y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheAromaofBooks Christie on audio wasn't one of my finest ideas, but we live and we learn! 🤣 2y

A soft pick for me as I enjoyed the originality - it definitely catches you in the beginning. However, it tried a little too much to be clever for me and I felt at times that I was being "lectured" to. However, there were definitely twists on top of twists.
Read for #amurdermystery for #booked2022

Cinfhen I‘m intrigued 😜 2y
Smarkies @Cinfhen give it a go! One of the more original books I have read in a while. 2y

I read “thrillers” for the unputdownable, gotta find out the ending, feeling. This one didn‘t deliver that, though it was cohesive. Rich, unlikeable, spoiled brats fight to inherit their parents‘ wealth. Forgettable and it took me forever to listen to, a sure sign I didn‘t enjoy it. So-so, but could be a pan 🤷🏼‍♀️

Booksarelifeaddict Oh no!! I just bought this book! Good thing it was a thrift book so I only paid 3 bucks lol 2y
Chelsea.Poole @Booksarelifeaddict maybe it‘ll work better for you! Don‘t let my negative Nancy review discourage you! 😆 2y

I enjoyed this and have already put the second book on hold; but was this originally some sort of Harry Potter fan fiction? There is no magic, but I spent a great deal of the book thinking about who/what felt like HP rather than solving the mystery. #Booked2022 #amurdermystery

Cinfhen Interesting!! I tend to do that sometimes too when I‘m reading a retelling/ reimagining 2y
Bookzombie @Cinfhen Yes, I saw a blurb that said something about Harry Potter so that may have put it in my head. 2y

I love Agatha Christie. She really is the queen of detective fiction! I still have another book slated for #FoodandLit #Egypt this month by an Egyptian feminist author that should give me more of a feel for the country, but I definitely had fun with this month‘s buddy read. #Booked2022 #AMurderMystery #BBRC Adult a cozy mystery #PopSugar2022 #Features2Languages
