Henry sat in his favorite chair, tipped #perilously back on two legs against the wall. He was looking at the Black, who was moving restlessly in his stall.

1. Sometimes I really don‘t like to read popular books simply because they‘re popular. Then I get mad at myself years later, after I do read them and love them, and think to myself, “Damn, I really missed out on some great book talks!”
2. Sweet AND salty!! Chewy over crunchy too!
3. Robert and Rachael, Harold and Marjorie
4. The Black Stallion (and the books, of course)
5. Edinburgh, Scotland!! I want to go back and stay forever!

nu-bibliophile 1. I do the same thing especially if there's too much hype about the book. 7mo
PatienceFortitude Mmmm Edinburgh! That‘s my pick also 7mo

1. The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley followed very closely by the Xanth Series by Piers Anthony. 2. Just one? Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, Mudbound by Hillary Jordan, American Gods by Neil Gaiman (a rereading), Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman 3. Mrs. Reed in Jane Eyre 🤬 4. A Confederacy of Dunces (I‘m sorry! Don‘t hate me!) 5. @k.reads because she tagged me for the Friyay but I‘d already done it. Didn‘t want to let her down!! #Tuesdaytidbits

Bostonmomx2 I caught just a few minutes of The Black Stallion movie on TV recently. I had forgotten how good it was. My sister was the horse freak tho in our family so she had all the books as a kid. 2y

#setonanisland As a child I was in love with horses. This story, along with the film based on it were two of my favorites growing up. A portion of it is set on a desert island, where a shipwreck leaves Alec Ramsay stranded with the wild stallion that saved his life.

#SeasonsReadings2016 Set on an Island - When I was young, I absolutely devoured any and all books I could get my hands on that involved horses. One of my favorite series was The Black Stallion by Walter Farley. Part of the first book takes place on an island when the main character, Alec, is stranded there with this iconic horse. I love this part of the Francis Ford Coppola film. #horses @RealLifeReading

bookwrm526 I read this entire series over and over and over! 3y
Ellsbeth @bookwrm526 I did too! It was great. 🐎 3y
Cayuse Formative. Should have a warning label: reading this under age 12 is likely to make you a horse nut for the rest of your life. 2y

Sadly I'm not much of a fan of the classics (but I have more recently picked up some to try reading that I read years ago). This was one of my absolute favorite books (and series) as a young girl. I used to joke around and say that I didn't have a dream car, but I did have a dream horse... A solid black Arabian stallion (just like the Black). #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge #classicbooks @RealLifeReading

MeganAnn Great choice! I loved this series as a child also!! 3y

Discovered this book in 5th grade and got most of my friends to read the series too. It struck me at the time as unusual in how early it introduced the main character. It was a style I imitated in young writings. Posting here for #FunFridayPhoto challenge. @Liberty

samwinchester90 And for those wondering ... Yes it counts as a sports book because it involves horse racing. 3y

My #funphotofriday of my first "adult" book isn't so fun but a strong memory. I was ten and my friend who was thirteen loaned me a Christian fiction book, I forget the name, it was a story about a girl who was raped. I'll never forget my discomfort. Nor will I forget when her sixteen year old brother saw me reading it. He said "Aren't you a little too young to be reading that?" I answered "Yes." He gave me his copy of the Black Stallion to read.

SusanInTiburon Great post! Sounds like a real act of kindness. 3y
Jess_Read_This @SusanInTiburon It really was! He used to make my life miserable with teasing. He was always in some sort of trouble. I think that's why this memory is so strong for me, because he behaved in a way that was so unlike him. I think I was also surprised to learn he had read anything! 3y
