I am now in the camp that, for me, the only way to read Tolkien is an audiobook. My brain glazes over all the long lists of names and the songs and plodding plot. But, if it‘s an audiobook with the charming Rob Inglis (or Andy Serkis!) reading it to me, I can be present in the story. #pop23 #bookaboutavacation
HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!
I am hype because no chonky bois! I also find it funny that my doublespin is a collection of stories because this month my book club is story collection themed as well. Now I just have to decide if once I finish the tagged do I immediately read the other two.
It‘s -13 here in NE WI and I need to keep my hands busy. This was appropriate! The color way is “Autumn at the Last Homely House” by Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm. I think I‘ll make a cowl.
You know, I‘m enjoying Tolkien much more in audiobook than otherwise. #pop23 #bookwithavacation
Starting off #sharreadathon this morning with my continuation of #tlotr series 🧙🏻♂️such a beautiful way for her to be remembered ❤️
I‘ve decided to try my hand at TLOTR series again. I‘m a little over halfway through, and some parts I enjoy while others I find a tad boring. It is my goal though to read the entire series throughout the course of the year. This may just be one of those cases where I actually like the movies better (very rare for me).
“Don‘t adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story.”
Ladies and gentlemen, she has finally FINISHED!!
I looooooved it - the world that Tolkien builds is so impressive and I love hobbits so much, bless their little souls🥰
Now to decide what to read next!

'Great trees passed by like ghosts, thrusting their twisted thirsty roots through the mist down into the water.'

2023 reading goals!
I will be setting a specific number of books I want to try to read in 2023 on NYE, but more generally speaking I just want to keep reading as much as I can! I also want to take part in a few different Litsy events - like #BookSpinBingo every month with @TheAromaofBooks ✅️

'For such is the way of it: to find and lose, as it seems to those whose boat is on the running stream. But I count you blessed, Gimli son of Glóin: for your loss you suffer of your own free will, and you might have chosen otherwise.'
#WinterReadathon
'She shone like a window of glass upon a far hill in the westering sun, or as a remote lake seen from a mountain: a crystal fallen in the lap of the land.'
#WinterReadathon I truly AM going to finish Fellowship today because I only have about 20 pages left now😍
'All the while that they dwelt there the sun shone clear, save for a gentle rain that fell at times, and passed away leaving all things fresh and clean. The air was cool and soft, as if it were early spring, yet they felt about them the deep and thoughtful quiet of winter. It seemed to them that they did little but eat and drink and rest, and walk among the trees; and it was enough.'
#WinterReadathon
'"What did you blush for, Sam?" said Pippin. "You soon broke down. Anyone would have thought you had a guilty conscience. I hope it was nothing worse than a wicked plot to steal one of my blankets."'
#WinterReadathon
'The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.'
#WinterReadathon
'With a terrible cry the Balrog fell forward, and its shadow plunged down and vanished. But even as it fell it swung its whip, and the thongs lashed and curled about the wizard's knees, dragging him to the brink. He staggered and fell, grasped vainly at the stone, and slid into the abyss. "Fly, you fools!" he cried, and was gone.'
Is there REALLY a more iconic scene?? I think not
'As if it were a breath that came in through unseen doors out of deep places, dread came over him.'
#WinterReadathon
So I still didn't finish Fellowship yesterday & I started feeling bad & guilty about that...but I didn't finish because I was relaxing/eating/chatting with my family, so how silly of my brain to try to make me feel guilty about it😂
Anywho, maybe I'll finish Fellowship today, maybe I won't - either is okay😊 The goal is to enjoy reading however much I end up doing of it❤️
#WinterReadathon
'Yet Frodo began to hear, or to imagine that he heard, something else: like the faint fall of soft bare feet. It was never loud enough, or near enough, for him to feel certain that he heard it; but once it had started it never stopped, while the Company was moving. But it was not an echo, for when they halted it pattered on for a little all by itself, and then grew still.'
#WinterReadathon
'Hobbits must stick together, especially Bagginses. All I ask in return is: take as much care of yourself as you can, and bring back all the news you can, and any old songs and tales you can come by.'
I didn't finish Fellowship yesterday but I now only have ~120 pages left so I'm hopeful that I can today!
I want to listen to a bookish podcast & start another book today too!
#WinterReadathon
It was great to see the difference between the movie and what was and was not included. Some chapters had a hard time keeping my interest but when it got moving it was great. “Not all those who wander are lost”
'I have crossed many mountains and many rivers, and trodden many plains, even into the far countries of Rhûn and Harad where the stars are strange.'
#WinterReadathon
'All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.'
#WinterReadathon
'They spoke no more of the small news of the Shire far away, nor of the dark shadows and perils that encompassed them, but of the fair things they had seen in the world together, of the Elves, of the stars, of trees, and the gentle fall of the bright year in the woods.'
#WinterReadathon
'Don't adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story. Well, it can't be helped. I wonder if it's any good trying to finish my book? But don't let's worry about it now - let's have some real News! Tell me all about the Shire!'

I'm thankful for so many of my presents this year but I especially love my new boots😍 And in general at Christmas I'm most thankful for the chance to spend time with my family💗
Merry Christmas/Boxing Day all!!!
I am very much going to be reading as much as I physically can this week, and I'm going to post my goals for each day on here!
TODAY I will finally finish Fellowship!

❤️💚❤️💚 Okay, I would ABSOLUTELY love to have a holiday party with the hobbits from Tolkien's Middle Earth! All that food! Frodo and I would exchange books as gifts, and Samwise and I would exchange potato dishes as gifts! 🤣😂 Does this not sound like the best holiday EVER?! 🎄💕
I struggled to fit the whole tree in haha but here is our Christmas tree - I love it!! #WinterReadathon #WinterReadathonDailyChallenge
@Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES @DieAReader
I am back at my parents for the next few weeks to celebrate the Christmas period with my family, and I plan to have a great time reading!!
Getting sick in December really threw me off on the reading front (boooo), but I am getting back on it and starting by finishing Fellowship🥰
Can anyone recommend any good readathons going on right now that I could join in with?😊
Happy Sunday everyone and happy birthday weekend to my Mum🥰
I've even got this playing as I read now😂 For real though, this is some gorgeous music
A very funny little section of fellowship - Bilbo the sasspot, we love to see it😂
The sentence continuing onto the next page reads, 'Lobelia knew that quite well. When she arrived later in the day, she took the point at once, but she also took the spoons'🥄
I'm pretty sure I've read the lotr before...but it was so long ago & I've seen the films so many times that I'm not fully sure what I've read & what I've just watched😂 I've been meaning to 'reread' properly for years, so I've bought this bloody GORGEOUS copy of fellowship! I'm really going to take my time with it this month😊
I first read this book when I was 13… so it‘s been almost 20 years 😅 definitely got more out of it this time!! A must MUST read!
Or if you haven‘t visited, a place you want to go to eventually?
New Zealand, Aotearoa, my beloved. The movies were probably 98% the reason I visited. And I want to go back so bad! 💚💚💚
#SundayFunday Have a beautiful day and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts.

The long journey from Rivendell into the empty lands of Eregion had been hard on the hobbits, & Gandalf looked upon them with concern.
"Aragorn, I fear we may have overtaxed the Shirefolk by walking them into this wilderness."
At that moment, Boromir cried, "Look ahead! It's the last outpost of the Gondorian Gelato Guild!"
Weakly, Merry stretched out his hand; "Double scoop mint choc chip, please".
"What?" said Pippin disappointedly, "No flakes?"
September 22 is the birthday of both Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. So happy hobbit day to those who celebrate. Hoping you have lots of extra meals/snacks, time for a walk, and a cozy moment to curl up with a book. 🍁 🍂 🍃
Tfw you realize your only copy of LOTR isn't actually readable anymore and you panic buy another copy of the book in 3 paperback volumes 🤣🤣

I totally forgot to do this yesterday. 🤦♀️
Just starting this. I‘m working a ton extra right now as we are beginning the school year, and it has been such a restful break. I‘m really enjoying the meandering and tangents that drove me off as a tween. The playful but kind of withdrawn tone reminds me of Jane Austen (also Bilbo‘s insult gifts 😆), and I can see why people reread these often. I‘m already looking forward to coming back and having different details jump out on the next reading.
