I am now in the camp that, for me, the only way to read Tolkien is an audiobook. My brain glazes over all the long lists of names and the songs and plodding plot. But, if it‘s an audiobook with the charming Rob Inglis (or Andy Serkis!) reading it to me, I can be present in the story. #pop23 #bookaboutavacation

Ruthiella I love audio books. They are a great resource. 9h
MissHel @Ruthiella me too! I need to have one waiting for me or I‘m all twitchy! 9h
RaeLovesToRead I love the idea of LOTR as a vacation! 😄💕 9h
BarbaraBB I‘ve never made it through LOTR. Maybe I should do audio too now

HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!
I am hype because no chonky bois! I also find it funny that my doublespin is a collection of stories because this month my book club is story collection themed as well. Now I just have to decide if once I finish the tagged do I immediately read the other two.

I‘ve decided to try my hand at TLOTR series again. I‘m a little over halfway through, and some parts I enjoy while others I find a tad boring. It is my goal though to read the entire series throughout the course of the year. This may just be one of those cases where I actually like the movies better (very rare for me).

2023 reading goals!

I will be setting a specific number of books I want to try to read in 2023 on NYE, but more generally speaking I just want to keep reading as much as I can! I also want to take part in a few different Litsy events - like #BookSpinBingo every month with @TheAromaofBooks ✅️

But even as it fell it swung its whip, and the thongs lashed and curled about the wizard's knees, dragging him to the brink. So I still didn't finish Fellowship yesterday & I started feeling bad & guilty about that...but I didn't finish because I was relaxing/eating/chatting with my family, so how silly of my brain to try to make me feel guilty about it😂

Anywho, maybe I'll finish Fellowship today, maybe I won't - either is okay😊 The goal is to enjoy reading however much I end up doing of it❤️

#WinterReadathon

quote
Moll

'Yet Frodo began to hear, or to imagine that he heard, something else: like the faint fall of soft bare feet. It was never loud enough, or near enough, for him to feel certain that he heard it; but once it had started it never stopped, while the Company was moving. But it was not an echo, for when they halted it pattered on for a little all by itself, and then grew still.'

#WinterReadathon

'Hobbits must stick together, especially Bagginses. All I ask in return is: take as much care of yourself as you can, and bring back all the news you can, and any old songs and tales you can come by.'

I didn't finish Fellowship yesterday but I now only have ~120 pages left so I'm hopeful that I can today!

I want to listen to a bookish podcast & start another book today too!

It was great to see the difference between the movie and what was and was not included. Some chapters had a hard time keeping my interest but when it got moving it was great. “Not all those who wander are lost”

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.'

#WinterReadathon

quote
Moll

'They spoke no more of the small news of the Shire far away, nor of the dark shadows and perils that encompassed them, but of the fair things they had seen in the world together, of the Elves, of the stars, of trees, and the gentle fall of the bright year in the woods.'

I am back at my parents for the next few weeks to celebrate the Christmas period with my family, and I plan to have a great time reading!!

Getting sick in December really threw me off on the reading front (boooo), but I am getting back on it and starting by finishing Fellowship🥰

Can anyone recommend any good readathons going on right now that I could join in with?😊

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @andrew65 probably has one going on! @TheBookHippie too! 2mo
Andrew65 Hope you‘re recovering well, love the cover of the books.
We are in the middle of the #WinterReadathon which lasts until 5th January. You can set your own goals, read anything you want to and is a really relaxed and informal Readathon.

This is the link for information on it. You‘d be very welcome to join and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

The long journey from Rivendell into the empty lands of Eregion had been hard on the hobbits, & Gandalf looked upon them with concern.
"Aragorn, I fear we may have overtaxed the Shirefolk by walking them into this wilderness."
At that moment, Boromir cried, "Look ahead! It's the last outpost of the Gondorian Gelato Guild!"
Weakly, Merry stretched out his hand; "Double scoop mint choc chip, please".
"What?" said Pippin disappointedly, "No flakes?"

Just starting this. I‘m working a ton extra right now as we are beginning the school year, and it has been such a restful break. I‘m really enjoying the meandering and tangents that drove me off as a tween. The playful but kind of withdrawn tone reminds me of Jane Austen (also Bilbo‘s insult gifts 😆), and I can see why people reread these often. I‘m already looking forward to coming back and having different details jump out on the next reading.
