A horrific and comically satiric indictment on conservative attacks on women's liberation, this novella, written in 1972, shows how astounding the “tradwife“ idea still is today--when a woman is on the cusp of (hopefully) becoming our first female president. As much as some want to return to the 1950s and put females back in the kitchen, Levin shows how truly tragic that return would be for us women. Indeed, “we will not go back!“ #election24

A creepy read from a while back. Read to find out what is happening with the wives in Stepford. Thanks, Mr. Levin! 🎃

-Great narration…she (January LaVoy) is a favorite.
-A quick listen, you can finish it all in one day, easily.
-Creepy AF atmosphere despite basically knowing how it would end.

-non-ending for an ending.
Low pick. The pacing is a bit weird and the writing didn‘t wow me. Also, its cultural relevance has diminished the twist (I‘ve not seen the films and I still knew what was going on). Nonetheless, I felt it still had thematic potency, reflecting the lengths that some white, cis-het men in particular will go to in order to gain or maintain power. I found it quite bleak in that respect, particularly with the way it ended. A cautionary tale for sure.
Hello Littens. I apologize for not getting this out sooner. But here is the #NWC book for July & August. Are you planning on reading it? Scribd does have it as an ebook if you are interested.
P.S. What have u all been up to lately?

I had only heard of Rosemary‘s Baby by Ira Levin until I stumbled upon the #StepfordSummerParty. Here I am, four years late. Nevertheless, I plan to read the discussion thread after I‘m done reading.
The cover is giving me the creeps. 👁👁

These are the readings that I remember the most, they all left me something in the inside ❤
1. The tagged book ❤❤

As yesterday I worked more than expected, I finished The Stepford Wifes only now... I hope it will count for the #20in4 #readathon by @Andrew65
It's a beautiful book and my mind just blowns up 😱
So different from the 2004 movie with Nicole Kidman... specially for the ending! I can't get over it 😂
It's hard to find time to read when there is just so much to do around the house.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.
Day 11th

Hanging out with Mom on her day off. Going to read this and then watch the movie. Supposed to be 60 F today, super great weather for this time of year. Happy Monday everyone!
Thank you so very much for this awesome #BookCupidSwap package. I love it all. I just had to shove another pillow in to the case so I could use it right away. 😂
This movie always got me and I've always wanted to read the book. Quick and disturbing in a way that hits home, even in today's society.

Final #BookSpinBingo card for October. Made a bingo at the last minute 😂 made progress with a few others on here too but didn‘t quite finish. Very good reading month for me.
The writing felt a little choppy at times, although this may have been intentional. Levin captures so much normalcy in Joanna‘s marriage and contrasts that well with casual abnormalities that are easy to shrug off at first. Although it‘s a short book, Levin took his time crafting the setup, paving an intriguing path toward an eerie conclusion.
There is something strange and eerie about the town‘s beautifully manicured lawns and perfectly groomed wives.

Author Ira Levin was shocked when this thriller became a feminist meme, still popular today after almost 50 years. He got the idea after reading about my fave Disneyland attraction-Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. How cool is that! The writing is crisp & subtle, making it so eerie as the plot sneaks up behind you. I‘ve ordered both movies to rewatch & compare.
Thx to @PurpleyPumpkin for this great Halloween read. 🤗

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely brilliant, Levin really ramps up the tension and dread in this comically dark novella. We follow Joanna and her family after their recent move to Stepford; she struggles to make friends with the beautiful, busy woman of the town “so much to do in the home”. Joanna and her new friends, other recent arrivals in Stepford, vow never to be like the hausfraus, but then her friends begin to change...
I have so many thoughts about this book. I feel like it doesn‘t fit the “what does it mean to be human” theme that I‘ve been doing lately because it only focuses on the transhuman women briefly. We don‘t get to hear from those women at all. At the same time that is kind of what makes this book so scary. It suggests that those women have no stories to tell.
I don't say this often, but I liked the movie better 🎬

Well... this might be my new favourite book. The tension was gripping, and that insidious ending!! Though written in the 70s, the book's strong roots to the women's lib movement and unapologetic criticism of the patriarchy make it all the more relevant in today's landscape. A quick read that packs a punch. This will stay with me for a while!
A leisurely tea & books morning before my busy work day kicks off 😌
I was beginning to think this book didn't have chapters but I hit Two at 54% 🤔
Loved this book! I‘d seen the film and when I came across the book at the book barn I snatched it up! I read it in a couple of hours. I‘ve read a few books by Ira Levin now and enjoyed then all. #iralevin #bookflatlay
Loved this movie, finally found a copy of the book. So far the writing is not beautiful but the story moves quickly.
I found some delicacies that would have come in handy for our #stepfordsummerparty

I watched The Stepford Wives, always an interesting watch.

This was such a good story and a fairly quick read. I read this in two sittings. Like Rosemary‘s Baby, this book was gripping and suspenseful, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Definitely recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went to the library just to pick up the tagged book 🤷
I wanted to read this because I genuinely enjoy the movie but it kind of sucks. I think it's the writing style. The themes aren't in the background like you would expect, it's actual dialogue which makes the characters seem SUPER judgemental about everything around them.
This book is creepy, but in such a subtle way. I really enjoyed the main character‘s stance on women‘s rights and how smart she was. Every woman being the same was really creepy. I wish I had not read the literary analysis (which looked like a little introduction) before I read the book. I think that would have made the reading more enjoyable.
